Long Beach St game thread

A few fans saying DeA had a bad game
I thought he played under control - someone likely observed that already but just leaving the game & haven't read all prior posts
Obvious at game was Zendon but I got to chat with Tomas Jasiolionis & Toja Abit who played early 2000s for Norm I believe
Abit very bright and says he's having a successful acting career - he added his mother was from the same country as Chrus Obepka

All the best

Ahhh 17pnt win. much better 2nd half team it looks like.
OIbekpa 16pnts 8boards 6blcks and 2 steals
Dom 11pnts 7boards 7assts 2stls and 3 Blcks
DLo 9 and 10boards.

KU lost by 25 to Temple should pass them.

WE ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tough audience tonight played poorly won easily, that folks is the sign of a good team. In fact a very good team. Just try and enjoy this season. It is turning out they are better then we expected

Thankfully, we have great D. Because our offense is below par. Hard first half to watch.

But we've become a better second half team so there's always hope no matter the first half score. Have we had a poor second half yet this season - perhaps

Dee didn't take many shots , but he had 10 rebounds. Dom another well rounded game. Branch good game w efficient offense. Greene took a lot of shots , seemed to improve 2nd half of game . CO; a real defensive presence w an offensive game that is night and day from last year.Excellent D.

Very good win tonight!! They gutted it out without Rysheed and with D-Lo not having a good game. That shows something against a LBS team that's not bad. They played Texas close at Texas.

CO had by far his best game of the year and seems to becoming more comfortable and confident offensively. Especially with the mid range jumper. If we gets consistent with that watch out. Dom was Dom again good all around game, played tough as nails. Phil got hot again in the second half just like in the Cuse game although not in such a short span. Point being, he came through in the second half when we really needed him. He's been a real clutch player this year. Branch had an excellent all around game. His on ball defense was very good and resulted ina few steals for layups. The only issue I have with Branch is that, moving forward he's going to have to shoot the ball a little more from the outside to make the rest of his game effective. He has a decent shot he just never takes it. Defense's are going to start to lay off him big time which is going to make it harder and harder for him to facilitate the offense. He's going to have to make the opponent respect his ability to make an outside shot a little bit.

All in all it wasn't our best game by far but like I said they gutted it out and got the win by a large margin. Our defense was superior all night especially CO, Dom and Branch. We have great hands on defense extremely active and we had a hand in their face on most of their 3pt looks which is usually our weak spot. Congrats again to this team and the staff.

One thing I will say is that even though D-Lo had a poor night offensively his ability to rebound the ball as a guard is unparalleled in the college game. That's all blood, guts and heart!

Dead on re: Harrison. He had a bad shooting night, but did not force things, or seem the least bit concerned about getting his points. He has transformed himself into a rebounding guard, and makes sure he is under the defensive boards and battles for every R. His defense was superb as well. Take out the poor shooting night, and I give him an A to A+ tonight.

Just glanced at some posts. Was greatly relieved to hear that Jordan has a stomach virus. I was feeling queasy myself thinking a disciplinary DNP at the end of a semester could mean he'd be out of here in January. How do you spell relief? V-I-R-U-S. Lots of words I could have put in there for a stomach virus.

CO - the man. Two outside shots, including one big one late from the left corner. Quickly becoming an offensive threat. Straight up defense improved radically and STILL is a shot swatter. The Big O.

Kudos to Lavin for resting his starters a lot during the first half, keeping them fresh to log a ton of second half minutes. Looking smarter and smarter. Reminds me of the old Mark Twain description of his dad when he was 17 and again at 21.

Defense is heart, effort, teamwork and can be there every night.

We held both St. Mary's & LBS under 50!!!

Against St. Mary's: Greene & Jordan 3-20, 11 total pts.
Against LBS: Harrison & Jordan 3-8, 9 total pts.

And we win both games going away.

So, so damn sweet!

There may be, probably will be some more games like this. But there are also going to be some when we're really clicking on offense and we're gonna blow someone out by 40.

Can't believe the vast improvement in our defense, athleticism has finally paid off. Our team leading scorer was overplayed all game, yet played under control. Obviously not worried about his scoring average - a true team leader.
Any potential high schoolers at this game?

Great effort all around by the team and staff responding to harrison's off noght / foul trouble and the absence of Jordan. I think its become abundantly clear that Lavin is more comfortable (and better) coach with a shorter rotation.

Great defense tonight by obekpa, pointer, and certainly branch.

I mirror harrison's comment they mentioned on the broadcast tonight: it may not be the most talented team he's been on at SJU, but its the best team.

No question about that.

Crowd looked great from what I could see on tv.

Was the game sold out?

Biggest crowd at CA this season. Not a sell out, but getting closer. Lot of first timers there. Word is getting around.

Yes, Shamorie Ponds and Unique McLean.

No Jordan, an off offensive night for Harrison (although 10 rebounds!) and we still beat this team by almost 20 points. We are going to kill Seton Hall.

Obviously phenomenal game by Obekpa. Branch gave us really good minutes and Green gave us the offense we needed. Good job by Pointer and Harrison not forcing. Both just played their game confidently and let the game come to them. DH did a nice job on the boards rather than heaving up a bunch of unnecessary shots.

Our defense was the best its been all season tonight. We played tough inside, got many hands in the passing lanes and played decent on the three point shooters. Our offense had enough to pull away in the second half without us having to sweat it out, which was all the more impressive with the shorter rotation without Jordan. This team continues to improve and is a lot of fun to watch. I can't wait until the next game. Love these guys.

The defense just looked really confident. Not cocky just efficient and businesslike. Second game in a row where the opposing team's big looked ready to cry at the end...
