Kentucky game thread

 this is a little off topic but how old are g.g. and nuri?

they are 20-21. But it is not the age, it is the lack of playing experience that actually puts pretty much on par with the freshmen that have been playing since grade school and in elite camps. Nurideen had not played competitive ball for two years prior to JC and GG started plying as a teen.

no need to make excuses for them i was just wondering because the thing with nuri they say he didnt play competetive ball for a few years then played 1 year as a juco. i didnt know if he played 4 years in high school and waited 2 years before going back to school. as far as g.g. he looks like he's 25. did he go to high school in the u.s.?

 From Zags article. Really bad quote to hear. We are supposed to have shooters and drivers.

“When they add guys that can give them some shooting, maybe some driving ability, I think you’re going to see a different team,” Calipari said of the Johnnies.

What shooters are we supposed to have outside of Harrison?

The one guy who drives the hoop (Nuri) was rejected a few times, called for a charge, was hammered with no calls and got in foul trouble.

Cal also called his team the worst offensive team in the country at halftime. Its all 'coach speak' aka BS

 Also relatively off-topic, but I'm watching Cuse and Florida... and as good as Kentucky was, there are teams out there who are going to give us fits. This is not going to be the year we shut up all the orange fans at MSG. And to me, losing in our building to them, and hearing a roar every time they score, is 10x worse than getting blown out on the road to a team like Kentucky.

No problem.
We'll have our ball boys sit on their bench,

  In the not too distant future, Kentucky's wins this season will be vacated, and this game will be a St. John's victory! :cheer:

You don't have to be optimistic just realisitic to sense we will get our share of "Ws" ; also as far as ballboys most of us do not like to see people or programs suffer - but I do not recall Syracuse or Penn State or fellow Big East members feeling sorry for us during our Jarvis-Roberts debacle epoch;

and did not the great Kentucky program have its difficulties not long ago?

Loyal long time Yankee fans suffered from what seemed a never ending drought circa late 1960s and late 1980s (in the late 1960s I was a cadet and the Yanks would play Army once a year in the Spring - got to see Mantle, Peterson, that team - that was one of three highlights and breaks from the stress of life at West Point)

one other "highlight" was singing in the Glee Club, appearing on Ed Sullivan and MSG when Bob Hope and cast opened the place;

and finally - as a college basketball fan (used to love listening to NYU Violets over the radio reaching the Final Four) over college football - seeing Mike K. and Bob K. first hand for my four years! How great was that!

all the best and I am thrilled with what we have going under Lavin :cheer:

PS sorry about all (too much?) the personal stuff

Everyone is essentially saying the same thing.  This game in some ways was a heavy dose of reality. We got spanked by the best team in the country, if not the best, surely a top 5 team, by only 20 points in their own building. While Lavin recruited 9 guys mostly rated in the 50-100 range, yielding one of the top recuiting classes, UK routinely can recruit in the 1-25 range. They are where we may be headed. Lavin may not take us to being consistently a top 5 program, but I think we all believe he can return us to prominence, where we are once again a staple in the top 20. Getting there is a process, and this class is a wonderful first step. Remember, when Lavin started the process, he was starting with guys ranked closer to 100. In future seasons, he will be signing recruits in the top 50. It remains to be seen if we can recruit in the elite ranks of college basketball, where schools like UK, Kansas, Duke, UCONN, and a few others consistently lie. Even to be in the next tier will be amazing. For now, we are what we are, and that's an amazing improvement to be here so quickly.

For this season, our fair share of W's is going to be low. We are literally starting at the beginning, no significant returning players, a blank slate. It's almost unprecedented in major college basketball. Consider that just a few years ago, when we were losing to the likes of St. Francis, that this could have been a 50 point blowout.

 Have seen a few comments here that the UK fans were the nice, accomodating, etc. Wonder if they were well behaved since they knew SJU wasn't going to give them much of a game. And wonder if fans of the Florida Gators, or this weekend's UNC fans will

They were all nice b4 the game also

Nice to hear you, Jersey Guy and the others were there as diehard redmen!
The Kentucky fans are a mature fan base that also has the resources to travel well with their team.
In the Lexington area it is God, family and Kentucky basketball.....not necessarily in that order:)
I know they have a great team with at least 4 future pros but I think with Jakarr, Norvel and Amir this may have been much closer.

On to the Motor City!
  Fan base was older but no joke today we were drinking with their student fan base as they camped out for tomorrows game.

We brought them beer and cups and they adopted us as their own.

Funniest line of the day was Traczok asking them if they were part of " occupy Lexington " LOL
They were real good kids and you just might see me tomorrow in their student section in one of the 1st couple of
rows

Maher, you are one wild and crazy guy! LOL!!!
  Yesterday was fun. I'll put a picture up this week of all of us hanging out with the students camping out for the Carolina game.

Unfortunately my girlfriend was flying back today so I had to bring her to the airport so by the time I got to the area where the kids were camping out they had already entered Rupp.

The cheapest ticket I could find was for $350 and I wasn't going to pay that so I'm back at the hotel watching the game.

We saw Rasheed Wallace last night at dinner as he was in for the game
