We are a last place team.

I have determined that Owens is not a BE Center and we need one next year . He has no inside game and ponds outrebounds him, every game . And , as someone said , Owens spends a lot of time on his Ass ., awful game tonight .

Owens played poorly tonight, but the kid has improved each year. I hope he comes back next year and continues to improve.

When Howard went down in the Creighton game and Marquette was trailing by 16 points, they turned the game around by going to a zone defense. That strategy was the key in that big comeback win.

Before tonight's game I wondered if they would use that same startegy against us. Unfortunately for our guys they did. We have definitely struggled this season at times against zones and tonight this was the case again.

Give Marquette credit! They lost their leading scorer, regrouped in the middle of what looked like certain defeat on the road and executed an improbable upset comeback. Then tonight they built on that victory and beat us by playing an excellent all around game. They were a very different team tonight than the one we beat on February 10th.

Now we must regroup and try to finish strong. We went on an improbable run and won four in a row and need to start another winning streak beginning with Seton Hall on Saturday.

a total of 4 rebounds and 9 points combined from Bashir and Owens and we are not going to win a game against anyone.
Ahmed so disappointing this year. Owens was terrible tonight. I’m the only one who cares, but wish Yakwe would get done burn. His not playing suggests there must be some discord which is a shame.
Owens was a lumbering giraffe tonight. Almost as if whatever game plan was designed he played as if he was not happy with his role. Bashir Ahmed collecting 3 fouls early took him physically and mentally out of the game. Yakwe, as a junior, has made almost no progress as a basketball player. Puzzling to saythe least. I thought, except for his poor defense, Clark played a good game and hopefully Trimble's three point shooting was not an anomaly. Justin played decent but not great. Shamorie unfortunately has been getting too much attention and reading the press clippings. He was absolutely horrible tonight. Like old times, our three point defense was terrible. Credit Marquette for using ALL their players efficiently. They are young and talented with good size and will be projected above St. John's next year, especially if Ponds leaves. There are no impact players coming to date so recruiting better bring some surprises.

Transition defense was horrible as evidenced by Marquette's 27 fast break points
Owens didn't show up tonight even Trimble outrebounded him 5 to 2
Speaking of rebounding Marquette out boarded us 37 to 27
Only caused 12 turnovers, probably smallest all season
Clark could not stay with Houser
Time for Mullin to put a stop on Owens three point shooting
Trimble showing he can play and shoot. Congrats on his performance tonight
Wojo had his team ready with their zone defense, especially having the guards fall back thus preventing any passes to Ponds and Clark on the foul line
We'll get back against Seton Hall on Saturday
Long ride home

Bad game. Paultz will be very happy to hear that I sold my Asian mystic robes to....DePaul fans.

We stunk it up. We always suck after some time off. Give them credit they played, and were ready to play. On to the next.

FWIW. I HATE the BLUE uniforms, I can’t ever remembering us winning a game wearing those. Wish they would BURN THEM.

Owens isn’t athletic
What?
19pnts 14boards in NJ this year vs. Delgado, but no shows in alot of games.
Last year at MSG vs SHU he had a strong game.

Hopefullt that continues Saturday.

(1-4) this year wearing the alternate blue:

Rutgers (exh) (L)
UCF (W)
Arizona State (L)
Xavier (L)
Marquette (L)

Marquette shot 54% from three. I don't care who comes here next year, if we allow our opponents to shoot 50% from the arc, we will be at the bottom of the conference again.

I expected to lose the rebounding battle this year, but the long distance defense has absolutely killed us.

Owens looked and played like he was sick. Maybe he has the flu. As for Ponds, he forced an awful of of shots. Trust your teammates.

Predictable free form game with every one out of synch. The worst of the worst were Owens and Ahmed who were pushed around like rag dolls. I am starting to get the feeling Owens, Yakwe and Ponds will not be back which will put Mullin further behind in the perennial "rebuild" process with master recruiter Matt Abdelmassih not getting it done with any impact players that would be game changers next year....if Matt is even around! Three star players are not going to turn this program around. Need someone who can recruit studs and not projects.
The next guy who utters "possible NCAA bubble team" needs electro shock treatment.

As do all the people who thought this was going to turn around in two years. You all should get real and understand “studs” don’t fall over themselves to come to what is essentially a commuter school that hit rock bottom just three years ago. No patience, no understanding of what it really takes, especially if you are not interested in just paying players, go root for Kentucky. I am not making excuses, I am telling you it is hard and we are seeing hard. Enjoy the fact we have a essentially a flawed 5 man team that did not fold their tent when all the “ fans” on this board long ago did or root for someone else. It certainly may not happen but it sure as hell was not going to happen in two years. Anyone who thought otherwise probably has had, or should have, shock treatment.

Agreed the announcers were not good. 1) SJU is a great rebounding team 2) the BET will be electric as patrick Ewing returns to the Garden for the first time as a coach 3) Marcus Lovette is transferring. Strike 1,2,3

Losing stinks and is disappointing no doubt - but I agree with one poster who with uncanny wisdom said yesterday if we lose I hope some don’t go over the top with their negative reactions - and IMO some already have “Owens & Ponds will leave, Matt can’t recruit, the program will never turn around” - can we give that a rest.

Losing to a decent & “motivated-to-win” Big East team on
the road is not a calamity especially for a no-bench over-matched team which we are.

We played and won four good [instagram][/instagram]games in a row. Did anyone really believe we would run the table w kids playing 40 minutes and no margin for error? Let’s take a deep breath and get real.

BTW Iliked your opinion Logen - “balanced, truthful and fair” sprinkled in with a little poise and reality - so thanks.

I hope we beat Seton Hall. I hope we find a way to end the season at .500 and move on to 2018-19 when we will have more players and options.

All the best.
And let’s go St.Johns!

Ray Morgan -
Maybe Owens was sick. Maybe some of the kids are worn out. Maybe the grind of losing, of fan critique, of school and family issues have taken their toll. Maybe they can’t be “on” for every game.

Maybe we can give them a break. Clarke, Simon, Owens, Ahmed and of course Ponds playing sooo many minutes as best they can - thanks for your hustle, grit and perseverance guys - for a five (and perhaps six) man team playing in the BE Div 1 level - you’re working miracles..
Keep on keeping on. I’m enjoying your effort and refusal to quit.

A bad outing, team had no legs. Perhaps six man rotation is taking its toll. We did not look sharp v DePaul either.

Lastly, I love Owens's attitude, shot blocking and hustle, but he just has zero post moves. You don't need to be 240 pounds to post up a guy. On several occasions he got the ball down low, but unfortunately has no drop step or moves in post. He real is a hybrid player & more of a stretch four than a five. I know the game is different today with more emphasis on perimeter play, but without any post threat you can't play the inside/out game so common on winning teams. I'm not sure help is on the way in that regard. Hopefully Kieta can help, especially with his bulk.

Bad game last night. As Paultzman said, looked like we were out of gas. Owens & Ahmed were no shows and Shamorie & Simon had 10 turnovers between them and neither ooked sharp. Unfortunately we dug a deep hole for ourselves in January and it is unrealistic to think we were going to win out. Trimble continues to develop (32 minutes, 19 points 5 rebounds and 0 turnovers) and at this point, am happy to see him come in for Ahmed. Also Clark continues to rebound well (6 last night) and both of those bode well for next year. With 2 of last 3 at home, no reason we can't take two and with a couple of wins in BE tournament we'd get strong NIT consideration. Owens had a bad game last night, but it happens to everyone. Kid generally plays his heart out and can play a big role for us as a senior next year. We know he worked hard last off season, this off season needs to work on low post game. Funniest part of broadcast for me last night was when Dickie Simpson said he'd put on muscle since last year!
