Jordan Status?

I'm glad the kid is back but he cost us the Butler game which will come back to haunt us at some point unless we win the game tomorrow vs Villanova. Let's see RJ play his ass off tomorrow and help us to a victory.

I'm not convinced we beat Butler even with Jordan, I agree our chances are better but they are a touch match up for us especially with Jones back. Butler is now 28 in the AP with wins against 3 ranked teams (UNC, St. John's & Georgetown, although not sure if G'Town was ranked at the time of their meeting). The fact that it was a home loss may come back to haunt us but hopefully we can steal a win or two on the road to make up for it.

They out rebounded us by 8 and it was even more lopsided in the first 1/2. They had 10 offensive boards. Our lack of size is what is hurting us most. Yes we miss Jordan and his ability to get into the lane may have been the difference in the Butler game but until we can get another body to hit the boards (Jones, Alibegovic or JDR) we will find it tough to compete in the Big East. I am not saying we can't win, not at all, I am just saying that lack of size makes it tough.

In the first half we had no one attempting to rebound an offensive shot. Happened last year as well. Expected more boards from Pointer last game. Can't expect Obekpa to do it by himself.

Curious to see if Sheed starts. Doubt it, but ya never know.

Unless Jordan is planning to transfer, I don't see how he has any leverage in this situation. Yes, we badly need him, but he equally needs to keep playing if he wants any shot at a pro career. Where's he going to get the exposure he needs over the next few months if not here?

It's a matter of getting the most out of Jordan the player , here and now. Benching him hasn't particularly helped him, so I'll go with whatever the staff decides is the best way to get this team back in gear.

I agree. Coach and the staff have to play it according to what they feel the situation dictates.
Some kids need tough love, some need to be cuddled. At the end of the day just get the team back on the same page, I don't care how you do it.

It is important to know how the other men on the team feel. I have heard and read they like him and miss him. I have heard and read he is disliked. Unless we are in the room the rest is conjecture. Lavin would need the OK from the seniors to start him or even take him back; whether it is because they know they stand a better chance of making the dance with him or they truly like him and understand what he is going through, either way Lavin will only have long term success if the seniors buy into this decision IMO.

@NYPost_Brazille: Steve Lavin sticking to his story that family issues reason for leave of absence for Rysheed Jordan. #sjubb

@NYPost_Brazille: Multiple sources said Rysheed Jordan missed practice and left team 3 times without permission. #sjubb

With Jordan, we have a better on ball defender for their good guards. He may create 2 more turnovers which we convert. We may rotate better on the zone to prevent Dunham from shooting some threes. On the offensive end, his presence helps to spread the floor a bit. D Lo was the only real threat for us. We can only do what we're hoping to do this season with him playing

Again what do his teammates think/ feel? Are they supporting him? Are they willing to overlook this for a better shot at the NCAA's? IMO Lavin is emotionally (and financially) invested in this team. He wants (and needs) them to succeed. One thing I do know is I do not know the answer to these questions. Maybe someone on the board does. Without these answers I can not pass judgment on this.

I think his teammates know they need him to make the tournament, which is their goal. I have no idea if they're angry at Jordan, etc, but I know they want to win and Jordan helps with that. Especially with most of them being seniors, they'll support him coming back.

@GregLogan1: D'Angelo Harrison credits Lavin with good job in meeting with Jordan to convince to return. Adds soph"knows he let us down." #sjubb

"Convince him" ?

I hope that Jordan can mature quickly and get us all cheering for him.

Steve Lavin (on facebook) I am not sure if this is an authentic account?

"I think it's key that you don't live in the peaks or valleys emotionally, the season is so long, it's critical that you focus on the task at hand. Let's get a little bit better each day in all facets of play. Then prepare, with purpose, for an upcoming opponent like Villanova. When you have a setback or a series of defeats, those are report cards. You have to do some self-examination, be honest, tell the truth, do the drillwork, watch the film, and create better basketball habits. A loss is a clue to a better way of doing things. If you do that over the course of the season, incrementally, you improve both as individual players and their skillsets, and collectively as a group. How to play better team defense, how to play a more close knit brand of basketball at the offensive end of the floor, we really try and stay in the moment and just focus on the task at hand".

IMO he has a fair amount of leverage. Make no mistake about it, we desperately need him and he knows that. And teaching lessons aside, Lavin is likely coaching for his job. IMO if starting him was the deal breaker, then yes I think Lavin would start him regardless of any past transgressions and provided Lavin felt like he was all in for the rest of the season.

I don't believe either has much leverage. Jordan can hold his breath and his future is screwed. Lavin can apply the deserved amount of disciplinary measures, and our season is screwed. St. Johns needs Jordan to be firing on all cylinders to have a successful season, and Jordan needs to fire on all cylinders for Jordan to have an NBA future. Symbiosis.

Gotta be authentic. That's the exact same answer he gave to the sideline reporter at a recent game. :)

"Convince him" ?

Neither of us are 19 and dumb. Maybe one of the two, but not both.

That doesn't surprise me in the least Paultz.

If hHrrison's take is true the whole death in the family scenario certainly must be viewed in a different light. Like I said, and many on the board also know this, Jordan has been a problem since he came here.

Does that quote change our position on who had the leverage? ;)

Actually a quote from his interview on Fox Sport 1 on Sunday.

Meant to say "your position"
