Met 2017 Season thread

It's really hard to contrast year 1, 2 and 3 for Conforto. Take out year 2, and his progress this year would be expected. In his rookie year, he showed a great eye at the plate, and would hit pitches on the outer half of the plate with authority to left. Last season, he appeared to totally lose the strike zone, flailed at pitches in the dirt, and even had trouble with pitches on the fat part of the plate.

This year, his great eye has returned, his patience has returned, he is hitting outside pitches for home runs to left and left center. Unlike many who prove that the sophomore jinx is little more than pitchers developing a book on a hitter a few times around the league, he went home, lost weight, worked hard and came into spring training in the best shape of his life. He now has to be looked at as a tremendous part of a formidable 1-2 punch in the middle of the lineup once Cespedes returns. With his great eye, we may see a day where Conforto bats behind Cespedes to get Cespedes better looks.

Amazing turnaround, and it all looks legit.

Was there last night, and even w the bases loaded, nobody out in the 9th, was never more convinced they wouldn't score.

Grandy had struck out 7 of his last 8 times against the guy who fanned him to open the inning. Is there a reason he didn't bat Bruce?
Bruce had a stiff back. Not sure he was available last night.

Thanks. Anyone who could make contact would have been a better choice to hit than Grandy.

Thank God Conforto is not hitting 285 with 7 homers! Because if he was I can guarantee you he would be odd man out when Ces comes back.
August 1986 Mets released a struggling outfielder in the last year of a big contract. At the time George Foster was hitting 227 with 13 homers.
Granderson would have to go insane to get anywhere near those numbers. When Ces comes back cut bait. He should not take one at bat away from anyone else for rest of season.

Agreed it was tough to watch. No one was left except Bruce I think. I was more distressed with having Rene Rivera hit. I know he has hit well but he is really a poor hitter having a good run. He is not proven in pressure and still sits dead red on fastballs. Any pitch with a wrinkle he over swings plus he is a prime double play candidate.

It's pretty unthinkable that by the 9th inning we had no pinch hitters available.

We had Kevin Plawecki but he would have had to play the field if the game got tied and not sure he would have drove in a run anyway. He won't be in the majors much longer.

I was thinking in that situation where Granderson was so lost we'd have been better off with HArvey or deGrom hitting.

Yikes Plawecki, another guy who hits weak groundball after groundball into the ground yet still keeps getting chances.

I just did. Conforto is tops in everything but 2 less HR's in 15 less AB. I don't watch baseball but I keep reading about Judge. Seems Conforto is actually having a great year? Where's the national press?

Honestly even I was shocked until last night when a friend of mine put up a post on our mets fb page saying Conforto was having a better year. Crazy how he has flown under the radar

Not even on the All Star ballot.

More poor decisions by Collins. Takes out Gsellman after six innings and 84 pitches. His rationale after the game - he wanted him to feel good.with all the talk about an overworked bullpen. So he brings in Salas who threw one and a third the night before. And uses Edgin to face one batter to finish an inning Why not allow him to at least start the next inning. No so in his infinite wisdom he drags in Smoker who does not waste anytime allowing the go head run. BTW, his second HR allowed in two nights.

Great news. Rafael Montero is going to start tonight because of the weather. They don't want DeGrom's start to get interrupted by Thunderstorms they are expecting at 9pm. Not a weatherman but all forecasts show any storms coning much later. Also rain possible in Pittsburgh this weekend. At least this solves Saturday's dilemma.

I went last night. ORiginally I counted off days and deGrom's 5th day was last night. Then I saw they had pushed him until the 6th day and the weather forecast sucked for today I went last night.

Agree with Jack - GSellman had settled down and possibly could have gone 2 more inning if efficient.
Montero is horrible, and the entire bullpen stinks except for Reed, who hasn't been lights out.

I don't care who was on the mound, Granderson has got to put wood on the ball and get it out of the infield at worst. Rene Rivera is a career .215 hitter. I think Collins' exit strategy is to get fired.

1st time I'm ever about to drive to citifield and I'm hoping for a rainout, Freaking Montero ? This is like some bad joke

$56 for Delta seats behind home plate last night and that was with the stub hub fees. It was like watching the Mets from the Vince Coleman era. IS it possible that a great deal on great seats wasn't worth it? Maybe

You get what you pay for usually.

The NWS forecast for LGA just has drizzle until about 9pm as someone else had mentioned. But, believe me...that 9pm could be 8pm or 10pm. We aren't that good.

Mets back down to earth big time hitting with runners on base. Seem to be turning into a team that just finds a way to lose.

Game long over and still not raining. Really doesn't matter as this is one of the worst if not worst team in baseball right now.

that makes sense because we had 5th row behind the met dugout and my seats were free ( business ) and we end up watching another shite show in crappy weather. I can't complain too much because we stayed in that delta 360 lounge until around I think the 5th inning when the mist was gone

Too bad stinky Montero isn't gone yet.
