Joel

After the loss to Marquette, in the post game presser, CRP staunchly defended Joel's play as not being the problem. He said he's been double and triple teamed, and called out a bunch of Joel's teammates by name to step it up.

Gonna bet that vote of confidence went a long way in the performance Joel put forth last night. When Rick pulled Joel with about a minute to go to a huge ovation, Rick gave Joel a long big hug, a sign of just how much Rick loves Joel as a person.

Wilcher got a start because IMO Rick wanted to give him a vote on confidence. I thought he played reasonably well.

The answer to "what's wrong with Joel?" is nothing. A little slump, maybe, but nothing more. Teammates make shots, they have to be guarded, freeing Joel inside and out.

Rick is not just a great coach, but great psychologist.

Took Joel a little time to get going. But he grew in confidence as the game progressed. Nice reaction with the Pitino hug as Joel finished his night.

Agree with most of this, however, I do think it is fair to say that Joel was lacking in energy, for whatever reason, the previous few games. Hopefully he has his second wind and will get more assistance from his teammates so he can be a dominate force, as we need.

100%. And he also pushed the right buttons with Dingle. His defense/motor were the best I've seen thus far.

Joel‘s play obviously has been dismal. I get Rick’s frustration with him, but not sure ultra sensitive Joel will find public comments motivating if that was RP’s intention. Some things better said privately imo, but not sure either approach will move the needle on this fifth year senior.

Joel would have flourished this year if we could space the floor better. As of now, it's all log jams in the paint with some offensive rebounds. I'm disappointed that he never developed a back to the basket game. Teams have figured out his game, and with the lack of shooting he is totally nullified on offense.
