AGREE NCAA out of the picture has been for a long time If we can pick up 3 more wins and thats a big if Nit is an outside possibility

Look Owens is ok at blocking shots ,but can not hold big men in D and he should be 6 man or so off the bench next yr.Ponds 4 games where he was great but I would rather a guard that is consistent and plays great D instead of averaging 33 over 4 games GOOD COACHING WOULD HELP and lets not fall in love with Matt we need a recruiter who can bring in an impact player recruiters who can bring in 3* players are a dime a dozen WE are starting off with a few good players next yr but unless we recruit better we will be average as best next yr WE NEED HELP

We’re not as bad as we were during the losing streak, and certainly not as good as we were during the win streak. When Shamorie is on fire we can beat anyone, when he’s not we can loose to anyone. No margin for error with fouls or injuries or guys being MIA for a game. We can’t win unless our top 6 are all involved. Even so, we are a .500 team that should be in the NIT. If we make it, I’ll consider this year progress.
Losing stinks and is disappointing no doubt - but I agree with one poster who with uncanny wisdom said yesterday if we lose I hope some don’t go over the top with their negative reactions - and IMO some already have “Owens & Ponds will leave, Matt can’t recruit, the program will never turn around” - can we give that a rest.

Losing to a decent & “motivated-to-win” Big East team on
the road is not a calamity especially for a no-bench over-matched team which we are.

We played and won four good [instagram][/instagram]games in a row. Did anyone really believe we would run the table w kids playing 40 minutes and no margin for error? Let’s take a deep breath and get real.

BTW Iliked your opinion Logen - “balanced, truthful and fair” sprinkled in with a little poise and reality - so thanks.

I hope we beat Seton Hall. I hope we find a way to end the season at .500 and move on to 2018-19 when we will have more players and options.

All the best.
And let’s go St.Johns!
That would be me who suggested that. You can tell I spend too much time on these boards because I knew it was coming and it did lol. Same typical conplaints

Criticism of Matt is unwarranted. Mullin should have resolved the conflict with Slice and we would have two recruiters that we could be very comfortable with at this time. Better two good recruiters, then "two Hall of Famers on the bench." They are 2 HOF players, not 2 HOF coaches.
The 11 game losing streak is a killer for this season, but I think, overall, the coaches and players are improved over last year's team. We still need some more players, not just warm bodies.

I will always remember him for the Duke game, but again I am pretty excited about the Ahmed experience coming to an end.

Owens absolutely needs to get stronger. He gets nudged and he is on the floor. I like him and he does a lot of good things but seriously eat a cheeseburger. If he can get a little stronger would help him tremendously both on the court and in picking up chicks. Beach season right around the corner.

Going to see a lot of zone to prevent Ponds penetration.

Lovett was only guy that gave an honest effort closing out. Maybe has something to do with only playing 6 guys??

Rowsey looks like the Fighting Irishman mascot.

This was a revenge game at home for a team fighting for an NCAA berth on Al McGuire night. For all we know it was senior night too and free cheese night. We shouldn't be surprised that Marquette played extremely well and was really motivated for this game. Although our current roster can hang and even beat just about anybody, I would love to see us get an impact recruit for next year. Otherwise, I'm not expecting big things as 3 point shooting will still be just so so, and no indication any of our recruits have a post game.

Late in the game re recruiting game re getting impact recruit, unless Matt comes up with grad transfer big, which seems to be present strategy. Not sure why they don't cast wider ne with a solid Juco player. We'll see how things break after the season. I think adding a HS role player and the grad noted would be it, but hope to be surprised.
A bad outing, team had no legs. Perhaps six man rotation is taking its toll. We did not look sharp v DePaul either.

Lastly, I love Owens's attitude, shot blocking and hustle, but he just has zero post moves. You don't need to be 240 pounds to post up a guy. On several occasions he got the ball down low, but unfortunately has no drop step or moves in post. He real is a hybrid player & more of a stretch four than a five. I know the game is different today with more emphasis on perimeter play, but without any post threat you can't play the inside/out game so common on winning teams. I'm not sure help is on the way in that regard. Hopefully Kieta can help, especially with his bulk.
I noticed that yesterday. I watched the 2nd half, No inside game. When Marquette moved the ball there was inside out movement. Our ball movement was almost extensivlly on the perimeter. Also have to be able to score on the inside to mix things up.

The only possibility is Jordan Brown. Or are our chances somewhere between a pipe dream and a mega millions lottery ticket?

Probably in that range :)

Earlier before the surprising 4 game win streak I said that Ja'Raan Brooks would be Mullin’s Briscoe because he was coming, he was coming and poof, he's gone. Although we are adding great depth for next season which I am very happy about most need to be realistic and realize that if Ponds leaves the team has no star power. I'm not sure Brooks would have been a go-to worthy player but not one player who is returning or coming is that player at the moment.
Regarding your "too late in the game" observation the point of matter is that in our third recruiting cycle we ARE still late in the game. Shamorie wanted to stay home and play in front of family and friends but where are we with all the other 4 star plus recruits in the tri-state area? What was perceived as a dynamic duo of recruiting has been diminished to a guy who specialized in transfers and JCs at Iowa State. As anyone can see with the recruitment of Dixon, Owens, Clark, Ahmed, Keita, Simon and now maybe a grad transfer Matt getting PREP 4 or 5 star players is always going to be a long shot. Nice to see Mullin and St. Jean making west coast trips to see Brown but I'm not convinced those trips are any more intensive recruiting wise than Lavin's when he combined half-hearted recruiting trips with visits to family and friends. In New York City St. John's needs a budding star on the team to get the limited media attention to attract other than hard core fans. Matt Abdelmassih is not the man to get that player in my opinion. At least not working alone.

While everyone has beating the we need a bench coach drum, I would rather another recruiter.

Agree we should not depend solely on Matt and it should be noted some assistant coaches at solid programs perform both functions.

Defined roles are all the rage.
Mullin yells at the refs
Matt A recruits transfers
ST Jean uses dry board
Mitch reminisces with Mullin about RUN TMC
This way it ensures no more cock fights like what happened between Matt and Slice.
St John's Marquette recaphttp://www.bigeastboards.com/
I was reading your piece on the 2nd Marquette game and stopped when I came to

"In fact I like to think that we are kindred spirits he and I, sharing as we do a healthy contempt for white people and the US government."

I stopped reading. Enough said.
