Mets 2024 Season

Mets get 6 in the top of the 10th, Melendez brings in another guy no one ever heard of and leaves him in until the Nats get 3 back, two out but are bringing the tying run to the plate.

All winter I was told what a wonderkind our new GM Stearns is. Well, now is the time to prove it. He chased multiple bullpen pieces at the “discount” rack. Too many names to mention but most of them have flat out sucked. The offense on this team has really taken off with the emergence of Vientos and Alvarez and the impact of JDM. (who frankly should have been signed much earlier)

Yes they have suffered an unfortunate injury to Raley and Smith (was he really good anyway?) and are missing Diaz but where is the depth in the organization? Bottom line is this team has no chance with this bullpen. None. We escaped a crushing defeat last night. I got 2007 and 2008 vibes last night. Blown multiple run leads leading to losses devastate a team. Last night we escaped. Stearns can’t let that happen.

I'm not even sure if this counts for or against Stearns but Yohan Ramirez and Michael Tonkin are now pitching great for LA and NY. Should've been more patient with them.

Organizational depth has been a huge problem with this franchise for a decade. Don't think its fair to expect him to figure it out all in one off-season.

Bringing in multiple guys who can’t even get the ball over the plate (frankly, an assumption on my part because I don’t follow roster formulation at all, I watch the games) does not bode well IMO for his evaluation skills but we shall see, certainly too small a sample size.

We don’t develop relievers in the minors. It’s crazy. We hold on to guys with two pitches as starters way too long.

I really don’t get that. We used to convert some electric arms like Familia and Mejia earlier.

I'm obviously not saying this to disagree. I think the lack of pitching development the last ten years is the reason why the team's been so up and down.

But in the short-term, we can look forward to:
Bryce Montes de Oca. He is finally healthy and in AAA. He was expected to be a major part of the bullpen last year, and will be up soon enough. He throws 102...

Eric Orze. He has an incredible story of battling back from cancer. Apparently team is high on him.

It's crazy to think we could've lost Nunez from the Rule 5 draft but his injury made him come back to us. Guy looks like a stud.

I also think the Mets should convert MeGill back to a reliever. It was a success story to make him a big league starter. But, unless he can harness his stuff consistently in Syracuse, the Mets need him to take on a Seth Lugo role with this team for years to come & give us 2 innings out of the pen.

Future also bright

I don’t see it with Gilbert. Could be a decent grind it out type, but i don’t see a high ceiling.

Sproat has been unreal this year. Tidwell should be ranked IMO. I like that kid.

Christian Scott to #39 is meteoric rise…and so late. I don’t think he was on any top 100’s before. I like his mental makeup on the mound.

Jett and Alvarez were the two that got me really excited. Bummer to see Jett out for the season.

This list also leaves out Mauricio due to the injury. He’s a top 25 prospect.

I didn't want to spam the board, but Baseball America agrees with you.

The Gilbert injury is also too bad. I was too young to watch him play, but a lot of people compare him to Lenny Dysktra. I'd take that in a heartbeat. Obviously he needs to do it in the majors first, but him + Alvarez's mojo can really represent a new culture for the Mets in years to come.
