Kyle Anderson PG (UCLA)

That's correct but who cares.

In other words SJU wanted a big 2 guard regardless of a connection to Kyle (Reinhardt or Wood).

They took Wood on his own merits. The fact that he plays AAU ball with Kyle is an added plus but not important.

SJU wants Kyle for a different reason and his recruitment is based on that.

I still don't think he'll go to UCLA but I won't be comfortable until this thing is over.

Marcus, I have to agree with you. I know this afternoon when I first saw the tweet about the two guys combining their talent at UCLA put a chill through me. Sept. 20 can't come fast enough.

I think he'll be No. 1 when the final rankings appear. And it's been way too long since we signed the No. 1 guy in his class.

Who was the last?

I agree, LJSA. I just posted the same over on JJ.

Otis is correct that the last number 1 player in his class whom we signed was Felipe Lopez.
However, it should not be for gotten that Alan Iverson did not play his senior season as a result of a fight I believe in a bowling alley which turned very ugly.
Had Iverson played I believe he would have been number 1 in the class.

2012 St. Anthony (NJ) star Kyle Anderson will visit Georgetown, Seton Hall & St. John's next week.

Correct, I believe he was accused of hitting someone with a chair. I never knew he was a top quarterback as well. They said he could have been the original Mike Vick.

While I am certainly not a KA authority, I've now seen him 4 times (though only once in person), and feel like I have enough of a sample to report this observation. He is the last guy down the court on D almost every possession. Admittedly, the last two times I have seen him on TV have been in all-star-tournament-type events where defense is hardly stressed, but he doesn't appear to even run the floor after an offensive possession. We applaud him for his methodical approach on offense but seem to dismiss the flip side - what seems to be lazy defense to the naked eye. Where does he fit in our system defensively?

Smalley, you make a good point. Lots of kids have to get better on d as will Kyle, to earn minutes at the next level. Can't be a defensive liability. He's not totally unathletic, he just drags quite a bit on defense. Harkless does too. That stuff is what college coaches get the kids ready for. They will have to put s lot more effort into it at the next level at both ends of the court.

That struck me almost immediately. The guy has the talent to make 100 of millions of dollars in the sport so he had better break that habit now.

Kyle has great hands on d and rebounds the ball very well. He also has exceptional length. All of that will help him in our zone, but there is no excuse for not getting back on d. Whatever school he chooses will get that out of him.

In an all-star game format he lags behind sometimes because when the initial rush is thwarted he can then get the ball back and setup shop at the top of the key.

And as you mentioned it's an all-star game where there is no defense and hustle is used arbitrarily.

Putting him and his length in Lavin zone is scary. Did you see how active down low he was last night?
