Lets assume Lovett comes back next year. Is there anything to prevent a European team from offering him a nice contract next Dec or Jan, for instance, and him jumping at it then? Just wondering what restrictions, if any, there are for this type of situation in season.

Players can leave anytime they want. They can leave 2 days after the season starts. FWIW ,I don't think Lovett would leave mid year.

I don't think so either, but amongst the far-fetched things that have happened around here over the last 15 years, a kid leaving in the middle of the year to sign a pro contract wouldn't rank anywhere near the top of the list.
