Met 2017 Season thread

I like Flores as a player. Duda is a free agent next year so let Flores play 1st next year if you aren't going to put him at 3rd.

I'd definitely like to see him play more at 3rd this year however if Reyes doesn't get going soon.

If they can't unjam the outfield, I'd like to see Conforto bring a first basemen's glove to spring training and play some there -there's a kid who may warrant 450 ABs

This we can agree on, he should be playing most everyday. Funny, Collins' reasoning for not playing him is it is all about winning now, except when it comes to the starting pitchers, then he reverts to the coddle crap.

They have an outfield that is getting paid an aggregate of $60 million this season. They aren't going to bench any of them for Conforto unless he completely tears it up. I know the paradox, but that's the business reality of baseball.

I understand, but it does not change the fact it is stupid, which is why the Mets don't win. Great example, the Red Sox benching Sandoval before he got hurt last year, they want to win, not play by the "reality" of the game. I will never understand the reasoning that says I will play the lesser player because he makes more money, beyond idiotic to me. And I don't disagree with you that that is the mind set for many sports organizations. I manage tough projects, the tougher and more challenging the better, and have made a very good living doing so. If anyone dared tell me I have to put my teams together based on how much money a person makes I couldn't find the door fast enough.

It's a logical argument, but when you pay someone that kind of money, there is a reasonable expectation that over the course of a season he will perform at that level because he has done that before, so you stick with them longer.

Curtis Granderson is a lifetime .255 hitter and has hit over .260 once since 2008. He hit 30 home runs and had 59 RBIs last season. He hits an occasional long ball, little else. The Mets overpaid for him and the idea of playing him everyday because they made a mistake 4 years ago makes no sense to me.

Bruce Almighty !

Just think, one of the teams that had some rumored interest in Jay Bruce was the Fillies.

Mets still not playing good ball yet but its a win that keep's you afloat until you right the ship. Familia makes his return tomorrow so we can see more imaginative ways Terry can blow games.

I don't understand the logic with Grandson. The fans love Conforto so its not going to hurt attendance which is the only thing ownership cares about.

I think Terry is more of an old school baseball type. He is stubbornly loyal to veteran players. He does similar yo yo treatment with Flores. Reyes goes 0 for the season and he is patient to a fault. Flores goes 0-4 and he sits for 3 games.

I have a soft sport for Curtis. He was so awesome with my son.. but its time for him to sit.

Baseball is a very long season, with offensive ebbs and flows for players. Last night Bruce carried the entire offense with 2 hrs and 5 RBIs. Last season it was a prolonged tailspin. I still think both Reyes and Granderson have something in the tank and both will produce. At this point, though, they need to get Conforto and Lagares to a lesser extent, some ABs. Lagares should be a late inning replacement in any game with a lead. Confortos problem is that as a LH hitter, Bruce, Duda, and Granderson also hit from that side, making it impossible to create a platoon. At this point, Conforto should start day game after night game, or get a start when they don't have a break in the schedule. Still not enough and that's for Collins to figure out.

I just dropped Reyes from my fantasy team - he is guaranteed to be NL player of the week next week.

I know how that works.

When you are 6 for 21, an ohfer 15, well within Conforto's ability, puts you at .167. As fans we fall in love with positive short term contributions. Is Conforto the guy with a Ted Williams eye at the plate, or the guy that waved at sliders in the dirt? Only time will tell if he is the real deal, but for now he will have to earn it, at least until the trading deadline if the Mets are sellers.

Well, we've already seen too many 0 for 15's from Granderson over the last few years. You keep saying Conforto has to earn it, I'd love to see your list of players who have earned PT from the bench. And then I would like to see your list of teams that developed their best prospects by burying them on that same bench. You bring them up, you play them, you especially don't bury them for a veteran well past his prime who has contributed very little for a very long time.

Reyes got a hit today and is batting over .100. Meanwhile Grandson fell to .143. The season is now 10% over.

I was watching the ranger game so didnt see any of the met game. Bruce played 1st ? How bad did Cespy injury look ?

Bruce played first and looked uncomfortable. He didn't layout for a double down the line and was involved in a strange play where Syndegaard was late covering and probably should have taken it to the base himself. Cespedes looked bad in the outfield which may have been a result of a stiff hammy. He seems to have bad legs. I don't think its serious but he will likely miss some time. Cabrera made a terrible error on an easy double play ball. If Lagares has to play, I am not sure you can win with a lineup that includes him, Grandson and Reyes. At least Matt Harvey Gnomes will bring a big crowd on Saturday, This could be a rough series.

unlike SJU games I have a really good record for seeing wins for baseball games when I attend the last several years.Gotta be close to 80%. Even the yankees win when I go so I am expecting a win on saturday

Right now, Conforto's BA is 100 points higher than Granderson's slugging %.

Really nice win obviously for the Rangers, afraid through the OT we were going to see one of those endings where the team being dominated in OT winds up winning on their one opportunity. Let's close it out Saturday...................
