Joel

He's overrated. Go ahead and piss on me all you want, but it's the truth. I expected him to struggle against Kalkbrenner (which he did), but last night? He should have been dominant, he should have been a leader for his team. He's none of that.
Not pissing on you. Not into that kinky stuff. Thanks.

You are overreacting to your overrated claim. Soriano was a double-double machine who did not just forget how to play basketball. I think he is suffering from a mid season slump.

Citing Soriano's double-doubles is like citing Anderson's undefeated record. When it counts, he's not there.

Pitino's peers (Big East coaches) disagree as they picked him preseason all Big East. Agree he was awful last night but he had plenty of company. Let's wait and see a few more games before we decide he's overrated.

I don't think Soriano is overrated but he's also not the type of guy that will go carry an offense with a ton of holes in it right now.

Others need to step up so the focus on Joel lessens when we are on O. He's not Joel Embiid
Serious question, anyone can play hard with bad results, but do you think Soriano is leaving it all out there the last few weeks? Is he leading the team by example with his effort; after all, he is the captain!

I don't think he is leaving it all out there but thats kinda what I mean when I say he "hes not the type of guy who will go carry an offense"

I say that because I don't think he has the motor to. Especially when he's a big man playing on a team with questionable guard play. That kinda thing can make you check out of games. I am not making excuses for him I am just sayin thats what I feel like I am seeing at least

Soriano is a good player. Hes just not great. Good players have good nights snd bad nights. Joels bad nights are adding up.

Talking about him as an nba player is laughable.

Joel is a model of consistency is unquestionably our best player. He would benefit from having some players on our team that could stretch the D by hitting a 3 pointer every once in a while.

In the three years he’s been here we’ve never tried to run the offense through him. Fortunately for we shoot such a low percentage from 3% over that team his offensive boards and put backs have kept us in games and won others for us.

Couple of things.

Athletic centers are a challenge for Joel He will have difficulty in the Marquette game. Zuby a better fit for extended time.

The rebounding disparity. We constantly foul, so there is no opportunity for a rebound.

Most teams probe. Drive and dish. We only have one guy who can probe. Need more slashers.

Joel is excellent but he could be a lot better. Problem is that he’s a double-double machine but often doesn’t play smart nor hard. His fire comes after plays sometimes, not during the plays. His ceiling is a lot higher than he is playing right now. He needs to grind more on defense and take it a lot more seriously than he does.

Agree with the comment. To add another observation, I seem to recall that Pitino wanted Soriano to lose body fat and get into the best shape of his life in order to run down the court more often on offensive or defensive fast breaks. I don't remember Soriano getting down the court in either case especially when an opposing team's fast break is developing to either get into position to block a shot or grab a rebound on a missed shot. By positioning himself either on the foul line or the top of the key as he often does, he already has a head start.

Not every entry pass is created equal. We’ve been very lazy and bad as team getting him the ball lately. I posted this photo of a Jenkins assist during the Creighton game. Soriano literally caught the ball through the defenders arms. It wasn’t even a 50/50 pass….it was 60/40 Creighton.

I think during Marquette game we will see more of those quick hockey passes from Jenkins to wings to Joel instead of just lobbing him 50/50 balls.

He also has to know he can pass out, repost, and get it back.

Joel's got to know that if he is double- and triple-teamed that he should pass it back out. Get the defensive players moving their feet. In and out catch with the guards and forwards.

Soriano is a very good "TEAM" player. He needs his teammates to bring out his best by playing better themselves.
