Mets 2024 Season

If we come up short in this wild card race, that’ll be one of the main losses I remember.

That and the loss in the rubber match against the A’s stick out as the two awful losses down the stretch here that shouldn’t have happened
The Mets have lost these types of games all season, not sure how you can pick and choose what ones to remember or attach special significance to; but that’s just me. The players play, and I will be the first one to say that, but Mendoza and team have just not gotten any of 12-15 relievers to get the job done. One pitches well on a given day and the next one fails, then they play reverse good cop/bad cop. Walks have absolutely killed them all year long, not to mention the inordinate amount of late game home runs.

Today was our first time since the all star break where we lost a game when leading going into the 8th inning. The A's game I mentioned was the only game post-ASB we lost after having a 4+ run lead (at home to a bad team as well).

I also referenced I was talking about losses "down the stretch" of the season here. Since the all star break, today, that A's game, and the game in LA that Brazoban blew to the angels are easily the 3 losses that stick out in my mind of games that slipped through our fingers.

There’s probably a dozen games we should’ve won. I still go back to Edwin Diaz as being an underrated, major issue this year. His slump in May destroyed us and dug the whole to begin with. Then when we start to gain momentum, he gets suspended in June and short hands a bullpen that ends up costing us a couple games we could’ve won.

He’s also awful in non-save situations, so it does limit his usage.

Closers are so fluky year to year. Him being the highest paid of all time and letting us down is getting tiresome.

I get it, but games given away early in the season mean as much as later ones. And blowing games don’t count more if they are given away in the 8th inning as opposed to the 5th. Dumb baseball is dumb baseball. You look at it as a sprint, me a marathon.
Think of how the Johnnie’s finished so strong but all those games blown early defined their season.

I hear you, these late season losses just stick with me more because earlier in the season we were playing so poorly that playoffs didn't even seem like something realistic.

Since June, we've been a solid baseball team (44-30), but just not quite good enough

Now we go into the desert to play arguably the hottest team in baseball. At least we will probably have our 3 best starters going in these games

Just different ways of looking at the same thing; no real difference of opinion between us. I am just very frustrated at the overall ineptness of the pitching staff. Certainly there are exceptions at times, but the inability or unwillingness to challenge hitters leads to too many walks, high pitch counts for starters, translating into high reliance on a terrible bullpen, and “get it over” pitches leading to too many home runs, especially late in games. IMO, this team, minus the bullpen primarily, is much better than their record, taking the entire season in account.
Finally, while I will continue to root like hell, deep down I don’t think this team has a ghost of a chance of making the playoffs, regardless of the numbers. No revelation there, and I certainly hope to eat crow.

Maybe the day off helped wake the team bats up--great effort all around but they get us up one day and down the next
Like San Diego by winning the 1st game of that series they are in good position to take the Series or better. Usually where we come up short.

By the way, take one of the next two they win the season series with the DBs.

Our playoff odds are free falling, but still holding out a very small glimmer of hope the Braves struggle in Philly this weekend.

Let's win this series against Arizona, sweep the White Sox and see where we stand come Tuesday. Just have to control what we can control and hope the Braves relax a bit

Sorry guys this one was on me. I woke up just in time to catch the 8th inning and listen to Diaz blowing the game. We can’t use him as a closer anymore.

And………up 5-4 in the 8th, the Mets bullpen, yes, you guessed it, walks the bases loaded and then gives up a grannie. Two of the walks and the homer given up by Diaz after coming in with 2 outs and a runner on first. No words left to describe how inept this bullpen is; another one to put in the “what if” column this winter.
Just to rub a little salt in the wound, this coming after they came back from a 4-0 deficit to take the lead.

This is what the Mets have done for 35 straight years now…it’s in their DNA. It’s what makes the highs so high, because the lows are so low. I can’t watch this movie anymore, I know how it always ends.
