Jordan Status?

Anyways I'm just gonna leave this tweet here once again for posters to see tomorrow morning. It already got pushed back to last page so here it is fellas waking up!

@NYPost_Brazille: Source confirms @JasonKingBR that Rysheed Jordan is rejoining #sjubb, could play Tuesday.

Great news. Thanks for posting the update Jack. Now, onto the Nova game.

Are any of you bashers ever going to learn your lesson and stop destroying our "kids" any chance you get. The same people were ready to give up on D'Lo, Obekpa, the 4th, SirDom. It has to be exhausting jumping on and off the bandwagon so often. Everyone was disappointed that we lost Jordan for a game and possibly more but some of the "fans" go way too far attacking our own players. We didn't have all the information but we knew his grandmother passed away. Have a little respect. They are just college kids for goodness sake, whether they stay or not they put in a lot more work and passion for SJU than it will ever give back to them.

I'm sorry but nonsense; if Jordan left for a game because his grandmother died, say it and EVERYONE would accept it and move on. But when the coach doesn't even know when he will return because he doesn't have enough info, people fill in the blanks. I don't know Jordan but anyone who has any real insight into the program knows this kid has been high drama, high maintenance since he came here. Your Pollyanish last sentence is almost comical; while some are, some are not just college kids - it is nothing more than a temporary stop until they can turn pro. Sampson last year sabotaged our season because by the time he decided to play a team game and not just look out for his own future all the advantages of early practice and the Europe trip had already been derailed. I feel for Jordan, but you don't solve your problems by going about it the way he is apparently handling them. Welcome him back, I don't - this has become too much a recurring theme from him. I do acknowledge the positive in him returning for Harrison, Greene, Pointer, and Branch; they do deserve it.

First off you make it sound like we have the right to know what goes on behind the scenes of this program. We do not. We are fans....no more and no less.

Secondly, where do you get off saying that they should and need to announce that the reason for him taking a break was the death of his grandmother? The death of a family member is a very personal and private thing, and should be treated as such, unless otherwise noted by the individual.

But you are right, I can't believe that Lavin and Jordan weren't thinking about how the posters on redmen.com would react with only having such little knowledge of the situation. Shame on them!!

Lavin didn't say too much because he, like Jordan, didn't really know what was going on or when/if Jordan would return. I'm sure Lavin didn't sit down with Jordan and be like, "Rysheed, I'm really sorry to hear about your grandmother........so when do you think you will be back with the team?" If it's one thing we know about Lavin it's this: he genuinely cares about his team, not just as basketball players, but as people as well. So the conversation was probably more like, "I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother, please take all the time you need and let me know if there is anything I can do for you and your family."

And his return probably was up in the air. Everyone reacts differently to situations such as these, and I'm sure the last thing on Jordan's mind was basketball....

I'm sorry, but to be upset that Lavin and Jordan didn't make a public announcement regarding the death of a family member is just downright rude and disrespectful.

SJU/Lavin would be a TV producers dream for a Hard Knocks type of show. Never a dull moment.

That would be a mildly plausible argument if not for Sheed,s history and well known reputation. I do agree with your assertion that Lavin and Sheed don't owe us an explanation, but then they also shouldn't be surprised or upset when speculation runs rampant.

No choice, he has to be in there vs nova for any chance.
Nevermind Rysheed, but why punish the seniors and CO? Plus, they'd all play 34minutes again.
The bench gives us nothing.

Where did it say that either one was surprised or upset about the rumors?

Where did I say that it said that either one was surprised or upset? All I said was that they shouldn't be. And if they're not, why should you be? And how do you know what Lavin knew/knows with regard to the situation? Re-read your post, because for someone who criticizes other posters for speculating you sure as hell do a lot of speculating there. IE "Lavin didn't say too much because he, like Jordan, didn't really know what was going on or when/if Jordan would return."

Curious to see if Sheed starts. Doubt it, but ya never know.

Was thinking same Monte. That would line up with all of our "drama", :) Sheed may not be in warm ups, but is carried out by Willis Reed right as starting player intros begin. Sorry, just punchy from all this.

Haha, I can see it now. Should be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out. Really hoping that Sheed, regardless of what actually happened, comes back with a "team first" mentality. That would be huge for our chances of not only making the tourney, but having a nice run in it. No matter what, I thankful we have him back.

Look, you are entitled to your opinion and you are obviously a Lavin supporter big time; you have every right to be. But IMO you have an excuse and rationalization for every incident this program endures, again your take. But when a prominent member of a high profile (as you like to say the 15th ranked team in the country) program cannot play there is a length of absence and reason given; injury, personal reasons, etc. None of that was available for whatever reason; in fact Lavin was quite forthcoming in that he didn't have enough "info" to even speculate on a return. Not Jordan has serious personal issues that leave his return open-ended, the COACH didn't even have enough information about what was going on to even speculate on a return. Now, miraculously, Jordan is returning after a one game absence; by the way, not the first time this has happened with this player. I manage a large group of people and one thing I always tell my staff is that if you do not communicate clearly people will fill in the blanks according to their take on the situation. So, while I agree Lavin and Jordan did not have to announce ALL the facts they certainly should have provided way more insight into what was going on then they did. Again, you take any and all individual incidents and rationalize them away and criticize those who choose to look at the larger, cumulative picture. And the cumulative number of negatives associated with Lavin's tenure speaks for itself. The ridiculously, embarrasingly lack of legitimate D1 players on this roster speaks for itself. The prospects for next year in which we may not even field an even marginally representative team speaks for itself. You have your opinion of my position and I have one concerning yours. I believe mine is developed examining facts and reality over the last 4 years, yours with blind loyalty all the while hoping for a fairy tale ending..

Agree. I think the upper class guys deserve a winning season & Jordan maximizes that. If he screws up again, I trust Lavin will have to deal with that.

HMM.. Jordan's return, negotiated under whatever terms, gives the team the 2nd scoring option that was sorely missed in both, SH and Butler games. Losing to the Hall proved to be a Road loss to a surprising PIRATE team, especially after Nova loss to them too. That was recoverable.

But, the Butler loss was very costly and regardless of JORDAN'S return , the BE season is still highly uncertain... Beating Nova, was problematic , even with all our cylinders firing. We still don't have any answers for their inside Big Men rebounding wise ans scoring wise. They have 2 quality inside players who rebound and can score. CO remains a 1 trick pony and he is all he is ever going to be, a shot blocking , undersized Center. . We have little offensive rebounding skills, to put back the long range misses, we are quite good at. Rarely do you see one of our players even battling underneath, undersized though they are.. CO has almost zero natural instincts with the ball and often isn't in position for the errant shot put back. That won't change.

I am glad that Jordan is returning since it will give us a chance for a decent season. Hopefully. He needs to get nearly as many shots as DLO and more than Phil.

The facts still remains that the composition of this team is flawed, playing without a natural power forward and very limited offensive firepower, even with Jordan back. DLO can't do it all.
Realistically, we pretty much need to get 35 to 40 points a game from Harrison and Jordan, with Phil and Dom contributing another 20 every game. If we get another 10 from Branch and CO we will get to 70.. That would likely put us in the mid pack of the BE standings at year end, with a .500 W/L %.

I said last week, Jordan must start every game, regardless of Lavin's disciplinary attitude, which hasn't worked by relegating him to the bench. We'll see.

Team composition and Player Management are big parts of a Coach's responsibilities.. Lavin hasn't proven he's a gem in those categories, as well as , consistent Recruiting and in game strategy..

He recruited 1 heralded class and 1 top 50 player. Better than Norm but, not where the Program should be at this point in time.

@NYPost_Brazille: St Johns availability at 2 hoping to get some real answers today. #sjubb

Lots of luck Zach! :)

Curious to see if Sheed starts. Doubt it, but ya never know.

Unless Jordan is planning to transfer, I don't see how he has any leverage in this situation. Yes, we badly need him, but he equally needs to keep playing if he wants any shot at a pro career. Where's he going to get the exposure he needs over the next few months if not here?

I originally felt Jordan would not be a loss .However it became obvious that we do not have alternatives if we are to give our 5 players some rest. One cannot expect our guys to have their A game considering the distraction unless DLO continues to be a super special leader

He sure is taking a unique approach to showing prospective employers that he is NBA ready.

Even the Knicks aren't this daft.

The optimist in me says Jordan had his handlers pulling him in all directions and talking about making the jump to the NBA. He became reclusive and high maintenance and alienated his teammates. In return they grew impatient with his repeated selfish actions.

Finally, if true and his grandmother was ill and eventually passed, the kid may have just hit rock bottom and needed to take a deep breath, whether you agree with the way he went about it or not. He is impetuous afterall.

Now as Jordan is set to return, he will realize opportunities like these are fleeting. He will bust it for every game, even the Carnesecca home games. He will heed Harrison's example and allow all of his energy and talent to be channeled in a positive manner to become a better teammate, player, and most importantly, a better person.

The pessimist in me says everything identically except for the last paragraph. That alternate ending has Jordan not learning from mistakes, despite the warnings and suspensions. Neither the staff or teammates can trust him because his rash behavior persists. He leaves no other choice and everything culminates in Jordan's permanent dismissal from the team.

We will see soon enough. I am however keeping what I think will happen to myself.
