Lovett

This university better sit down and have a serious discussion about the basketball program. Do they really want a legitimate program or do they want to continue the garbage that we have witnessed for far too long. What a a disgrace this has become. We are not competitive on any level. Either spend the money (new arena, new coaches who know what they are doing) and rectify this embarrassing disgrace that is being shown on national tv. Enough excuses enough bull about building for next year. Either give it all up or go all out and change the things that need to be changed. Stop embarrassing your alumni by putting this product on tv.

You’re too emotional right now. You talk about spending the money, but where is the money coming from? It’s estimated that it will cost 250 million dollars for a new arena ( Goff quote), then you have to average the cost of replacing the staff. So that’s paying Mullin the remainder of his salary ( two more years I believe), paying Matt ( we just gave him a raise last year) and we would lose out on their recruits.

Just wait it out.

if the islanders get their Belmont arena , why not try to play or put a place there?

I'd love to see that happen . . . but since this might be the first time I've ever seen anyone mention it, I'll assume the AD hasn't thought about contacting the Islanders or NYRA at all.

If you are not willing to make changes and spend money, then give up the program. How many years do we have to watch and be embarrassed. I am not emotional, just stating the facts. Guys like you say this every year and we continue every year to be the laughing stock of college hoops.

SJU is spending the money, it’s just bad hiring that’s the problem. I looked up college coaches basketball salaries for 2017-2018. Mullin makes the same amount as Sean Miller in Arizona, more than Few at Gonzaga, both Hurley’s and Tony out of UVA ( confident this will change soon though).

So the money for coaching is there.

You can’t say facilities as well because ours was better than Nova’s ( before they upgraded) and Gonzaga’s.

It’s not money it’s bad hiring’s.

The toughest places to play a good team is on their own own campus arena, where loud nasty students fill half the lower bowl, and make it a nightmare for opposing teams. Move 3 miles away from campus and we'd lose many of the small group of students we already have.

Then season ticket holder would bitch about paying $25 for parking and $6 sodas. We have an off campus arena perfect for 630 pm starts when we have a good squad - msg.

I'd love to see a 9000 seat arena on campus

we can always save a boat load of money and move to Div 2

And good bye to Fox media money that pays for the current group of coaches. We can then move the games to Taffner Field house and put some chairs along the sidelines. Carnesecca Mausoleum can then be demolished for the construction of a 10 story parking lot to accommodate the 500 additional students needed to fund all the scholarships needed for the other sports.

I love reading everyone's comments. As an '83 grad I've been through the great and the worst of times. However, we keep doing things the same way with every new regime and expecting a different result. I learned at SVC that was a definition of insanity. The only way to change the program is to allow it to evolve from high level to mid level D1 hoops. Change the process and expect better results. A move to the MAAC would reset expectations and allow for some fun times again. Sure we could still (for old time's sake) schedule non-conf vs two big east teams per year. That gets our power ranking up anyway. The past is just that, the past. Time to evolve as a university men's basketball program, to what we really are able to be. A successful mid level program.

MAAC would be great. 90% of season ticket holders would cancel, we could then build a smaller arena, or use St. Gregory's gym which is right next to the shiny new Islander's arena to be built. They have a nice refreshment stand where you can buy candy bars and cans of soda. Courtside seats are cheap, and there isn't a bad seat in the house.

Should I respond twice because you posted this twice?

Wow!, I understand thew frustration; add me to the list of those who are frustrated, BUT we are one serious injury from having possibly 4 to 5 Big East wins. We have a good class coming in. Move back from the ledge and like we ask of the team keep fighting. "Things are darkest before the dawn" I hope :)

Did you really have to post your ridiculous comment in two different places? It's so silly, it's not even worth responding.

Suggesting a move to the MAAC Conference is a little like Debbie Wassermsn Schulz saying $1000 doesn’t mean anything to most people ...

Hey buddy , how do you think Villanova does without Brunson or DeVinchinzo ? Or, Seton Hall without Delgado ? Our 5 players never played with each other before this season . Simon and Clark were new additions . Perhaps a bit overrated but, decent players . This Year’s Team was suppose to be Ponds and Lovett and pray for Rain .. 40 points a game or more from this duo .. would have likely got us to 9-9 in BE and 5th or 6 th Place . Subtract that 18-20 points a game and see how well any BE team does ?

I am an Alum of the class of 1961. I think the talk of retreating in the face of difficulty is utterly repulsive, and repugnant. I have every confidence that this great institution will put their heads together, and along with Coach Mullin and some adjustments to the coaching staff, right the ship. Not today or tomorrow, but it will get done. Have patients guys. we are all frustrated and hurting right now. The BIG EAST needs a STRONG New York City Team. We are NEW YORK'S TEAM, we need to be strong.

I thought the darkest days under Mullins was 2 years ago, 1-17. Shit, this year (year 3) might be worse, we could go 0-18. But, yeah I know, Lovetts injury. ahhhhhh

Does anyone in their right mind think there isn't a ton more talent on this year's team than Mullin's 1st year. You know, for as much as there are lines drawn on here for people supportive of Mullin and blaming Mullin, even wanting him fired, I've been told that as much as Chris tells his players that if you play long enough you will go through this, and remain positive, this is absolutely killing Chris.

He didn't come here for this. He's not a quitter, and he's not just cashing a paycheck. He is as committed as ever to delivering a winner here. Of that I am certain. I had occasion to speak to him last week at length, and afterwards as I said good night, I pulled closer to him and said, "Listen. You are the right guy for this job, and this is the right time. Just keep at it" I believe that as much as ever.
