Mets 2024 Season

I don’t think Alonso can be the best player. I would like him back, though. You have to find a way to build in offense when he’s off. Spot and his OBP is that guy.
Your earlier post hit a nerve and maybe it’s Boras’ fault but if this was tackled when it should have been tackled this discussion isn’t happening now.

I guess I'll be the one that points out that we're up 11-1 against the Cubs today. This team is really grooving. I'm really surprised we're able to put together this long of a stretch of dominant baseball. But here we are.

WAR is not a perfect statistic but since Lindor arrived in 2021 he has 16.7 WAR going into today. Nimmo has 14 WAR and Alonso has 13.2 WAR. They have different skills but are similar players. I would make a fair offer to Alonso and it's up to him if he wants to take it. Dont think many teams will be willing to pay more for him.

Anyway we scored 10 runs in 3 innings off the guy with the third lowest ERA in baseball so things are good today at least.

It scares me to think what he's looking for if they weren't even close to that offering last year.

If that was really offered he should have jumped at that.

Get rid of everybody 😂

@dk423 summed it up much better than I did. Stats are stats. My eyes tell me otherwise. I’m not giving a max contract to a guy who’s about to be 30 who’s never had a big hit that I could remember. That’s me though, just my opinion.

This franchise needs winning ballplayers. They don’t have many of them right now. You could plug a bunch of guys at a position like 1st. Vientos for example. The Mets actually have prospects right now. You have an owner willing to spend, he’s shown it already. You have Nimmo and Lindor, there’s nothing you can do about that. You need pitching, plain and simple, and if you can get Soto, get Soto.

The thing you’re missing, re-reading your post is that “no one is saying he’s the best player in the league.” Well, he damn sure is gonna expect to be paid like he is.
Hey, Guiness, while I got you here have you ever been to the Guinness Brewery in Belfast? I am heading there with my wife (Ireland/Scotland). If you have any tips? To take the Tour I got to book it early.

I’ve personally never been. I’ve been to Ireland once (Letterkenny/Belfast) and it’s beautiful there, albeit it was back in ‘07.
I’d say do it…how can it be bad? lol
Went to the Crown Saloon while we were there, what an experience and what a pub. Had my first taste of Redbreast 15 in there. Would love to go back.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, the brewery tour is suppose to be awesome. I literally have to book like a month early or something. Redbreast 15? That something we can get here? I’ll have to track it down when we go over.

Redbreast 15 isn’t super easy to get but it’s findable. I would guess Stew Leonard’s in Farmingdale is always a good place to look. It’s more than $100 a bottle which for Irish whiskey is not cheap but it is smoooooth.

I honestly don’t think it’s that far off. 180-190.

Olson signed his contract before he ever had 40 homers and only had over 91 RBI once…plus has some really ugly batting averages. He hit .195 in 60 games during the Covid seasons. But he was 28 and Alonso will be 30 next season. Alonso has some insane homer and RBI years. 131, 120, and 118 RBI seasons is nuts.

Alsonso has been remarkably durable and power is the last thing to go for older players so you’d think he could play well 7-8 more years.

What are the best stats to tell if a player is clutch? I feel like his HRs are either when we are up or down big, but I could be totally wrong. Is there a stat to measure how clutch he has actually been? Stats are nice, but only wins matter.

JDM, Vientos and Alvarez have been the keys to moving this team in a positive direction. A team that was painful to watch is now fun to watch. The lineup went from barren to our 7 hitter hitting 451 ft HRs. Pitching will limit the ceiling but at least they are interesting.

JD Martinez is still JD Martinez somehow. I would have signed up for 85% of who he was in a heartbeat too.

Marte is probably 90% of who he was before last year and I’ll take that all day.

To think the Mets dragged their feet to sign JD Martinez. Yes, they got a great financial deal, but that month and the wins that may have cost might lose them a playoff spot. Not our money but…it was such an obvious need (DH) with a perfect fit available.

Remember this is a team that kept rolling out Voglebach when they could have been giving at bats to Vientos to see what we had or didn’t have. They were basically telling us Vientos couldn’t play but I digress…
