Very difficult to get a gauge on individual defensive metrics. Both EvanMiya and BartTorvik try it but have conflicting results so far this season.

Evan Miya has something called DBPR which has Deivon as the 6th best defensive player on the team out of the 8 guys that have played at least 100 possessions.

Bart Torvik has DBPM which has Smith first on the team.

The general consensus among CBB data nerds is that Evan Miya’s individual player defensive metrics are most accurate but idk if I agree

I don't think many are tossing him overboard. Just opining on how he's performed so far. I think he will be a fine player here, with a limited role, if he stays. But your point about recruiting and being recruited over is what leads to me to be concerned about guys like Glover and Wilcher in particular, if they do not see enough PT. Look at Zuby, who was recruited over at Kansas, and came here and is now excelling for us.
also interesting now that the smoke has cleared, storr was essentially traded for Zuby. I haven't followed KU closely but seems close to win-win, maybe the edge goes to having a skilled big man as opposed to the more common wing player.

Getting a competent, developing big like Zuby trumps adding a wing imo. The market on latter is much more fertile, not to mention Zuby seems more of a team first guy in this comparison.

I can see Dunlap having a limited roll somewhat in the future with the key word “limited”, just like his game. Perhaps he becomes the shooter we all hope he will be, knocking them down from three but what else does he brings to the table? Can he or will he be able to create his own shot? Can he or will he be able to laterally defend stretch 4’s or 3’s? I don’t even see how he fits in Pitino’s style of play.

Now let me preface all this by saying I like the young man, think he’s a team first guy, never complains and am sure he’s a great team mate but hoping he becomes a more complete player with time then he is right now may just be wishful thinking.
