Met 2017 Season thread

The Mets are a streaky offensive team. Some days they will look like the 1961 Yankees, others like the 65-70 Michael Burke Yankees.

Their over-reliance on homers is going to bite them in the ass again this year.

Only problem is Mets didn't lose last year because of over-reliance on homers. Injuries to the pitching staff is and will be the biggest concern.

So batting dead last (.225) with runners in scoring position didn't cost us games last year?

We're actually doing much better.

Why do you correlate hitting with runners in scoring position with HR's? Mets clearly didn't hit with RISP including HR's as this is included in the .225. All that being said Mets won 87 games last year and played in the WC game. Of course you are correct we would love better AVG. with RISP(including more Hr's please) but if you don't do that YOU better hit HR's which they did.

Ahh great site for info. Thanks. +1 or you

to me the key is solidifying the 4th and 5th starter role. I was really hoping for a solid year from Gsellman

Because YOU'RE leaving out the RISP + WAR metric that Goodstein uses when determining offensive initiative correlated with plate appearances. If you take the cosign of the metric and take away the home run differential, it's pretty clear that RISP +

damn horrible loss by the rangers and then I flip back over to the mets and we lose bottom of the 9th. ughhhhhh

Thanks for ruining my late night. ;) :) Went to dinner and a play with the wife and DVRed the Ranger game and thought it was safe to check in on this thread and not find out the results and to add insult to injury the Mets lost too. Well at least my dog didn't get hit by a car...yet.

Trust me I did you a favor by not watching the ranger game. We were winning with about 18 seconds left and gave up a goal then lost in OT

Believe I've seen that movie before. :(

We lost last night because we were tired offensively but most of all due to Cabrera's error in the first inning, and also Rene Rivera's leaving 5 men on base. With the bases loaded he flew out to left field and with runners on first and third and one out he struck out against a rookie who was just brought up from the Marlins Double A team.
Cespedes should have been back at the hotel resting, he looked sick as a dog..

Terry Collins again shows why the Mets will NEVER realize their potential with him as the manager. NO feel for the game at all. deGrom in complete control but he can't pitch the 8th even though he was clearly getting stronger as the game went on. No, we have to bring in Salas because that is what the Collins' book says, then you don't have Blevins ready to face Yelich, and just mismanage the game away. Beyond frustrating to me. Mets go down in a game they had no business losing, at least not that way.

Please Fire Collins tonight

Funny, Hernandez all but called it when he saw deGrom was coming out after the seventh, a joke of a manager. Bullpen overworked, your starter dealing with 4 straight strikeouts, 9 of the last 13 batters, only 97 pitches and you TAKE HIM OUT???? Then you don't have Blevins ready to face Yelich, after you had Salas intentionally walk him to get to STANTON two nights before because you didn't like the matchup!!

Everybody else could see it coming but not dumb, blind effing Terry. He should have been fired after the game. That loss is totally on him. How long until Salas' arm falls off?

we were all yelling on our met Facebook group for Collins to pull him out before it got out of control. I swear its like Terry isn't watching the game sometimes

The shame is he is watching the game, he just doesn't have a clue. Good soldier who manages the game as Alderson tells him to BEFORE it starts.
