Mets 2024 Season

I haven't looked at MLB stats much since the Mets fell apart. I glance at them today and saw Seth Lugo was having an amazing season as a starter. Good for him.

Just the worst bullpen I have ever seen. There probably have been worse but I can’t think of any. Just changing a total collapse to a poor showing in May, early June and they would be one 7-10 day run from getting over .500.

No worries! Edwin Diaz will be off the IL soon enough and then uh the bullpen will uh be uh, hmmm…

I saw an article in Newsday about retired numbers for each team. I was surprised that Willie Mays' #24 was retired by the Mets. He played 2 seasons for the Mets and batted 0.200 with 14 HRs and 44 RBIs. Must have been the result of a WM Day at Shea to get fans to come to the game.

What’s more surprising. That or a newsday subscriber :)

I was surprised when I first heard about it as well. Here’s the deal:

Original Met owner Joan Payson was a minority shareholder in the New York Giants baseball club, and she opposed the move to SF. After buying the Mets, she told Willie Mays that it was her plan to trade for him at some point and retire his number as a Met. Willie retired after ‘73 (I think) and Mrs. Payson died in ‘75 before this was realized. I think this was Uncle Steve’s honoring the past.

Strawberry had to leave the Muttsies. He was spiraling and he was a mess and everyone knew it. Unfortunately Rick James new it too well.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug...

I’m having FOMO I didn’t get tickets for this weekend but my kids are still a bit too small to justify the cost. I am going to subject my son to a game when we visit NY in august, but thankfully tickets are crazy cheap.
