Landing Spots for SJU Transfers

Question about "transfer portal".  Since McGriff and Cole have not moved on yet can they return, similar to those testing the NBA?  If Champ does move on, would that open more time for Cole at the 3 and McGriff might be the backup PG/ballhandler answer.

I would think that the program has moved on and has no desire for either of these 2.

Yes, they could return otherwise there wouldn’t have been two weeks of speculation of will he or won’t he along with discussion on the pros and cons of Greg Williams possibly returning to St. John’s after he entered the portal.

As far as more playing time for Cole or Mcgriff if Champ doesn’t comeback, with what is already here, no for Cole and I don’t think the other ball handler is on the roster yet but will be someone other than McGriff.

You are partially right, SJU85. To clarify, yes, it is possible that they could return. However, once a player opts to enter the transfer portal and in essence become a free agent, the school that they have been attending is not obligated to "hold" their scholarship. If McGriff and/or Cole were to decide they want to return to St John's, CMA could decide not to take them back, even if he has scholarships available.

So, there is some risk when a player enters the portal. In the game of musical chairs that we are playing, it is possible that he may/may not end up with a scholarship when the music stops.
