LoVett Future

Not that I want to see Lovett leave. But we are fortunate that Simon is on board next year. Let's hope Mussini stays and we get a skilled grad transfer big. If that happens I still think we will be in good shape next year.
I really hope Mussini stays. He will be very valuable to the team and important to have upperclassmen but I fully expect him to be improve even more and become even more efficient and he can be a killer from beyond the arc

4th guard, shooting specialist would be ok. I assume if LoVett leaves, the grad guard Matt is pursuing will be good enough to be in top three.

Interesting - in that scenario, any thoughts on where that might leave Ellison?

Sorry if I missed it, but where was it reporter that Matt is pursuing a transfer guard or is that just speculation in light of the fact that Lovett is likely leaving?

For a short time, he has been looking at grad transfer guard in event ML leaves.

In that scenario, I guess either would be fourth guard & one would probably move on. In my opinion, they would not be looking at grad guard unless they thought it would be an improvement. LoVett staying would obviously change the equation. Also, it is one thing to target a transfer & another to get him, although Matt plays this game well.

Curious to hear others thoughts, but does the fact that we are actively pursuing a transfer guard (e.g., someone like McMurray) suggest that the staff may not be fully sold on Simon's ability to run the point? Perhaps I'm way off base on this one.

I heard the contrary, that they are very confident he can.

If he is a big part of the rotation next year we won't make NIT. He is a fine 4th guard and don't want to see Monte act like Jon Favreau from Swingers after he got dumped so for those reasons hope he stays. But really won't impact our team next year if he leaves.

Not a big fan obviously but it's not good for anyone when juniors transfer. You live through two years of growing pains and then when the growing pains might pay off you trade the junior for a freshman who's going to go through two years of growing pains. This program needs class balance and roster continuity to be successful. We have not had that in forever.

I get that. But if Lovett leaves, I would be upset. Just couldn't get that worked up over Mussini. Sort of like if Kramer left Seinfeld and then next day guy who played Mr Pitt also decided to leave.

I am probably among the few not familiar with the 5th year transfer rules for Grad Students. Can someone , esplain it to me, Lucy?

When do they appear on a eligible transfer list? How many can you get? Our biggest need is a Big One.. 6'10' and 240 who can play , rebound, shoot and box out. Creighton, Marquette, Butler seem to do well in getting transfers who play right away and contribute .

Mussini did a nice job coming off the bench and providing production. He was efficient . Next year he will be stronger and more experienced. Don't want him as our stating 2. But has a lot of value as a backup.

Names appear as kids make decisions, so you'll see many appear in next few weeks. Good recruiters track kids they know or formally recruited & are aware of who is a potential transfer from conversations with people associated with the player. I know of no limit on the number of grad transfers.

Re: SJU, I sense they are interested in a grad transfer big.

I hope they all stay. Even Alimagrawawitz. No doubt Lovett > Missini. But at some point the roster churn has to stop.

A blind man could see the huge progress made by Ellison from freshman to sophomore season. Many a win would not have occurred without him.
Other than that thanks for stating the obvious to the blind on this board.
Never mind the fact that his father is a well respected high school coach in New Jersey where the majority of our prime targets over the next two recruiting classes reside.

Really appreciate your concern for my emotional well being, which has taken a huge hit after suffering through the Norm and Lav years.

I agree with you. If we're being honest, without Ellison we wouldn't have beaten Butler this year.

please...lets not dissect Ellisons game. He had 3 great games...should we talk about the games he made crucial errors? Lets not go down that road. My take is he is a great "Role player" like many on this team.

I am nothing if not the master of the obvious. Ellison has size and some skill and something of a pedigree. If his skill set ever converges on his opinion of his skill set he'll be something to see. And even if he doesn't he will have had three years in the program and the culture and the system and on the court, which is three years more than most of them - except Amar, and he doesn't count because he still has the stink of Lavin on him. It's highly unlikely that anyone they bring in is going to be better than Ellison. He is though without a doubt the dumbest coach's son in the history of organized basketball. He is astoundingly lacking in court and situational awareness. But as I said elsewhere, sometimes the light goes on no matter how dim the bulb. In Ellison's case even if it doesn't there's only two more years to suffer through.

Wasn't Lavin the son of a coach?

Lavin was smart enough to play basketball at a low level and then give it up in favor of playing a bimbo on television, at which he excels. So at least he was smart enough to understand his limitations. Which if Ellison ever understands that, he might amount to something.

I forget if he was. I can however remember Monte calling him a son of a bitch on numerous occasions on this site :)
