Jordan Status?

Uh-oh, it's now public and gaining steam. He'd better not show up at a Rosie O'Donnell concert or a Liberty game.

What is gaining steam? The fact that he used the street slang common to young people these days? Where do some of you live? Have you walked the halls of any inner city schools? Who was this language offensive to? A friend he was rapping with in Philly? Why are people who are sensitive to teens verbal expressions following him on Twitter? I am for freedom of expression as much as gay and lesbian rights but the fact remains that unless you are advertising that you are taking it up your wazoo in public or wearing a gay or lesbian button every day, no one would know or care about your sexual preferences. If we are so intent on defending unnatural acts of humans where do we draw the line? Bestiality? No offense Beast! Sado masochism? Sorry to all redmen fans! The only obscenities that should be discussed here are the last few losses to inferior opponents because we have been playing like bitches on the men's basketball team.

Hey... go pick up your dentures you just spit out. It was a joke.

You just reminded me of another fetish for the older crowd here which I'm sure was in your subconscious when you mentioned dentures - the women who take out their dentures to give you a bj. B)
redmen.com reaches new lows when people start talking about Granny Porn :)

I wonder witch gay member of Redmen sold him out

I post with my real name, so you can make your remark at me. B)

This isn't exactly secret stuff. While yes, I was the first person to point out that Rysheed was posting what can be deemed as offensive tweets (he also posted a tweet that was racial/sexist in nature but took it down), I didn't give the story to anyone. It was seen by a mutual follower of mine and Outsports who then found the tweet, and it was picked up by Outsports. I am friends with both the person that picked it up and I know the writer as well.

I will own that I was the first person that tweeted about Rysheed's tweets and it likely got picked up because I found it and tweeted about it. But blame the person that tweeted what he did and the people that have likely enabled or allowed the behavior despite knowing he's a loose cannon. And next time you don't have to feel like you have info on Deep Throat. You may direct your post at me. :) :p

If it wasn't Super Bowl week Boomer would probably be talking about you reading sheed's tweets on the radio

@HowieKussoy: Before the Jordan tweet news, Lavin said today that Rysheed was a game-time decision bc of the knee. Haven't practiced since Creighton.

if he doesn't play maybe it will be because of a high twitter sprain

This hot chick may be right up your alley. She loves beer, wears redmen colors at games and removes her dentures in under 5 seconds for quickies! Don't knock it until you try it!

loooooool

I do not believe in social media bans that curtail an individual's rights to free speech. Every student on social media represents their school like it or not. Is the debate team banned? Students in a class action just won unprecedented compensatory rights from the NCAA. It won't be long before social media bans are decided by the courts when it comes to athletes.

Not at St Johns. 1st amendment only applies to government actors.

I just read an article on this situation and it said that the rules on Twitter had been "relaxed" by Lavin this year. So it was not a situation of selective enforcement. It did mention that the team is spoke to regularly about their responsiblity when social media.
We have become very sensitive as a society. I am sure a show like All in the Family could never make it to the screen in todays world. Even when it made the bigot look like a moron. This was 2 friends messing around, although the word is offensive and should not have been used by RJ to threaten a suspension or discipinary action, I believe, is taking it a bit to far. Hopefully he learns from this and better monitors his language.

I read your post a few times to make sure I understood your point. For certain, there is a selective set of rules of what can be said in the public arena. I would hesitate to even attempt to give any examples of this because the topic is incendiary. While this era may view itself as enlightened, some topics do not invite dialogue because we've lost our ability to converse about divergent opinion with civil discourse.

Use of social media by any college aged student is fraught with dangers. Prospective employers will search for facebook, twitter, instagram accounts of job applicants to learn as much as they can about their personal lives broadcast publicly. People have been dumb enough to post videos of assaults, underaged use of alcohol, use of illegal drugs, graphic photos of themselves, and questionable rants. Brighter college kids shut down or lock down their social media accounts when approaching the job market. It's a good idea, because many applicants turned down are never told that it was because they shared their intimate lives publicly on the internet.

Think of how many adults on redmen.com follow twitter. A decade ago, a well known st. john's player was facebook friends with one of my kids. For someone thrust into the public eye with no media savvy, using social media without reasonable restraint or better judgment is just foolish. It makes sense to have team rules about this, but they may be unenforceable for a school known for its limited infrastructure. It would make sense for SJU to monitor these accounts if they allow them exist at all. I'm not certain this is happening.

Silly me. I had no idea what outsports.com is:

Outsports is a California-based media company whose largest holding is Outsports.com. The company was founded in 1999 by Cyd Zeigler, Jr. and Jim Buzinski.[1] The Web site has served as a media watchdog, sports-entertainment provider and community builder since its founding.

The Outsports Revolution (Alyson Publications), by Cyd Zeigler Jr. and Jim Buzinski, was released in 2007. The book chronicles the development of the Outsports.com brand and its impact on the world of gay sports, covers the gay sports movement, introduces both famous and non-famous LGBT athletes, and examines various myths and controversies regarding gays and sports.[2]
Outsports was purchased by Vox Media in 2013, and incorporated into its sports website SB Nation. Buzinski and Zeigler retained editorial control and continue to operate the site.[4]

Silly me, I didn't think rawdog had anything to do with hot dogs.
Why do so many people seem to thrive on throwing our players under the bus?

Anyone in the know have any info whether he's playing?

Just heard St. John's released a statement with Jordan apologizing for his tweet with the "slur". It also said what he did violated the student code of conduct and team policy, but no disciplanary action was announced.

My guess is that means he is playing today. If he was too hurt to play, they would be suspending him for a game I'm quite sure.

Coach obviously sees the urgency to win. In the past, Jordan would have been suspended.

I'm not picking a fight with you, so don't think I am, but is your disclosure of this tweet have anything to do with the fact that you work for CBS Sports? Some could interpret your disclosure pf the Jordan tweet as either a deep personal affront, or to further your career, or both.

No, I don't even work full-time at CBS and if I wanted to further my career I would've given this story to someone at CBS or a reporter.

Here is my tweet from early Thursday morning:

RT @TheoRabinowitz
#sjubb player posting racial/homophobic/sexist slurs & challenging people to fights on Twitter. How lovely.

The Saunders basketball coach, who follows me and saw my tweet, found Rysheeds and posted it:

Outsports follows him and picked it up. In fact, I actually think the OTHER tweet that was posted was far worse than the gay slur one because he was actually challenging someone to a fight and used the b-word to describe his girlfriend and the n-word as well.

And to answer MrGoogle's question I don't find the word offensive myself but I do think it is extremely dumb for a public figure to use on social media.

Haha I don't envision that Rysheed or team #WhyNot will be throwing rose petals in front of me any time soon.
