Jordan Status?

I like the NFL idea. If he puts on some weight, perhaps a tight end.

My post was not to say that Pointer would make the NBA but that he has more of a chance then Harrison(too slow),OB(too small to play center and not skilled enough to play forward) and Jordan( so far all potential).
Most likely none of the four will ever make an NBA roster.

In spite of flaws in their respective games, I still think CO, D'Lo and Jordan have a decent chance of sticking with NBA teams. Pointer may be the best athlete of the 3, but IMO at this point his game is the least suited for the NBA. Time will tell.

If Pointer just had a decent outside shot, he would be the best prospect on this team. That being said, I think he has the smallest shot out of those 4 players. It'll be interesting to see where these guys can get to the next few years.

I think he has a real good shot His shooting is not bad with Dlo and Jordan does not get many looks but when he does he seems to hit them Also he is bigger
defends much better rebounds better and is quicker and shoots his free throws well Only one persons opinion Is probably the most valuable player on this team Oh and fighting attitude is a plus

Periodically I check this thread to see if our point guard has gone on yet another walkabout.

But I see we're talking about Pointer's chances in the NFL, so all is right in the world. Thanks for the update.

Ha! I was thinking the same thing when I saw some recent action on this thread. Almost have to expect some kind of academic/leave-of-absence/hurt feelings "news" a couple days before the Duke game.

The calf was removed from his off campus apartment & is awaiting adoption at Jamaica Estates ASPCA.

Now, THAT was funny :)

IMO the SJU player with the best chance of making an NBA roster next year is Pointer.

I love Pointer, but it's shocking to me that after 4 years the man still has not improved his handle and literally cannot shoot a jump shot at all. Teams leave himm wide open and dare him to shoot and he won't. I have no insight, but I don't blame Lavin, I put that on Pointer for not putting in the time to improve.

Why do you assume that he has not put in the time? Dom doesn't strike me as a kid who doesn't work hard. While I don't think he's improved as much as some of us would have liked, there is no question that he's improved his game, especially from last year to this year.

Dom has improved because Sampson and Sanchez have gotten out of the way.

Our entire team is made up of good scorers who can't shoot including our guards. This team was born to run but the lack of another rebounder has nullified that strength. If only Thomas had not gotten that A in astrophysics and quantum mechanics at WCC we would be 15-3 and sitting in second place in the Big East as predicted in preseason. :(

I agree with Room 112. The coaching staff can only do so much. There comes a point where a kid has to take his own initiative and work on certain facets of his game offseason. Pointer is a 6'6 G/F, he has to know that the only way he plays at the next level is too become a consistent outside shooter. He should have been in the gym shooting 500 jumpers a day in the offseason. Shooting, like defense is something you can become extremely proficient at with practice.

Willie Glass, I agree didn't have a good jump shot either. The difference was that you guys like Mullin, Jackson, Moses, Rowan and even Berry and Shelton Jones to some extent that could shoot. So, Glass's his inability to shoot the ball was not that detrimental to the team. He was extremely good at what he did and it complemented the skills that everyone else on the team had and it was a perfect blend of skills sets on those teams. The issue with Pointer is that, although he has improved very much in certain areas of his game, his inability to shoot the ball consistently from outside is a detriment to this team because of the other players that are surrounding him. I'm not singling him out though, Branch is another guy who should have been taking 500 jumpers a day in the offseason. If Branch could just hit a jumper from the top of the key with some consistency it would open things up for immensely on the offensive end. Harrison is a good shooter but streaky, Greene is good but must be able to spot up and Jordan has improved since last year evidenced by the two big threes he hit at the end of the Marquette game. They were big time shots. Just my opinion.

Maybe he did put up 500 shots a day and he is still bad. Lack of confidence can be a very difficult thing to overcome.

That could be Simplyred, no one really knows for sure. That's true. It's wrong to assume, but, I someone of his athletic ability, if they were putting up 500 shots a day they would improve somewhat. But, you correct. Unless you're actually there no one knows for sure.

Some kids just never master the mechanics of shooting. A great example is foul shooting where some kids who have played since they were 6 cannot learn the form or release needed to make most shots not under pressure. There are grown men over 40 here that can make 60% from the line. Rather than confidence I think lack of concentration along with poor form are big factors. I am sure Rico works with the kids on free throws but not everyone can master zany yoga if your mind strays.
