Met 2017 Season thread

Anyone going to the game on saturday ? I just got tix. Supposedly sold out but prices were reasonable on stub hub. Got pretty good seats in 122 for not crazy price

Yes, I have Saturday plan tickets. If you have any young ones or plan on getting the Harvey Garden Gnome you better get there early (its first 15,000! Last year I waited about an hour on a line that stretched past the old Shea markers in the parking lot. That was the Syndergaard gnome. I have seen these listed on sites for a couple hundred bucks. Not making that up. No I am not kidding. Besides they are playing the nats.

When asked after the game why he didn't allow deGrom to start the eight inning Collins went off on the reporters. When are you guys going to realize these guys have come off surgery and deGrom was up 100 pitches (actually 97). Didn't see the whole interview but I would be surprised if they didn't question his brain dead decision not to have Blevins ready for Yelich. Still can't get over it.

While I agree that starting the 8th inning, especially in warm weather miami, seemed like a good idea (especially in hindsight), every one of our starters have had major arm, elbow, or should problems. A game in April is not the time to stretch the limits, especially for a guy who has gone through dead arm periods. Given all that as much as Collins can be criticized elsewhere, his response is acceptable to me.

I was at the game on Sunday in Miami
They kept the roof closed and cranked up the AC full blast
I felt like I was sitting in a meat locker for 3 hours
Game was fun even though we lost
About half of the crowd rooted for the Mets
Nice (and friendly) banter with the Marlins fans throughout the game

I like Flores as a player. Duda is a free agent next year so let Flores play 1st next year if you aren't going to put him at 3rd.

I'd definitely like to see him play more at 3rd this year however if Reyes doesn't get going soon.

If they can't unjam the outfield, I'd like to see Conforto bring a first basemen's glove to spring training and play some there -there's a kid who may warrant 450 ABs

I agree 100%
This young kid has potential and shouldn't be rotting away on the bench
I thought Bruce was playing some 1B in spring training
The problem is that we have several corner OF's but no CF
Granderson is too old and not mobile enough to play there anymore
Lageras is our only true CF and he seems to be injured all the time

I suspect Dom Smith will be the starting 1b next year with Flores at third. Leave it to Mets fans to already be talking about next year :)

Right, the coddling of the Mets pitchers has really returned dividends to date. A game in April means as much in the standings as a game in September the last time I looked.

This we can agree on, he should be playing most everyday. Funny, Collins' reasoning for not playing him is it is all about winning now, except when it comes to the starting pitchers, then he reverts to the coddle crap.

Hey I don't love Collins all the time either. However, the same folks who are screaming about him pulling starters early will be the same guys howling if someone gets hurt. "He should have taken him out", "He got hurt because he was tired".

I can remember when Johan was throwing the no hitter and everyone was screaming for him to continue. Well he let him go and his career was basically finished after that. I think this colors some of Colins decisions with our starters as well as the fact they all have had serious arm issues.

A second example was all the second guessers who came out after he let Harvey try to close out the World Series game against the Royals. That didn't work out either and he was crucified. The second guessers had a field day. Had he taken him out and Familia started the 9th and blown the game he would have been crucified anywayl.

The issue is less about pulling starters and more about poor match-up decisions. Why wasn't Blevins brought in to face Yellich? After Yellich hit the HR why didn't he take Salas out? Why not walk Stanton and have Blevins face Bour who is far inferior to GS?

I think the issue with starters today is that they don't throw nearly enough. My guess is they are more likely to get hurt on the odd occasion when they are asked to throw 120-130 pitchers because they NEVER are allowed to do it anymore. That is a much wider debate that we can't possibly answer here.

Would like to see Conforto take over for Granderson. Granderson is a veteran player so should be able to figure out how to pinch it.

One of my clients goes to the games at like 10am and waits on line till the stadium opens just to get one. I'll be showing up at 3:30 :) I dont like waiting on line for anything. I'm too impatient. Plus if I got in the stadium early I'd be spending too much money on beers and food

Bench Reyes. He is killing us. Another brutal loss

Asked whether it is too early to bench Reyes in his after game interview Collins feels 100 to 150 at bats for a veteran is fair game before replacing Reyes. Good luck with that. Don't know why d'Arnaud did not move out of the way while this veteran was dropping the pop fly.

It's baffling to me you have the #1 prospect in baseball in Vegas. Couple that with Reyes who is getting paid virtually nothing by the Mets and is cooked IMO. Why not bench him and get this kid contributing right away?

The prospect, Rosario, is a shortstop, don't think they want to replace Cabrera .Plus Flores really deserves to play third.
Flores=platoon player.

Don't know why my mentioning Rosario's name bothers you. As long as Flores is used by Collins as a platoon player that's what he 'll remain. He deserves a chance to play everyday so we can judge if he can hit both righties and lefties. Still hitting better then Reyes' .100 batting average.

Yeah didn't think I had to spell out his name smh.

Pretty sure Cabrera could move to 3B. Don't know what games you've been watching to say flores deserves to do anything but pinch hit or start against lefties.

Don't think I have ever seen a manager have the infield back with runners on first and third, no outs and the score tied in the tenth inning. Gary Cohen and Darling were surprised that Collins would be giving up the go ahead run while hoping for a double play. Remember no outs! Let's face it, right now we seem to be offensively challenged.

I think they should consider sending Reyes to Vegas for a couple of weeks to work on a few things. Since he is a veteran I believe he would have to ok it. He is a mess right now and he is hurting the team. I think some of his off the field problems are affecting on the field play. It has worked for some other players in the past.

Missing out on much of the suffering as SNY is blacked out in South Florida during games. Is there a webcast of Mets games?

Great idea. probably a lot less pressure. Let him cut down on his homerun swings, needs to put ball on the ground.

Tim Leary, the next Tom Seaver

They have an outfield that is getting paid an aggregate of $60 million this season. They aren't going to bench any of them for Conforto unless he completely tears it up. I know the paradox, but that's the business reality of baseball.
