Met 2017 Season thread

Traded Ron Rivera too, is anybody left? And what have they gotten in return? Basically nothing.

Well, there goes any shot at the division....

How can you say that? We just called up Kevin Plawecki.
Until Matz got hurt the Mets pitching for the Arizona series lined up 4 starters-3 with era's over 6 and Gesselmen the lowest at 5.98. Not exactly a murder's row of starting pitching. (I know they have injured starters out).

Conforto down! Who's next? Flores and Cabrera just had a terrible D'BACK series BTW, Flores has to be one of the dumbest defensive players, goes to his right when he should go to his left and goes back when he should come in. He is a defensive horror with a terrible arm.. Lagaras getting playing time and showing he should probably be a defensive replacement next year not a starting center fielder. Smoker, who in my opinion, should not be on our roster next year, after all he can't get left handers out. And Reynolds is a strikeout waiting to happen. Shows just what we have in Vegas. Good riddance to both.
Unfortunately I watched the D'BACK station today and had to listen to " homer" Brenly. While his partner was talking about Reyes and Cespedes as mentors to the youngsters Brenly commented that the very next time Cespedes runs hard will be the first time.

Not true on Cespedes. One time he was running late for a tee time and he tore ass.

As bad as this season has been, I was really looking forward to seeing how Conforto would finish up the season. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Cubbies scored 39 runs in the latest series. So much for Smoker, Flexen, Harvey, Gselman, Lugo,Sewald and loser Robles. Wish Collins would start Evans so we get a look, hopefully he replaces weak hitting Reynolds.next year. How is this guy up in the majors? Don't want to see Ceccini either.

I wrote this before the last two thrashings. I thought I would share it.

The current roster is one of the worst that I have seen in the more than 40 years as a Met Fan. This includes the period between 1977 and 1983 when they failed to win 70 games for seven straight years. Our final record this season will be one of the worst in many years. I understand that there were injuries but most of those appear to be chronic and I wouldn’t count on much production next season from Harvey, Gsellman, Lugo, Matz, Wheeler and Familia. I believe that Syndegaard gets healthy and that that DeGrom will pitch well again next year. I understand that the team wanted to obtain prospects for Bruce, Granderson, Walker and Duda and that they were going to be free agents at the end of the year but it was a salary dump. The prospects we obtained are not likely to excite anyone. The players that are replacing them with the exception of Smith and Rosario will not be here next year or are role players at best. Nimmo, and Lagares are role players. Reynolds, Cecchini, Taijeron and similar characters are either good minor league players or in some cases not even good minor league players. Pitchers like Milone and Flexen are among the worst pitchers to start multiple games in the major leagues this year. I wish I didn’t see the game Adam Wilk started against the Angels. Montero, Gsellman and Harvey are not much better. Familia appears to still be hurt and relief pitchers like Seawald, Robles, and Smoker are mediocre on a kind day.

Our farm system after the promotion of Smith and Rosario is worse then poor. I am hoping some of the young arms will be useful down the road but very few if any will have much of an impact next season. I don’t see many hitters with potential as well. Maybe Peter Alonso?

Terry Collins thankfully will not be back next season and while Alderson will likely be back next season I wish he wouldn’t. I do not place a lot of faith in management to hire a new manager.

I want to see what management does in the offseason with free agents. Will they sign marginal players or make an attempt to sign top free agents like Arietta, Moustakas and other players that could help.

I thought that Montero's recent starts looked pretty good.

He has been better the last month but some of that has been the result of playing the Phillies and Reds. He threw 107 pitches in 4 and 2/3 innings tonight against the Braves. Pretty good through 4 and then fell apart in the 5th. Anyway you slice it Montero is a well below average starter who is running out of chances to turn it around.

The mets made a sham of the final 2+ months of the season with the dumping of the roster after large number of injuries. Baseball is painful enough to watch without having a barren roster play out the string. I lost interest a long time ago because the mets ended their season in july

We can't afford any major injuries to this team.. we don't have anything waiting in the wings aside from Alonso. BA had all star lists from 7 different leagues and we landed 3 on them total!!! Shoot the Braves had more than that in one league.

Agree wholeheartedly.I hope we keep Cabrera to play second next year. Flores can be backup to Smith against lefties along with filling in at short and second. Of course we need the cheapo owners to sign Moustakas and a power hitting center fielder. Pitching wise we have a big problem with Matz, Wheeler and Harvey. Familia looked much better in his last outing. Let's face it we only have Familia, Ramos and Blevins in the pen. Gesellman and Lugo could possibly help going long.

As I previously posted the need to relieve Warthen of his pitching duties is about to come true. Finally we can award our fellow Redmen, Frankie Viola. Could Ventura be our next manager or will it be Alex Cora? Obviously it will have to be someone subservient to Alderson.

What about Geren? Some reports had him as a slam dunk. Would love to see Frankie V as the pitching coach.
