Jermaine Lawrence, PF (Cincinnati)

No guarantees for a 1 and done. So if he isn't 1 and done, then what? I think my points become much more valid. I can see losing a guy like Jordan to Temple, but to lose Lawrence from Queens to a weakened Cincy team is pretty bad IMO. He turns down the big stage where he is from in the basketball mecca where he will arguably have a better chance to win by the time he gets here, for Cincinnati. Something just doesn't seem right...I wouldn't be surprised if the dirty recruiting rumors were true. With that said, it's totally his decision so it's a moot point. Just makes zero sense from a logic standpoint.

He could still do that and play baseball as well.if he is serious about his education that is great. As a reds fan I just wanted to know if he was serious about baseball.

The stipulation is that he gets his education.

Besides, he pitched one summer of baseball. Hardly enough to get any call ups.

Nice try though.

Don't know Lawrence except from here and JJ. Is there an element of Jakarr is to Moe as Lawrence is to Jakarr? i.e. Jakarr doesn't re-up if Moe is still here and Lawrence goes to Cincy because Jakarr will be here.

You do realize he already is being paid to play baseball. If he wants to be a professional athlete baseball may be his best option. If he wants to pursue his degree that's great as well. He'll pich minor league again this year if he takes another step forward he may opt out of basketball. He has a very live arm. Scouting reports on him are very encouraging

James, you beat us out for Lawrance, and now your looking for one of our current players to leave. You already wished us good luck the rest of the way, so why you still here?

Please find said scouting reports.

He made a few appearances of relief duty in their farm system over the summer. Yet you came here and asked if Amir was thinking about dropping out to pursue baseball full-time and money as a starting pitcher for the Reds. Really?

Enjoy the Super Bowl.

jermaine officially announced to cincy?

Guys I'm not trolling. If Amir wants to stay in school and play hoops great. My question was since he is not a starter and is a very nice left handed PROSPECT a rare commodity in baseball any chance he opts out of hoops and commits full time to baseball. I know you wouldn't want that to happen but we don't make those decisions he does. I was asking your opinion.

Don't know why the guys are giving you a hard time...from what I've seen you haven't been trolling, just asking valid questions. Since he already has a contract with the Reds and is clearly choosing baseball to pursue, I'm sure there's a way he can leave early from SJ to focus on baseball. Not totally sure how that works.

You just happen to show up the day you get Lawrence asking about Amir Garrett quitting our team for your beloved Cincinnati Reds? You're obviously trying to ruffle some feathers. Congrats on Lawrence, hopefully he helps you guys beat Tulane and East Carolina.

Joe I think people are upset over the Lawrence decision. Actually it was how I found this site. I'm really more a reds fan than bearcat. I follow reds minor leagues and Amir is a kid who throws 96 is left handed. Reds paid over draft slot to sign him knowing he was going to SJ'S to play baseball. That should speak volumes of his value to them. I've seen he is not starting and he may be wasting baseball years. With his arm would love to see him give baseball a shot. I know basketball is his first love and respect the fact he is chasing that dream. Thanks for replying. I' m a old baseball fan who was born in cincy.

I'm 59 years old and retired military. I don' t get off agitating people on a blog. I'm a baseball fan interested in Amir. I found t,his site because of Jermaine's recruitment in the local paper. other cincy fans ref. this site on a comment. Sorry to upset you guys.

Hence the reason you asked this question about Amir in this very thread, eh?

Not as upset as you'd like to think with the way this recruitment had played out.

BTW, if Amir doesn't work out, Obekpa would make a great Centerfielder for you guys.

People are upset for sure...I doubt anyone on this board is more upset than me, especially because we all felt we had him in our back pocket. But to say you were trolling is just not true. I'm a Mets fan and I'd be very excited about a prospect who can throw 96 MPH as well. I see nothing wrong with what you said even if I'm pissed about Lawrence. I'm worried we will not take our big step next year without his services, but Lavin has hit more than missed thus far, so when you put it in context it makes it a bit easier to swallow.
