Met 2017 Season thread

I know its early but Jose Reyes is killing me.

Right now he is swinging at anything and everything. Lost right now. Thank god for Jay Bruce. The guy everyone wanted gone is getting it done. Good for him to silence his critics. At least until the next slump.

I feel like a owe Jay Bruce an apology this week. A lot of season left though.

Jay Bruce seems like a guy who will hit 25-30 HR's and drive in 90-100 runs. However, he will go through painful streaks where he will strikeout a ton and won't get a hit for two weeks. He will also suffer with his batting average. JB has a very defined back of the baseball card so you can't get too high or too low on him. With all that being said, I was/am shocked that he could not be traded in the offseason. He only has one year left on his contract. If you look around the league and look at what some teams (Detroit, Toronto, Fillies, etc) are putting out on the field it is amazing that Alderson could not find a deal so that he could play Michael Conforto.

It's not that early. I for 25 or more is pitiful, especially since he's not coming close to hitting the ball solidly Again as I previously posted too many strikeouts. Time for Reyes to sit, give Flores a chance..

Cespedes with 3 homers in the first 5 innings in Philly tonight. And yes, the Mets are winning.

In the interest of saving time Cespedes will lobby commissioner to not have to run out his home runs and to cut through the mound for ground rule doubles.

Nice night for the Good Guys

The Mets absolutely crush the ball at Citizens Bank ballpark. I would like to see them move that ballpark up the turnpike to Queens maybe on one of those double wide trailers!

Great win tonight, especially after a 4 run Marlin lead. Every reliever except Edgin gave superb performances. Nice to see d'Naurd come through even after crouching behind the plate for 16 innings. I'm curious to see if Conforto gets more playing time in place of Granderson. It won't hurt for Curtis to rest a few days a week.
I was disappointed to see Walker standing behind home plate doing nothing to help Cespedes score. Although I'm not sure Cespedes was interested in sliding tonight. Nice surprise to have Smoker stand out for his three inning stint.

great observations. man that was a late one. Glad the stock market is closed today so I can rest

I am still tired from that game. Good job by the bullpen. I like that all the guys people were killing (most notably D'Arnaud, Bruce) are really getting it done. I will add Conforto needs to play somewhere. He looks locked in when he hits right now. A consistent Conforto would make this line-up lethal.

We've won multiple ways the past few games which is a good sign that the team is not one dimensional. Always vital to get out of the gates playing well!

What bothers me a little bit about this team right now, is that I had visions of a lights out rotation with Matz and Wheeler pitching in the back end like front line starters.

It is very early, but Matz is looking more and more like a guys with great stuff who will spend his entire career on and off the DL with serious arm and shoulder related injuries. Wheeler hasn't pitched in 2.5 years so his progress will likely be slow. Lugo has has serious ulnar nerve problem, and Gselman hasn't looked like the guy (with Lugo) who helped carry them to the playoffs last September. However, Harvey looks intent on performing like an ace, so the front end of the rotation is looking great.

You can't fault them for not re-signing Colon, especially at the money the Braves paid.

The Mets are a streaky offensive team. Some days they will look like the 1961 Yankees, others like the 65-70 Michael Burke Yankees.

I am not giving up yet on Gselman. Yes, his first two games were certainly erratic to say the least. Once, hopefully he regains his command and starts getting ground balls he should come around. His fast ball is all over the place. Once Lugo returns we will have another starter or long man out of the bullpen.

Their over-reliance on homers is going to bite them in the ass again this year.

Only problem is Mets didn't lose last year because of over-reliance on homers. Injuries to the pitching staff is and will be the biggest concern.
