Jermaine Lawrence, PF (Cincinnati)

.@Mainestory is considering #stjbb, Cincinnati and UNLV, with sources telling @SNYtv #stjbb is the leader

SJU was once the leader in the Gathers recruitment and we saw how well that turned out

I'll get excited when he signs a LOI

How convenient for you to use Gathers when we've been leaders for several others and have landed 'em. Not to mention, Gathers actually committed to St. John's prior to reneging.

You also have to remember that Gathers is actually a kid from the south. Lawrence is a New Yorker (the same area, in which St. John's resides). Does it mean we'll land him? Not necessarily. But considering one player is originally from the Johnnies' backyard versus another kid being from the deep south is quite different. Some of you allow emotion to dictact the train of thinking.

I'll agree that I'll also get excited once he commits and signs an LOI to St. John's.

It wasn't a slight on the coaching staff. I'm simply stating that it's not worth getting excited over a HS kid who hasn't made up his mind about what college he'll be attending next year.

We've been over this year in and year out. People focus so intently on who we might get in the future instead of appreciating who is currently here. We are in the middle of a season in which the majority of our team is underperforming and we're talking about a 17 year old tweets.

I know it wasn't a slight on the coaching staff. I took the post for what it was worth.... Conveniently, mentioning Gathers when there were others whom we've landed that mentioned we were out in front or amongst the leaders for their respective services.

There isn't anything wrong with looking at the future. Recruiting is the main lifeline of a program, and when you have a top 10 talent who could be on the team a season from now, then you can expect some folks to get excited.

The way we're currently performing shouldn't stop fans from getting giddy about the prospects of landing Lawrence (of course, I won't get excited until he's officially signed with the Johnnies). This goes back to what I stated about some posters allowing their emotions to dictate their train of thought. By the way, the tweet wasn't by Lawrence. Zags was the one who tweeted it.

You're right, there is nothing wrong with keeping an eye towards the future. But a lot of fans on this board are doing nothing but that. Every year is the same thing. "If we can get this guy, then we will be great." "If we sign him, we'll be over the top."

Let's take last year for example. We signed a questionable player in Orlando Sanchez. We're seeing how that turned out. They signed their PG of the future in Branch. Only problem is Lavin doesn't play him. And we pine and pine for these guys because our fortunes will change with them on the team. Yet, it doesn't seem to be happening. So as I said, let's focus on getting the players on our team better and salvaging this season.

I'd love to see Lawrence and Jordan sign with St. John's. From all accounts, they are really good players and may have a great career ahead of them. But they are a distant thought for me. We've been through this before with countless recruits and sometimes we get them and sometimes we don't. But I think it's safe to say that no one player is going to walk through that door and save SJU. We've been through this and seen how it worked out.

Understandable.

“@NYPost_Brazille: Of three schools left -- CIncy, St. John's and UNLV -- St. John's was first school to recruit Lawrence, which means a lot to family. #stjbb”

“@NYPost_Brazille: Also, sources say, no leader, for Jermaine Lawrence, but St. John's does have an "advantage" because it it so close by.”

@NYPost_Brazille: Told Jermaine Lawrence will take an unofficial to St. John's at end of month and make a decision shortly afterwards (1)

Thanks for the info Paultzman! Getting Lawrence is just what the doctor ordered. Throw in Jordan, and it would be a phenominal recruiting haul. Just wish we had recruits that would commit earlier, but I can't complain with late commitments from the likes of Obekpa and Sampson.

I know this probably means nothing but hey it can't hurt because he could have just ignored him. On Lawrence's twitter, a SJ fan wrote about how he put Lawrence on his SJ team in a video game and how nasty he was in the paint. Lawrence retweeted it. I know lol sad and pathetic to read into anything, but any little bit helps. He could have just not responded or retweeted at all, hopefully he ends up at home!

SJU79 on the jungle thinks we are getting Jermaine

Is that his mother?
sju79 has been posting on the jungle for a while.

He is right a lot of the time. He doesnt post much but when he does it's usually pretty good actually great info.

He was wrong on Kyle coming here but honestly I really done ever remember him being wrong other than maybe 1 other time than that.

He's probably the best I've read in regards to predictions on recruiting on the boards over the years

Won't believe it until it's official and even then it doesn't mean crap until he's eligible playing in a game. Also, if this is just another "all around athlete" instead of a SKILLED basketball player, I don't want him.

He's tall and he can shoot. You'll want him.

Kid is a top level talent..he is welcomed here with open arms. Hopefully current group will grow up and he will add to mix. I remember Jay Wright's class of Foye, Ray, and Sumpter taking lumps in Big East before they grew up.

We are the youngest team in NCAA. As frustrated as I was at the game yesterday, I understand some patience is needed.

When Lavin came he said year four would be year everything comes together..I'm giving him benefit of doubt

You do realize G'Town starts 3 sophs and 2 JR's right? They are very young too. When will people wake up and realize youth isn't everything? When that excuse erodes, all that's left is a bad team.

What did he say?

That Jermaine is going to sign with St Johns
is he a reliable source?

In my opinion the best on all 3 st johns boards and I'll say he's better than any journalist who covers St Johns or college basketball guy in relationship to st johns recruiting.

Again the only time I really remember him being really wrong was Kyle Anderson and with Kyle even Choz4life thought he was coming here

Anything can happen but SJU79 has as good of a track record as you can get

Joe3, we all know we are an incomplete team. Whether you want to throw a conniption fit about it every 5 minutes on this website is up to you - but it's tiring for other readers. The coaches made some calculated decisions about personnel choices - and it hasn't panned out. Please try to accept the team for what it is and not grumble all the time about it. No disrespect to you, but sometimes the voluminous posting on the same faults over and over is a bit much.
