Mets

Mets struggles v. lefties this year:

Granderson .121, Murphy .185, Plawecki .152, Mabrey .185, Campbell .091 (.333 OBP, though), Cuddyer .226 (.324 OBP, though), Duda .302 (but only .180 and 2 of 30 homers last year), Flores .286, Lagares .286, and Tejada .256.

Zobrist is .297 this year v. lefties with a .388 OBP and .286 and .365 for his career.

Upton is .177 this year v. lefties with a .227 OBP but is .276 and .384 w/ much more power for career.

Conforto is a Lefty bat that presumably smashes righties and does okay against lefties.

David Wright hits .331 with a .434 OBP and much more power v. lefties over his career. Man doe we miss that.

Went to game tonite. Line up looked like Mets thru in the towel vs Kershaw with the fourth and fifth hitters batting .167 and .177 respectively. What a joke!

Terry Collins admitted he made a mistake not bringing in Familia. I give him a lot of credit for saying that but that is a horrible mistake.

I like Terry. He tries to be as upfront and straightforward as possible. Plus look at the roster he's given, nothing can really be his fault. Unless the obvious, which he again addressed and was upfront about today in re: Familia. You can tell by just looking at him that he feels the heat right now, and he has the urgency, if only some of these god damn "major leaguers" would step up and reciprocate.

Our clean up guy is batting .236, Nats' clean up today batting .321... with 0 offense we remain in the hunt, we need at least 2 bats, but one should make us more competitive.

He's cost us like ten games by sending starting pitchers into innings without the possibility to let them finish due to tight pitch counts. If you are giving a guy 7 pitches to work with, just sit him down and let a reliever get the benefit of starting with the bases empty.

I do find kid of funny that you were already critical of Lain before he was employed at SJU for a month, but you give TC a full get out f jail free card. Do you have to go to school to be a contrarian, or is it more of a hobby?

Huh? When did I criticize Lavin? If I ever did, it was out of anger or frustration at that current moment. I was a Lavin supporter. Would have liked to see him stay. I am also a Mullin supporter as I want the team to win. I want to go to games at the Garden and enjoy it, and win.

Comparing this to professional baseball? 1. They're paid in baseball? NY is the biggest market and we have a small market lineup. Terry has a minor league roster that he has to turn into a major league lineup day in and day out, combined with the fact along with these scrubs, if you would (probably too harsh), the real "major leaguers" have been atrocious all year, particularly on offense. Terry isn't perfect, but for what he has, he's done an okay job.

Still confused a lot by what you said though. I also, appreciate your attention in every thread, at least someone reads my posts. Maybe we can grab a beer for a game next season or something.

PS- Where's Conforto? Could use him asap, doesn't sound like it's happening tomorrow.

He's coming this weekend. I guarantee it. There was NO WAY they were bringing him up to face Kershaw and Greinke for his first two games and there is no use bringing up a kid just to sit him. I'm telling you this kid will be our best hitter for average day one. I know how badly the Mets wanted to delay his debut until late April of 2016 for financial reasons, but they have no choice right now.

We got some good news on Wright starting baseball activities in New York early next week. If he can come back even at 80%, we are a different team.

Why the hell is TC still batting Granderson against lefties when he has a .121 average against them? It's almost August and he hasn't found a better option? Sandy absolutely has to acquire some reserve that can hit a freaking lefty even if he can't do anything else. The Mets v. a lefty is essentially an automatic loss at this point.

Gotta make some noise now in free agency. I think Zobrist, Conforto, and a relatively healthy Wright makes the Mets a very dangerous playoff team.

Why wouldn't they bring him up to face Kershaw and Greinke? It's not ideal for him to face those two in his first two games, but what can ya do? Is he going to sit every time the Mets face great pitching? What about the last series of the season against the Nats? What if they are facing Scherzer, Gio, and Strasburg in that series? Will he sit again?

If he is as good as advertised, it really shouldn't matter who he faces.

David Wright he will be an upgrade if and when he comes back, but I don't see him making that big of a difference. He isn't the player that he once was, and as soon as the Mets realize that, the better off they will be.

As far as better options, their financial situation doesn't really allow them to get better options. Granderson is making $16M this year. It shouldn't matter about money, and it should be all about winning, but it's incredibly hard to bench someone making $16M/year. So you have to play him.

The real problem is them having $46M wrapped up in 3 players (Granderson, Wright, and Colon), and getting average at best production from those players. And that's not a Terry Collins problem.

They don't want to start Conforto's clock for arbitration, so I predict you don't see him until September. Sending Cuddyer to a witch doctor now and playing a man short just to avoid bringing him up. I also predict that Met lack of hitting puts them under 500 at deadline which will allow the Mets to go the other way and see if they can trade off pieces like Murphy, Granderson Colon and Niese. I predict SELLERS at deadline.

I would be happy if Jim Dolan bought the Mets at this point. How sad is that?

Although I appreciate Marillac's boundless enthusiasm (he should work for Scott Boras selling players high), I think your analysis is more on target than his.

I have been a huge Mets fan since 1962.
The lineup they put on the field every day is downright embarrassing
If they don't make a significant move to try to make the playoffs, I'm done
It's not like they are perennial playoff contenders
They have to take the shot when they have the opportunity to do so
If you have to "rent" a Zobrist, etc for the home stretch, so be it
At least, please show your fans that you're in it to win it

For those interested in helping the Mets.....a GoFundMe page has been created by a guy named Etan Bednarsh with the title "Let's get the Mets a Hitter"

http://www.gofundme.com/zxxtpg

That is funny because it is true

Here's the weird part....what is this guy going to do with the money? I'm pretty sure that the public can't just add money to a team's payroll.

Start a Pyramid scheme with it. Wilpon's will participate

Here's me playing the devils advocate again......what if this doesnt work out? Is he up for the remainder of the season? Do you send him back down if he struggles? Jumping from Double-A to the majors is a big step for anyone, regardless of how talented you may be.

Are you worried he might hit 175 like Mayberry, Niewenhuis or Campbell? He can't be worse

Montero mentioned as one of two minor league pitchers for the Braves players Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson, both hitting about a hundred points higher than our Campbell/Kirk/Mayberry types.

Offense is so terrible, that anything was an upgrade, this included. Uribe has solid numbers. Hope Sandy isn't done yet. Now that bench void is filled, let's get a prize.

We gave up Gant and another young arm. That's okay with me.

Niese got bombed today. Should have sold high.

Terry should not have put him out there with his wife about to give birth. That's a no brainer no matter what the player says. I mean c'mon now.

I don't think that these two aging veterans are the answer
Better than what we have but certainly not what I was hoping for
