October 16

Really? I enjoyed the hell out of that game.

So did I, just pointing the time we should have a competitive, deep squad. Don't take me too seriously. I have been at this far longer than you, so humor works for me through growing pain period.

Maybe not longer but I get your point. Been a fan back to Frankie Alagia

As a kid, followed Tony Jackson team & am a 69 grad.
the you as I followed one of the greats. Were it not for the scandal he would have been an all pro Although believe he was out of school by 1962

Loved the effort today.

Yakwe is a legitimate stud. Will be a flat out star as a junior and hopefully senior.

Johnson was still chucking, but I think there were less ridiculous shots today

M'Vouika had a nice game. Decent shooter, reliable at the foul line and a great attitude. At the end of the season, I will thank him for helping us bridge to the future.

Team is enjoyable to watch

We are playing some really good teams down the stretch the last few games, with only freshmen, one guard, no starting center now.. Anybody worried about coaching shouldn't be.. Can anybody imagine how we will be playing with a bunch more talent on board, multiple guards and d-1 capable big men, and some experience? We will be difficult for most teams right off the bat next season... Our improvement is already apparent across the board... Exciting times ahead!

I too am looking forward to next year but I am not giving up on some upsets this year. This team has growing talent, they seem to be settling into a system and they are competitive most of the time.

That being said I am looking forward to About mid-December of next year when the next new batch are finally settling into the system and the doomsdayers begin to quiet down, as they spend longer frames of time contemplating metaphorical ways to continue to futilely compare what's going on right now to the Jarvis/Roberts/Lavin era.

Talk about doing it with mirrors.......................
We really have 1, maybe 2 BE caliber players on the current roster.
We'll have 4 more come October.
Very excited for the future.

I think there are more than 1 or 2. Mussini, Sima, Johnson, Yawke, even Amar with the right system is a BE player

1 or 2 starters (eventually, really 1 today and his hand is broken) but I agree quite a few who could get minutes on some BE teams at some point in their career.

I think Ellison is a Big East caliber guy as well. He might have a ways to go, but he has talent and athleticism. He might not be a starter, but he will contribute..

What system is that for Amar? Nice kid, who hustles, but won't see much time next season.

Owens will take minutes from Amar. Owens is taller, long, gazelle athleticism and solid passer for a big guy. He's got some upside and will bolster options up front at 4-5. He just needs to crank up the weights this season.

Wilson hit two big threes and our guys could not match it. Great effort.

And we're more than one year away.

It takes a new staff four years to establish a strong program where bad games are infrequent.

With the year of experience under their belt, all of the returning kids should be solid contributors at the very least. Maybe a kid like Sima goes from "solid contributor" to "star". Add in Lovett, Ponds and Ahmed and you've got the nucleus of a middle of the pact Big East team and likely NIT participant. I would gladly take that as part of our re-building process. Now if we get Fruedenberg and /or Rawle, then expectations rise slightly. The following year I am expecting an NCAA bid. Any way you slice(no pun intended) it, we are headed in the right direction.

Monte, I'm expecting a slight improvement next season unless the German kid is a lottery pick type talent. We'll still be very young next year with all the players being first and second year players. The talented point guards are freshmen. I'm not confident about a winning season.

The following year, we have enough experience to make the tournament.

Year four should be the year that the Program becomes the power we all want to see.

In the interim, it is encouraging to see that Mullin has these kids working hard and improving.

I think we will be more than marginally improved. We almost just beat two of the best teams in he Big East and gave Providence a run and we have half as much talent as we are going to have next year.

Yes we will still be young but bring in two top 40 guards, the best jc player in America and a top international prospect amongst others. Couple that with great improvement of mussini, Yakwe, sima, Ellison already and I think we will have some effective talent at all spots on the floor.

It will be nothing like the big holes we have this season. I'm not saying we will be a final 4 team, but I think it will be more than marginal improvement with a serious injection of talent and added experience.

I predicted 10 wins this season without Lovett and I believe we can win 20 next year barring no major injuries. We have no pg this season , by far the most important position in college ball. Next year we add two Very good PGs in Lovett and Ponds and slide Mussini over to where he can do the most damage. I love our future backcourt with Ellison being the 4th guard. A huge improvement over this season. Too bad Sima got hurt as he had exceeded our wildest expectations. Next season's front court of Sima, Yakwe and Ahmed will be super. All three will be double digit scorers and Yakwe and Sima will be great on the boards and blocking shots. Backing them up will be Owens , CJ, AA , Williams and perhaps Richard F and you have a very good bench.
Look for a huge improvement from this season to next.
Future is super bright.

I haven't read the whole thread but I am really proud at the way this team battled today. Especially without Sima. Yakwe is going to be a beast if he puts in the necessary work in the weight room in the offseason. I think a kid like Ellison can also be real contributor next year if he works on his outside over the summer. This could have been very good this year if we didn't have have the injuries and ineligibles that we've had. Next year with a frontline of Sima, Yakwe and Ahmed with Owens, Williams, Amar and possibly Freudenberg along with Lovett, Ponds Ellison and Mussini in the back court this will be a good team. If we get Alkins that would be fantastic. Very much looking forward to next year but I enjoy watching this team play their hearts out. onward and upward.

Agree. Hasn't been hitting the three lately.

Jack, does Yakwe remind you of David Russell a bit? David was a more skilled lefty early in development & less of a power guy, but for whatever reason, I think of DR when I see Yakwe.

Yakwe does remind me of David Russell
Russell never developed a consistent mid-range jump shot
If Yakwe does, look out!!!

Amar and CJ should work in a bakery
They're both great at making turnovers

When all of a sudden the thread was interrupted by an unlikely dick wizening contest. The spectators made popcorn and leaned forward in their seats.

Serious question because I didn't notice. Were all our players on the bench today including kids not playing ?

Maybe time has clouded my memory, but I don't see the connection at all ... especially on the defensive end.

Proud of our team the last few games. Undermanned (and under-talented) but played hard and hung in against much better teams. The guys kept it competitive and entertaining.

My thoughts on the future:
-Barring something unexpected (Like landing Thon Maker) Sima is probably our starting center for the next 4 years and I think by his junior/senior years he'll be one of the better centers in the conference.
-If Yakwe stays 4 years and continues to develop his game, he's got NBA potential. He's going to be a big contributor for as long as he's here moving forward.
-Mussini will go to the bench next season and it will be the best thing that's ever happened to him. He just may be one of the best shooters in the country when all we ask him to do is camp out and knock down 3's. Coach loves this kid and he's a scoring weapon so he'll always get playing time, but how much he gets will depend on his defense. Can he get stronger and quicker?

I think those 3 guys have significant roles to play next season. I don't see the other guys being a big part of it. Not completely writing off Ellison yet, but my gut says he'll eventually land as a couple of minutes a game type of guy. Amar and CJ too. I think Owens takes most of their minutes. LoVett, Ponds and Ahmed are all big gets and any one of them would be our biggest impact recruit if they were on this year's squad. That means everyone else slides down 3 spots which puts Ellison, Amar and CJ at the end of a 10 man rotation. If we get Freudenberg, that knocks a couple of them out of the rotation completely and I wouldn't be shocked to see a transfer or two.

Can you guys tell me why you are so high on Owens. I wasn't that impressed when I first heard that he was transferring here and I have concerns with his lack of weight. Yet, everyone is saying that he will take all the minutes from guys who are currently playing and contributing. What am I missing?

Paultz do you see us as a .500//NIT bid team next year?
