Jordan Status?

I know what fag and gay mean. I even know what they translate to on the street: fag: pussy, gay: stupid.

But "ran train?" That I had to google image. Still don't understand where that left foot went.

It's either you guys are old or just lost touch with reality. Calling someone a f*g, g*y does not have to imply that he is ani-gay or whatever else you are accusing him of.
Is it politically correct? No. These guys are 18-20 years. Young, wild, and yes stupid as most of us were. Walk down the street today and you will hear friends calling each other a f*g, g*y. Please stop deciphering every single tweet a kid posts. I have a feeling some of you want the program to fail as much as it can instead of supporting it.

If you are dumb enough to use the word you are subjected to being called a homophobe. And please let's not compare the strife of gay people who still don't have equal rights to people who are overweight. Go back and read what you wrote to see how delusional/misinformed you are
"Strife of gay people who still don't have equal rights", pretty funny. Not sure what equal rights people that choose that lifestyle don't have but it seems like they are celebrated all over the media. Many act like it's not cool to be straight these days.

This is a joke, right?

I've hard gay people use the f** word to each other in anger. Is that the moral equivalent of blacks using the n word to each other but off limits to heterosexual men and women?

On the bright side I think we're getting CISsy back.

Kind of, some of my best friends are gay. :p

You could have just googled Dominic Artis.

Perhaps Jordan is lost at St. John's? All of the other key players are older and more mature.

Are the others more mature, YES

Older? ...less than a year younger than DLo, Greene, and Obekpa

Sheed Born: June 10, 1994
Greene Born October 24, 1993
D'lo Born August 8, 1993
Obekpa Born November 14, 1993

Can we please close this thread? This has gone way too far, and ended up being about nothing relevant to this basketball team.

You mean it didn't start with someone calling our basketball team "gay"? Ok, this is a sensitive subject for some people, and not for others, so I respect those who find those words hateful and ignorant.

The problem is that because of social media, way too many kids today seem to have no concept of having a filter. There are just some things that shouldn't be said in public, regardless of double meaning.

Full disclosure: I want to see equal rights across the board for homosexuals and I think it's a disgrace that in the 21st century it hasn't happened yet. That said . . . I will jump on any opportunity to land a gay zinger at a friend's expense. But even at my most immature moments, I do it when a bunch of us are sitting around a friend's house. I wouldn't use the word fag anywhere on twitter or facebook or in public or whatever Jordan did. And yes, I get that "fag" doesn't necessarily mean "fag" -- I'm only 43; it was that way when I was a kid too. But it's still something that should not be tolerated. It would be nice if the kid developed some sort of filter. Even 1 percent filter would be better than what he has.

You can ask him to demonstrate when he visits in March.

I understand many of you are older, so trust it coming from someone around these kids age. This isn't anything out of the ordinary. I'd actually be surprised to see someone not use these terms on Twitter these days. It's nothing to really think about and is seen all day on social media. These tweets are getting blown way out of proportion.

Take it from someone who has been around a while. There are plenty of young people that don't engage in offensive and classless social media banter. They eventually separate themselves and excel in maintaining strong personal and business relationships.

Can we get back on subject, or better yet, close the thread down!

Correct Frank! Jordan pulled his leg trick to use as an exuse to get out of practice and return to Philly to kick someone's ass. If he 100 % this weekend with a black eye we will know he lost the fight.

To me calling someone that homophobic slur gets you suspended. It's 2014 you ingrate bum. I'm gonna miss DLO, Dom and CO to an extent, but that;s not enough for me to bite my tongue saying I can't wait to clean house. Been an abysmal 4 years.

It's really funny though how the media gives a pass to famous liberals, such as Alex Baldwin, who have used homophobic slurs when challenging an adversary's manhood. It's flat out dumb to use social media for such language, and Jordan is far from the first person in the public eye to do so. However, if you were going to ban everyone who has ever used a homophobic slur in conversation from Redmen.com, I'd be willing to venture that there wouldn't be many users left standing. Not that it justifies using that sort of language, but more in the category of he who is without sins.

My guess is that calls for Jordan's exit is mightily hypocritical. Had we raced to a 6-1 big east start and beaten Duke with Jordan leading the charge, there would be more tolerant response.

If Lavin suspended Jordan for this behavior under those circumstances and in doing so, jeopardized the season's success, I'd bet the sentiment would be to boot Lavin, not Jordan.

Not defending Jordan nor Lavin. Jordan should hand over his password and suspend the account immediately, but the bigger outcry is fueled by losing.

Beast, I'm sure your intent was pure, but you do realize that your preceding paragraphs did exactly what you say at the end you don't want to do: namely defend Jordan and Lavin.

You point out that many of us have mistakenly used insulting language in the past. Probably true. But by pointing out that fact you're implying that it's common or easier to excuse, since it's a relatively common occurance.

Then you point out how fans would criticize Lavin if he were to suspend Jordan when we need him. Also probably true. But that's a justification for why it's understandable on some level not to punish Jordan so severely for this infraction.

You pretty plainly offered justification for both of them and then said you weren't defending them.

No hypocrisy. I am not inferring that he shouldn't be disciplined. What I am saying is that those of us who wish him gone, are wishing him gone from a 2-5 conference team that is in a tailspin right now. My point is that if we were ranked #10 let's say, there would be more folks defending his youthful indiscretion then calling for him to get booted.

@KieranDarcy: No change in Rysheed Jordan's status after doctor exam, per St. John's spokesman. Strained patellar tendon, day-to-day #sjubb

Interesting parallels:

"Rasheed has been unable to consistently live up to the standards required to be a member of our program," coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a release. "It is a privilege to represent Duke University and with that privilege comes the responsibility to conduct oneself in a certain manner. After Rasheed repeatedly struggled to meet the necessary obligations, it became apparent that it was time to dismiss him from the program."
