Plenty of transactions to come but here is where we stand payroll wise as of 12/18.
Lots of room considering our payroll was $314M last season and the bulk of the difference was going to Scherzer and Verlander to NOT pitch for us.

It’s crazy. Stearns is a monster and he crushed it last year with smaller signings. Iglesias didn’t even play in the majors in 2023 and he hit .337 for us playing stellar defense. That should buy him ton of leniency.I love how fans go nuts when we announce some small signing. Do fans not think Stearns is not trying to sign a couple good pitchers? There hasn’t been much movement which tells me that the players/agents are probably asking for crazy numbers. The Severino signing kind of screwed up the market.
Still think we're definitely adding one frontline starter, maybe two. I think this is an excellent depth signing.
I think his role would be as a long reliever to start.Don’t love his rest splits, but I trust our pitching lab and Stearns.
Next year's first base market is Vlad Guerrero Jr and Munteka Murakami, both guys who are 5-6 years younger than Pete.Christian Walker signed the Astros for 3 heads and 60 mill.
That contract must be sobering for Pete and Boras.
This might be greedy, but what about both Pete and Vlad? We have the prospect capital to get Vlad as a rental. Maybe offer Pete a team friendly deal with a player-opt out after year one. Marte and his 20 million come off the books after 2025. Maybe someone would take Marte if we paid $12-13 mill.Next year's first base market is Vlad Guerrero Jr and Munteka Murakami, both guys who are 5-6 years younger than Pete.
Not sure why big market teams will want to lock themselves up when you get get prime years out of, probably better players
To me, I don't want to trade for Vlad. I'd rather try to sign Pete to a short-term deal. 3/90 or 4/110 with player opt-outs. I don't want him for more than four years. This might be greedy, but what about both Pete and Vlad? We have the prospect capital to get Vlad as a rental. That's a lot of righty bats, but Vlad has better splits against RHP.

Then next off-season, let Cohen's next fishing expedition be for Vlad. Vlad can play 3B, Vientos to DH, Alonso at 1B (or DH).
I agree Pete is reaching Mets top 10, but only if he stays. To me, I don't want to trade for Vlad. I'd rather try to sign Pete to a short-term deal. 3/90 or 4/110 with player opt-outs. I don't want him for more than four years.
