If you work in an office with only one woman who is 200 pounds with a giant mole on a cheek does the fact that she is the only woman make her attractive?
Yes
Hopefully you never wind up in prison.
You know I am a Mullin guy. And I am certainly not pining for Lavin. But I also don't blindly repeat "all is well" like Kevin Bacon in Animal House. I understand Lovett situation was somewhat unforeseen. Though based on his track record was it? But we are in a power conference and we only have 6 guys that can or should play. One of which is a frosh and the other is Ahmed. That is....that is not good.
I didn't say all was well. You started off by saying that there should be seven guys who can play and there aren't and why doesn't Matt get slammed for it. But there were seven guys who could play as late as a month ago, when one of them quit. So maybe they should have planned for that and for Wilson quitting and for Brown identifying as a woman. Although in year three that's a lot to plan for. Then you said the roster's not balanced, but it is balanced, far more balanced than it's been in years. Now you're complaining because what? Because Ahmed and Trimble aren't as good as what, some other freshman they might have recruited and some other JUCO player of the year who they passed over? If there are no seniors except stupid Alibegowitz because Lavin stopped recruiting and there's only one true junior and he's not very good because Mullin got hired in April when all the good players were taken and you don't want to rely on transfers like Simon and Clark and you don't think three star freshmen like Trimble should play, then who's left to play? I guess Matt could be slammed for not recruiting a bunch of sophomores who are good as Shamorie Ponds. Although if there's a bunch of sophomores that's not really a balanced class.

They didn't get hurt because Matt is a bad recruiter, they got hurt by defections, by guys who left because they figured that the guys who were coming in were better than they were. By dopey Ellison - who's so smart he transferred from the best BB Conference in the country to the worst team in the country - and the Euros.

They don't need to get rid of MA, they need to clone him.

Again you don't have to bring up Lavin with me. I thought the Lavin era was acceptable. Certainly a huge upgrade over the Norm era. I thought he did well enough to earn an extension outside of them bringing in a clear upgrade or Chris Mullin or Walter Berry. With an extension Lavin would have gotten even more complacent and it would have ended ugly. They brought in a coach whose poster was on the wall of my bedroom as a kid. I am pro Mullin no matter what.

Which brings me to my point. People were killing Mullin and suggesting he needs some old white guy to come in and show him how basketball should be played. To me the problem is we do not have enough talent or even players at this point to win games. I personally don't agree with the transfer heavy recruiting and when he was hired the idea was to have he teamed with Slice. Matt and Slice had their pissing contest Matt won and everyone went "YEAH". Team has not had enough talent to win consistently but Slice got killed, Mullin gets killed on here but people act like Matt is the 2nd coming of whoever was the guy at Michigan that recruited the Fab 5.

Jack , I would have liked Simon to post up Rowsey too, but he never did . The Marquette Zone prevented it . Or, at least we didn’t try to make him play D . Simon had a lot of trouble with Hauser all night . Our Man D isn’t credible defending against the 3 and Owens , Ahmed and Clark are terrible rebounders for a major D 1 program . When Ponds grabs more rebounds than your front court players , you know you are in trouble . Game after game , we never get a offensive rebound . In fact , usually no one even in the paint after a outside shot . We have no player who likes to bang and battle inside . It’s a major weakness in the BE . Has been all year . Maybe if Simon were 6’8” instead of 6’5” , we might be more a factor inside . Next year , we need a big , slow , surefooted European Biggie , who has skilled fundamentals . Kanter, Macic , Wagner, etc , who have game . Not like Ali but, someone who has size , bulk and willing to battle inside . We haven’t had a quality big man in decades . And, both Mullin and Richmond never had a true Biggie with the Warriors . Chris Gatling was their Center as I recall . He was undersized at the position . Which is why TMC never really challenged for a NBA title despite having 2 HOF , Mullin and Richmond , a HOF Coach , Nelson and Hardaway who most certainly belongs in the HOF . Why isn’t he ? He had the first indefensible cross over dribble .

I agree Sly, especially watching Owens, the only one who stays around after an outside shot, but doesn't attempt to charge the boards. Takes a glance and runs up court.

I don’t think it was Brown identifying as a woman that was the problem, I think it was him identifying as a criminal that was.

3 years still to be relying primarily on transfers is a dangerous way to build a team/ program and one of the reasons for the roster imbalance we have now.
This looks pretty balanced to me

SR:Clark/Owens/Yakwe

JR:ponds/[Lovett]/Simon

SO: Dixon/Trimble/Keita/[Wilson/Brown]

FR:Williams/Roberts/Diakite/[Brooks]

Seven forward, six guards, six upperclassmen, seven underclassmen.

Lavin's last year he had six seniors (and 2 juniors, obekpa and balamou, that's eight upperclassmen, and two sophs, jordan and jones, and one freshman, the great amar alibowitz. That's an unbalanced roster.) I think balancing the roster's one of the few tangible things you can credit staff with having done and especially considering the defections.
That is one thing the transfer game really helps out with. A good mix of transfers and HS kids will help keep the balance for years. Look at Seton Hall's team for next year, they will be fighting for the bottom spot of the Big East. Reminds me of Lavin's last year/Mullin's first year.
