a fun trip to Philadelphia and gonna need more innings like the 9th from today.
Absolutely, the Alonso/Nimmo/Martinez/Marte group have to show something here down the stretch or this will not end in a playoff berth. This team, the hitting in particular, can’t keep depending on Lindor to carry them. They will not make the playoffs if some of these other guys don’t start hitting. I feel bad for Vientos, some people getting on him because he’s slumped a couple of games. A guy like him, basically a rookie, should get the luxury of a small slump every now and then. The vets have to step up.
A couple of small quibbles...And he said it to piss off M. Donald Grant, who was given such free reign by Joan Payson's daughter Linda DeRoulet that he had the audacity to give a clubhouse pep talk to the floundering Mets. The players were annoyed, and Tug burst out patronizing Grant, "Ya Gotta Believe, Mr. Grant, Ya Gotta Believe!" It of course became the rallying cry of a team that played into contention by McGraw, a healthy Jones who delivered big hits every night, a healthy Seaver (sciatic nerve limited him to 11-10). I think they were 83-78.
The trio of Seaver, Koosman, and Matlack vanquished the Big Red Machine. Harrelson took on Rose, and the mighty mites silenced a team compared to the 27 and 61 Yankees.
We came within one shitty weekend in Oakland to beating a terrific A's team.
M. Donald Grant banished Seaver in 76 instead of banning Dick Young, and for that deserves the same NY hate that O'Malley gets for heading west with Da Bums.
Thanks. Im getting to the point that being in the right decade is an accomplishment. Of course you are right.A couple of small quibbles...
Seaver had sciatica and went 11-11 in '74 - not '73... in '73 he was awesome and won 19 and the Cy Young award.
Seaver was traded in '77, not '76.
Completely agree with your take on M. Donald Grant... one of the most odious figures in Met history, he almost single-handedly turned the Mets from a model franchise into a laughingstock.
Best view in Dublin at the top of that bar at GuinessFU (photo) Filly.
Finally home from Scotland and Ireland. Man I respect Mets fans in Europe. Full day walking around then tracking Mets games that START at 12:10 in the morning. Yet I couldn’t resist. Some amazing games along the way.
Guinness do I have some pictures of the Guinness Storehouse! Jameson distillery ain’t too bad either. Wearing my Mets hat I met several Mets fans giving the thumbs up along the way. Also met two St. John’s professors while wearing my SJU sweatshirt. Good times!
