Kentucky game thread

Are we going to have to put up wit these DT patches for another season? One game is enough, we don't need to wear them for another whole season. I know last year it was ET, but this is getting excessive.

Some terrible losers on this site.

This has nothing do do with the end score, but rather the teams uniform. But rathe the patches that the team will have to wear for another season. If they put a patch for Lavin I would be all for it, but the taffners are donors not affiliated with the basketball team.
 Not affiliated a field house

Are you kidding me? Lavin is alive, why does he need a patch? The Taffners donated millions of their hard-earned money and we may be toiling in the MAAC without people like them and Repole. A small patch is the least we could do to honor the legacy of great people who are the lifeblood of the program.

Because paying respects to the man who funded the practice facility shouldn't last more than a game. I'm amazed at people sometimes.

Im amazed that we put a patch on our basketball jersey for a donor. Have you ever seen any other D1 program do that? I respect and appreciate the taffners and am fine with acknowledging their contributions by other means, and am even ok with wearing the patch for a game or two. But back to back entire seasons is a lot to wear a patch for a non basketball program / student body or faculty member is a very long time. To be honest one of the things I looked forward to was not having to wearing the patches all season this year.

If we're going to wear a pacth it should be for Lavin not a donor, period.

Gift played well tonight, I,too think Greene should play more ,we need all the help we can get with our outside game.

4-4 after the first 8. I penciled us in at 5-3 so not all that different. We need to start a streak against Detroit and carry it into BE play. getting garrett, later this month is going to be hugh. we just dont have enough bodies, we play 6 men w/stith carrying a few minutes.

Any updates on Amir? Laquinton Ross was just cleared at OSU for 2nd semester, so a decision should be coming soon I suppose

A few final comments... Harkless needs to be more aggresive and call for the ball more.. His game right now has too much finesse and he got way too many shots blocked.. he needs to become a better shooter too..His talent is big as Dickie V said.

Lindsay still, in my opinion is not a true point and his game is all 1 dimensional, go to the hoop .. tonite they were ready for him and he was totally ineffective offensively.. He has no jumper at all.. A Hardy he is not.

As others have said, this group is too small as constructed currently and needs a inside presence next year. that plus a real shooter.

Harrison ,Pointer, Greene are all good not great players. The more I see of GG , the more I see Anthony Glover, which is a compliment as I liked AG A LOT.

Agree as to Pointer, Harrison, and Greene and Harkless is only a good player. 5 TO and at least as many shoot blocked tonight.

Kentucky is as young as we are.. Their youngsters were simply better than ours at every position.

Greene started and played almost the entire game-- how much more time do you think he needs to get?

we need someone that can shoot the ball

If you could go back and pick any player you want over the last 40 years of St. John's history except for Ron Rowan, Mullin, Bootsy Thornton and maybe Hardy, and add them to this roster, you still wouldn't have a serious 3 point threat. Recruiting shooters just isn't a St. John's thing. Please don't tell me Wille Shaw. That would be a marginal choice.

I still don't understand why our players wore patches over their eyes. Didn't it enter into any of the staff's heads that they just wouldn't shoot well with a patch over their eyes? At least now I know what went wrong tonight.

Kentucky's youngsters are better then any NCAA team. In fact they are as good as some NBA teams.

Secondly they returned Lamb and Jones and Darius Miller off the bench. Lamb is a former 5 star recruit and Jones is a surefire NBA top 10 pick and probably an early favorite to be the SEC POY. SJU returned Malik Stith.

Two of their stars are sophs in Jones and Lamb and have played at UK a year. They are not as young nor inexperienced as we are. Our team has only a spot-duty guard in Stith who even saw a D1 court last year and barely. They have two star starters who played a full season and Darius Miller as their 6th man in addition. Aside from that, UK not playing with half a team depth-wise, and not missing 3 of their star recruits. Big difference if SJU had Pelle and Sampson at 6'10" and 6'9" to match up with Davis and Jones. Would have helped us a ton.

Yes, we lost by 22 at Rupp! So have the last 32 teams that played there over the past three years.
Yet, to win by that margin Calipari had to play his top six for almost 37 minutes.
GG had a double-double against the best front line in college basketball and without Davis this could have easily been a single digit loss.
Even though Harkless also had a double-double he coasted for much of the game and let GG do the heavy lifting.
it is obvious Nurideen has never played point guard and he has a long ways to go but shooting ZERO % is inexcusable. Played with no court awareness and stalled the offense as only Stith knows how to do.
All in all, a good loss and if Amir becomes eligible, we may not see a worse loss if Nurideen keeps learning and starts to keep the defense honest with an outside shot. If he does not, I agree his minutes will go to Phil G.

When you give millions of dollars to build a state of the art facility, you are a part of the program.

I still believe that this is a .500 or better team. Its only been 8 games, we have 3 very winnable games coming up and coud go into the BE season 7-4 which would be very respectable.

Lets not panic!!!

This could be a long season.

We are playing four freshmen, a junior college center who was recruited to be the back up to Pelle and a JC guard that barley played BB over the past three years.
The experience will be priceless and recruits will know they will get playing time next year!
I cannot remember a younger and less experienced SJ team over the past 30 years.
It can only get better.
Four of the Kentucky players will not be there next year.......we play them next year at the Garden we win. I truly believe that.

Nuri is still learning, but has not shown any outside shooting this year and had 5 TOs. Im beginning to think Greene should be the PG.
