Mets Hot Stove talk--2024-25

No Brainer....Except Boras is his agent. He'll sign March 1st somewhere and his season will be shot.

I’m starting to get more and more into trading for Vlad Jr.
Vlad Jr. would be great but it would be sacrificing multiple assets for a one year rental. He’s projected to get in the $500m dollar range next offseason. No guarantees that Stearns or Cohen are committing that for him. Just like Soto there will be multiple teams in on Guerrero.

Valid points.

Two things have me questioning that stance lately. (1) What if a rival getshim this year? (2) If we feel we can sign him, then 1B, RF, SS, and 3B are blocked for years…so why not center a trade on Clifford and Mauricio?

IF we can sign him.

I doubt he’s signing with anyone. Just like Soto he’s going to maximize his value. Is Cohen going $500m or whatever? They (Stearns/Cohen) don’t seem to value 1B guys like that. Maybe because he’s younger 26?

All this may be moot. Toronto (so far) has said he’s not available….yet. Sooo…

All true. I am hesitant to give up any arms in that deal and Toronto would likely want one back. We see 5th starters are going for like 12 mill a year now and #3 starters upwards of 18 mill. There is no reason we can't fill those rotation spots in house. Sproat is untouchable to me and I do like Tidwell in spite of his AAA struggles.

Best play is probably Alonso with an opt out after year 1. That gives us a year to evaluate Clifford and some of the other prospects/young big leaguers and leaves us in play for Vlad Jr. if Alonso does opt out.

I have read the Mets are linked to Cease and Tanner Scott. Plus, other relievers. Also, OF Luis Robert, who has an injury history. High risk, high reward.

Memo to Alonso: the Mets have you over hot coals, not the other way around. You will never get an offer as good as the original extension from the Mets that you turned down.

If I was Cohen, I would be livid reading that Boras is giving me an ultimatum. I think Boras may have Jordan Montgomery-ied Alonso out of a lot of money.

Scott would be a sign we are all in this year. He's been unreal in the playoffs and made some of the Dodgers lefty bats look silly. Having a lefty closer/set up man like that would be big time. We've been lacking late inning lefties for most of the last decade +.

I do think we get one more starter. I think Stearns and several others are waiting for Sasaki sweepstakes to close. If the Dodgers land him then we need to be aggressive adding a frontline guy.
