Kansas St., Sat., Dec. 7, 11:30am, FOX

7 man bench. Ruben over Dunlap.
How many would you play?
Brady only played 4 minutes in the 2nd half.
Which is plenty. To the poster who laughed at my 7 man rotation, we currently have 7 guys averaging 10 minutes or more a game. One of those players is Dunlap @ 17 mpg. Give those minutes to Prey, who's only averaging 6 mpg, and there's your 7 man rotation. Nobody tires and our chances of winning increase exponentially.

He laughed because you said we had a 7 man bench which taken literally means we bring in 7 men off the bench when you probably meant to say we have a good seven man rotation.

Emotional day yesterday, 17 point win, I logged on here and found the usual squabbling followed by the usual digressions into past players.

Setting aside the Louie aspect of things, to me the first half was a case of shots (including easy ones) not falling (at one point we were shooting 25%) and nobody doing a good job of defending Hausen. I figured both of those things would change in the second half and we would be fine, which is what happened.

What shut down Hausen in the second half was Dunlap, who is also the only player in the floor who knows all of the plays and often has to direct others to where they're supposed to be. He hurt his thumb in the middle of the second half but by then Hausen was done and Sim did a good job taking over for Brady on Hausen down the stretch.

I remain of the opinion that Sim is going to make y'all eat your words before it's over.

Kadary is starting to look more like himself, for some reason his shot is not dropping at the rim which is bizarre but that will change. And when he fills the lane it makes things work for everyone else.

Zuby was obviously a monster.

It still seems to me that the staff is coaching this team hard and that the only two who are receptive to that old school approach are Richmond and Dunlap. Even guys like Zuby and Wilcher do not seem thrilled although it was less visible this week. Hopefully winning is the best perfume going forward.

Dunlap didn’t start the second and played less that 5 minutes that half. With respect, it was not him.

Yes - Pitino started Sim instead of Brady in the second half. I'm thinking of Dunlap's second stint in the first half and his play in the second before he got hurt and came out.

I do wish a few of his shots would fall, both for his confidence and so some folks here would chill out. I think he is a good shooter, but I also think he gets in his own head a lot.

Pretty sure the injury happened last possession of the first half when we gave up a 3. He did have a real nice defensive stand late.

Agree 100% with your second point

Just to be clear, the only ST John’s players I have disliked either were chuckers, didn’t hustle or played point guard at a pace that felt like you were going backwards while dribbling too much or dribbling in a circle.

Dunlap is none of those things. Kid plays as hard as he can.

My issue is with people continuing to claim he is a good shooter. I just don’t understand what this could possibly be based on. Nothing in his year and a third here would suggest he is or will ever be a good shooter.
Lifetime percentage is not good nor his mechanics. Shoots a line drive that would make Juan Soto jealous.

So unless Dunlap is showing up at certain posters houses and shooting the lights out in their backyard. I don’t get it.

Hey and if that is the reason, then I am ok with it. As a kid I watched Steve Shurina shoot 100% in pre game warmups. Never translated in the limited mins Lou gave him though.

I think the expectations of his shooting has to come down. He can be a fan favorite, four year guy who’s a consummate glue guy who sets good picks, grabs some rebounds, make some heads up passes, helps organize the offense and plays sturdy defense, and does other random things game to game.

His shot needs to improve so he can provide space and keep defenses honest. If teams don’t respect it, it’d be hard for him to make a big impact or garner the minutes I’m sure he wants.

But I do think he’s a winning player. We luckily have five really good ones right now, with others potentially emerging.

It’s interesting that many believe the team had a better second half cause they played better? Could it also be cause of who was and was not on the court when the second half started?

Think about it….Dunlap replacing Smith or Wilcher in the first half was a clear mistake. Less ball movement, less passing and at this point in time way less offensive punch. Got to wonder what’s in Ricks head? He has a lightning quick guard who actually shoots better then Dunlap bringing way more energy on the court watching from the sidelines while a one dimensional Dunlap is not performing well with his one dimensional skill.

This team can’t afford “slow starts” come Big East play and especially on the road. Coach and staff better figure this out.

Our defense wasn’t good and I think Dunlap did a bad job on Hausen the first half. But I also think our offense created a lot of good looks that we didn’t hit on.

I do think we need to ride with Smith/Kadary/Scott/Luis/Zuby for 30+, and hope Sim/Prey/Glover can emerge as next ones up.
