Mets

No sense in making a trade. The Mets probably aren't making the post-season anyway.
Most projection systems have them as a 20% odds to make the post season.

They're more than 1 player away from contending. Don't mortgage the farm now Sandy

How could say so matter-of-factly that the Mets aren't going to be making the playoffs? They are two games back of the wildcard with their best offensive player missing nearly the entire season thus far, d'Arnaud and Murphy out for two long stretches each, and the majority of the bullpen out and now returning. They were in first place two weeks ago. Are you looking at the same standings I am? Are you watching these young pitchers?

For the life of me, I can't understand why Mets fans are so damn negative this year. We haven't been in a position to possibly make the playoffs in nearly a decade. They just need to get healthy.

I strongly disagree they are more than one player away. They need one big bat...that's it.

Edit: They are also only one win back of the Nationals who have spun out recently due to injuries. Get the bullpen, Matz, d'Arnaud, and Wright back healthy and we'll complete. We also have the #14 prospect in baseball tearing the cover off the ball in AA looking primed and ready for a late call-up if someone falters.

Matz out with injury now. ughhhhh

Supposedly very minor and if it was a big playoff game, they'd let him pitch through it. The good news is that it comes right before the break. Can't take any chances with these young arms.

Dark Knight returns! Who says Mets need a bat? Just move the pitchers up in the batting order! :)

how is familia not in the allstar game??????

The kid is lights out. What a great feeling to have a closer like him for years to come. If you look at the stats, though, he's probably right on the fence. There are some impressive closers this year.

Desco, one game out of the wild card and the bullpen troops are waiting by the ropes to be tagged in! Chicago has a ton of games against Pittsburgh and St. Louis left and a very young roster that has been very fortunate with injuries thus far.

apparently there are like two or three closers out there with only one blown save each, and Familia has two. just a bit stocked at that position is all. happy to have him, he has been a pleasure to watch.

and how about Kirk and his three homers right now? maybe he read some of these posts for inspiration? :)

this team's pitching gives them a chance for playoffs, but it will be quite the hill. that said, at least they showed some heart out West rather than disintegrating as they have in recent years on similar july trips.

peace

What would you giv up to rent Justin Upton for three months?
And would he make a difference anyway?

Well Sandy finally listened to all of the people clamoring for him to add a bat. Kirk Niuwenheuis is being promoted. Now in tandem with Campbell we will have the worst righty and lefty batters in baseball history coming off our bench. AWESOME!

Captain Kirk had three homers today. First time in Mets history that happened at home.
We have to learn to be more patient. The dude had 34 at bats earlier in the year and everyone wanted him traded instantly because he had a bad slump. The Mets were something like 18-3 in games he started last year. I think he's a pretty solid reserve...patient at the plate, good glove, good speed, and a little pop.

62% of his hits last year were for extra bases, he was 4/4 in steals, and he had a .346 OBP.

From the futures game in Cincy:

Best All-Around Performance: Michael Conforto, of, Mets

Conforto’s first and likely only Futures Game went about as well as he could have hoped. In BP, Conforto showed a good setup with an easy, fluid swing from the left side and plus power, putting several balls into the seats between center and right field. It’s easy to see why Conforto, 22, has hit .295/.369/.468 between high Class A and Double-A this season, with a mature hitting approach that carried over into the game. He finished 2-for-2.

In Conforto’s first plate appearance, Marlins lefthander Jarlin Garcia threw a 93-mph fastball up on the inner half. He kept his hands short and quick to the ball, driving the ball back up the middle for a single. Conforto’s next time up, Mariners righthander Edwin Diaz pitched aggressively and got ahead of him 1-2, but Conforto worked his way back to a full count before pulling a 92-mph fastball to right field for another single.

Conforto’s value is driven by what he does at the plate, but today he showed he’s not strictly one-dimensional. In the third inning, Braves shortstop Ozzie Albies pulled a single to left field. With Mariners shortstop Ketel Marte trying to score from second base on the play, Conforto fired a perfect strike to the plate, showing a strong, accurate arm to end the inning. That kind of arm could play in left or right field (although he admitted after the game that that was one of his best throws) but obviously what’s most important here is the bat, which should soon be plugged into the middle of the Mets lineup.

Depends on how the team comes out of the gate after the break IMO.

shaving the ridiculous beard helped his balance

I'm laying 4-1 that a press release is sent out today with any combination of the words "DeGrom" "elbow" "tenderness" and "mri tomorrow."

I've never seen him look better than he did last night, and that's saying something. Those pitches were unhittable.

I am the proud co-owner of www.degrominant.com

That purchase is looking better by the day :)
