Come on down M. Mathis

Where are all the people that want us to pass on a 3-year Big Ten starter?
Is your’s the only opinion here? Lol

I leaned to Greg, but felt it was a close call, but Mathis is a good player who defends.

I think he chose a good school that’s close to home where he will get good minutes Paultz. That said, I think the level that both two are being recruited at as transfers does say something.  Everybody has opinions of course and I meant it tongue in cheek.   Good luck to him.

Really bummed to see Greg leave but we are doing pretty good in this crazy environment.  I felt very gloom and doom but after stepping back feeling we should come out okay.

Anybody still think that "list" which included schools like LSU was real?
His dad said it was, said all 23 schools that Zach listed yesterday had offered.  He also gave himself away as the "source" that gave the list by arguing with a fan about the list on Zach's tweet minutes after Zach posted the list.  It was kinda funny.

I know some people are going to take this the wrong way and get onto me for what I'm about to say,  I understand Greg was a great kid off the court and great ambassador for the school, I'm not taking any of that away, I agree 100%.   But, I thought Greg's situation was turning into too much drama for what he brought on the court.

Soon as he elected to transfer, his dad puts out the statement that Greg wanted to see his worth and talks about how loyal he's been to St. John's, then they put it out there that he could possibly come back and get fans excited, then all of a sudden his dad gives Zach a huge list of all these top tier high major schools that's supposedly recruiting him, and any of us that follow basketball recruiting know he didn't have a legit offer to all of those schools, then the next day he commits to Louisiana in the Sun Belt conference, and the whole thing they are saying now is he just wanted to go home and play for the home town school and dad's alma mater, if that was the case why not just go there immediately, instead of taking weeks to make a decision and taking over 10 zoom calls, you don't take 10 zoom calls if all you wanted to do was go home.

It's obvious that he seen his worth among high major teams (the original statement his dad put out) and in the end it wasn't what he thought and he went with the place that offered him the most playing time and a chance to be the feature player,  I have no problem at all with that, but don't string along your former school, and put a list of all these schools like your trying to flex how important you are the day before you know your going to announce, it's a complete overkill.

Duke of Earlington popped for Samford

I hope the optimists are right and this transfer season propels us to greatness next year.

But a team is the sum of its parts and not fantasy basketball.

So I don't care what level of bball Rasheem, Marcellus or Greg have ended up at.

I just know that for a stretch, they were an integral part of a team that played some of the best basketball this starved program has seen in years.

And they will be missed.

A homeless guy living in a box under the overpass down the block is dialed into the local scene, and he told me it is indeed Samford!

For several reasons, I am really sorry to see Greg go.  In my opinion, he's exactly the type of four year, upperclassman you want.

I wish him luck back home and I wish us luck finding a comparable talent.

What does it say that all the kids that have left so far have transferred down.  Waaaaaaaaay down.

San Diego, lafyette and robert morris??????  Ive never even heard of these schools.

It tells me that Mullin and Matt's recruiting wasn't great lol.

In all seriousness, these kids were Big East material but not starters. They went to a place they felt comfortable and could play starting minutes and shine. No shame in that.

That's true, but it's also true that the players who left have all transferred down from the Power 6 level and the players who have been added are either legitimate Power 6 players (Wheeler, Nyiwe, hopefully Mathis) or guys who outperformed at good mid mid-majors (Smith)

So unless you think the departing players' contributions had nothing to do with the staff's development and usage of them, I'd feel pretty good about the prospect of having apparently higher-levem players in the program than the ones who are gone.

Loved having them here, but college players leave sooner or later, one way or another, and the challenge for this staff was to raise the overall talent level of the roster. I think they're doing that. More work to be done in the portal and recruiting, but there always is

First we lose the duke of earlington to san diego.  Then my source gives me bum info on cardet.  Now the duke of edinburgh passes away.

Its been a rough week for Dukes.

Let's hope Nwiye is good, but no proof he is a legit Power 6 player.  Just signed by power 6...

As for moving up or  down high / mid major  more often its all relative.

With notable exceptions, Hi performers at low/mid will now produce at high, and under performers at hi, will more than likely put up bigger #'s when moving down.

He passed away a week ago. Your google is definitely broken

If he can play with a motor I think he will do well there. Because his combo of size and athleticism isn’t something you see a lot of in that league.

Did JR check the academic credentials of his head coach before committing?
This is important.
