Lavin

As many excuses as you think Lavin had Norm had 100 times more for someone who accomplished nothing in professional life other than being a good assistant. And Jarvis was plain arrogant to some

I had almost forgot how many excuses Norm would make after every, single loss (and, there were many..... losses and excuses). He also started doing too much whining on the sidelines. Jarvis came off too much like a goody two-shoes. Mahoney couldn't coach his way out of a wet, paper bag. His time at St. John's, other than his first season, felt like being cooped up in a water torture cell.... Horrible.

I'm a Redskins fan, and Norv Turner and Jim Zorn were the pits. Turner had the same freakin' spiel after each loss (paraphrase).... "What we do works." Hearing him say that was like listening to Roseanne Barr attempt to sing. He never really seemed confident, IMO, either. I said my piece a time or two once he was gone, then moved on.

Some folks act if they're jealous of Lavin or something. Did Lavin piss on some of y'all's ride? Banged your woman or someone you would've liked to banged? quote]

Maybe Rico banged their women. LOL :)

Rico wiped out the recruiting budget for hookers.

Why consult with a therapist or priest when you can deal with issues here? 5 pages on the ex, let's make it 10! :)

Next coach should be Hillary Clinton. At least we know we will begin with at least half of our fans hating and distrusting her.

What would it take for Mullin to leave here hated as much as Jarvis, Lavin and Norm are? Is it even possible?
If after this season he states this was just harder than I thought it would be, I am not doing this anymore. Would that do it?
Three or 4 years of Norm like seasons?
Reading a book on scorers table while game is going on? That would probably do it for Maher.
Picking a random fan out of the stands to draw up the final play?
Giving the players goofy nicknames, contracting a serious disease and then talking about said disease would probably send Fun over the edge.
Hope we never find out but interesting question. For me anyway

Impossible question. Mullin is loved here. If it doesn't work out, we should mostly be appreciative that he tried.

I nominate this post as the funniest, wittiest post of the year! I laughed out loud reading this. Thank you!

yeah the book on the scorer table would do it for me unless the book was on how to diagram plays in the huddle so your young assistant doesn't have to do it or how to sit next to the assistant in the huddle giving the impression you are part of the process :)

Then I'd be cool with that book :)

Ouch!

Another uneeded thread on our controversial former coach turns in some pretty good laughs

Nice job.

Now can we all move on

I hope we have a nice season next year. That way, I don't have to deal with any more arguments about Lavin. I agree, it's time to move on.

Lavin goes on FAN and discusses his time here and the current state of our program, which he left in shambles less than a year ago, and some of you guys are telling me that's not fair game for commenting (positive, negative or neutral) by our fanbase? Yeah, ok.

At what point do we stop blaming Lavin, and start blaming St. John's who brought Lavin here? Had the "committee" done their homework, they could have easily vetted him and figured out he was a lazy recruiter and had numerous shortcomings as a coach, outside of being a good guy and very well spoken.

Come on Monte, "share the sugar"! :)

the thing is the committee did their job. We had the single best season in a long long time his 1st year. His first real recruiting class we got the best class I can ever remember us getting.

Then he got Gathers then he got cancer and things went downhill

Cant fault the committee for that. If I had to do it all over again based on who was available I'd still have hired Lavin.

Again it's not like they hired Norm which was a bona fide disaster. Even Jarvis and Mahoney I don't blame them for hiring

Lavin wants to knock Monte's chicklets out :)

What part of Lavin being a failure at rebuilding the once proud men's basketball don't you understand?

The TV Announcer was paid a reported $2M+ per year yet during his last 3 seasons he compiled a mediocre Big East record of just 28 wins and 24 losses.

A 28/24 record is not a favorable ROI for the $6M+ investment.
