Jermaine Lawrence, PF (Cincinnati)

This hurts because I got my hopes up after sju79 on jj said he was coming here
I agree w MJ. It hurts more when you have your hopes up. It sounded like this was a done deal to SJU. But,maybe Maven, whoever he is, is wrong. Is he a reliable sourse?

He's pretty reliable no one is 100% when it comes to these kids nowadays and I dont think he's put it out on twitter if he didn't know something.

I guess better to be prepared for bad news rather than get blindsided

It's probably safe to assume that Maven knows Darren Savino.

Sammy knows everybody in the business!
Yes he knows Darren but more importantly, he is best friends with Ron Naclario, who was Jermaine's high school coach and who knew that Jermaine was going to Cincy. His handler and his mother wanted him out of Queens so his not coming "home" is not a shock.
When Lavin sat Gift it was pretty telling to me he had few options or sure things goings for 2013 and was focusing on just two recruits. Another glaring weakness is at the guard position so I am sure he is putting all his effort right now on the kid from Philly.

I travel to Cincinnati on business quite often & it's a nice little mid-western town - but nothing special. How a local kid from Queens can chose UC over SJ, the Big Apple and MSG absolutely alludes me. Did he not pay any attention to the Harkless experience?

Maybe, Just maybe he wanted to go away to college!

Exactly! Lots of sour grapes on here. We've always lost NYC kids who want to go away, and we always will. The difference now is that we're getting kids from elsewhere who want to go away. IMO(and many others), NYC is the greatest city in the world. However if you've grown up here, going away to college can be a wonderful experience. Sorry I didn't experience it. But my son(a high school senior) will.

This kid made his decision, and good for him, but he didn't even give us a final visit in his hometown after Lavin and crew went to his games and recruited him hard for a LONG time? At least attend the last visit...that's a dick move especially because it's your own stomping grounds...SJ deserves more respect than that. Also, he says he is a better fit there. Would love to hear the rational behind that...the only thing I can see is the cooler jerseys or the warmer fan reception.

He didn't have to visit St. John's one last time to pacify them. If he felt more comfortable with Mick Cronin and the Cincinnati program (which he obviously did), then he made the right choice for himself. He didn't owe SJU anything.

You would think he just saw Harkless who was on campus parading around after going right to the NBA. He got TONS of exposure because of the NYC stage which no doubt hyped him up and made his stock rise. Lavin knows how to get you to the NBA if you have the talent. I can't see how going to Cincy would 1) Give you a much better chance to win over us or 2) Give you a better shot at the NBA. To choose a small stage over a big one especially as they lose Wright is very weird. It's like shooting yourself in the foot intentionally...I wonder if they are paying him and that was the difference. Either way, you don't tell Lavin you will visit him for the last shot then not go. It's called respect and even if you are leaning one way you see what they have to say if for no other reason than it's your home school.

No such thing as "home" school in the recruiting landscape.

Besides, this recruitment wasn't going to come down to a final visit.

In my recent post that was thought of as a negative one, I indicated that he probably cancelled his visit to us because he didn't want to give us false hope. Guess I was right, Moose.

Word is Lavin postponed the visit.

Flukes - or is Lawrence injury prone?

Any prior history?

Didn't he miss the majority of last summer and fall with the wrist injury.

He probably has played 5 games his senior year since coming back.
