Mets 2024 Season

Mets 11 games under .500 but feels like they are 20 something games under .500 they lose every freaking day sometimes twice a day.
I am usually the last to jump ship in my Mets group, but I got the feeling the season is over yesterday.

Alvarez going down shortened and already weak lineup too much. And Diaz being a complete disaster is too much to overcome.

No Senga has been rough too.

The good news is we have tons of attractive trade chips. Quintana, Bader, Alonso (?!), JD Martinez, etc.

You know my dad and I have serious Mets issues when we saw what happened yesterday and thought, "maybe this is the spark the team needs"...

For the record: I think we're better than our record indicates but 10 games back is far too big of a hole for them to climb out of.

In the immortal words of Bill Parcells “You are what your record says you are”. 😉😊

When does training camp start? Jets and Johnnies cannot start too soon. This is a truly cannot wait til next rear season. We can only anticipate who they will dump by the trade deadline. Alonzo? Lindor? Mitchel? Marte?

When you look at the box score and see guys (like Nimmo and Lindor) hitting .211 and think “oh they must be hot” it tells you all you need to know…never saw an entire lineup of hitters who were recently good be ALL bad

I do think this is a .500 caliber roster, but 10 games back is just too wide of a chasm. There is just a complete lack of talent compared to other top teams. We have no firepower.

We likely have to move on from McNeil...his falloff has been wild to witness. Usually those college guys play well in to their mid and late 30's.

A little walk down memory lane from this article:

The money quote:

There is no way to make a complete list of this without taking up the rest of the sports section, but a brief rundown would include: M. Donald Grant exiling Tom Seaver for pennies on the dollar, Vince Coleman’s firecrackers, Bobby Bonilla’s earplugs, Brett Saberhagen’s bleach, Grant Roberts’ weed, Francisco Rodriguez’ father-in-law, Javy Baez, Francisco Lindor and Kevin Pillar thumbs-downing the fans …

Allow me to continue the conga line of grievances:
Trading Le Grand Orange for a washed up Mickey Lolich because he was up for a pay raise
Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano
Brodie Van Wagenen
Mickey Callaway

Feel free to add your own pain points!

David Cone bullpen wrist strengthening routine.

Jeff Wilton jettisoning Francouer after Francouer told Jeff to go eff himself when Wilpon called a players meeting to chastise the team for their poor play.

Giving up on Nolan Ryan for a prematurely aged Jim Fregosi.

Giving up Amos Otis for Joe Foy.

Letting go of Jeff Kent, Kevin Mitchell (you know, the bad influence on Doc and Straw), and not re-signing Ray Knight because he wanted 2 years.

The Wilpons letting the bullpen after 2006, especially middle relief guys who were stellar.

Great gutsy win yesterday!

No need to tear it down. We're right where we need to be. It's the turning of the tide!

I hate being a Mets fan. When does Knicks summer league start?

A recent one. Not resigning Zach Wheeler so he could go to a division rival.

“Our health and performance department, our coaches all contributed and helped him parlay two good half-seasons over the last five years into $118 million.”

In 2018 he made 29 starts for the Mets with a 1.12 WHIP. In 2019 it was slightly elevated at 1.26 in 31 starts. Both years he had a WAR above 3.5. He earned the $118 million contract and the Phillies got quite a steal.

Yeah that was the quote from BVW. Absolute lunacy to say. Anyone with a pair of eyes saw his upside and that this isn't remotely surprising

Yep, I thought I would check in on the Met's thread and, just as I suspected, the cheering is all in for their record in the last ten games. Yes sir, they have a pulled and pushed and fought their way to 2-8. Love you guys for sticking with your team. Best wishes from a friendly Yankees fan.

The Mets are just the pits, 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs, 0-0 game, pitching coach comes out and they pitch around a guy batting .280 with 1 HR and 10 RBIs, walking him on 4 pitches not even close. Brings up a guy hitting .264 with 11 HRs and 34 RBIs and they give up a granny on the first pitch. Both righty hitters. Talk about overthinking and outsmarting yourself.

Choosing the kid from LI (forgettable) over Wheeler was a terrible decision…Wheeler was rising…The other guy was a .500 pitcher at best
