Jermaine Lawrence, PF (Cincinnati)

This kid made his decision, and good for him, but he didn't even give us a final visit in his hometown after Lavin and crew went to his games and recruited him hard for a LONG time? At least attend the last visit...that's a dick move especially because it's your own stomping grounds...SJ deserves more respect than that. Also, he says he is a better fit there. Would love to hear the rational behind that...the only thing I can see is the cooler jerseys or the warmer fan reception.

He didn't have to visit us, if he already knew where he was going to go why wait? Plus he already has been to campus a bunch of times.

I travel to Cincinnati on business quite often & it's a nice little mid-western town - but nothing special. How a local kid from Queens can chose UC over SJ, the Big Apple and MSG absolutely alludes me. Did he not pay any attention to the Harkless experience?

Why come to STJ and backup a kid who is pretty much the same player? He's not a center and he's doesn't have the experience to unseat Sampson. He would have been the third big next year. Good for us, but not so good for him.

I think we would be better served with a 6'8 240 pound JUCO junkyard dog.

Maybe, Just maybe he wanted to go away to college!

With good hands.

"The plane! The plane!"

I would also want that guy, if we truly know he exists and attainable.

While I am in no position to say with particularity, there are HUNDREDS of guys out there that get overlooked who can play, or who develop in JUCO. We don't need a star, we need a banger who can rebound. We need some size with muscle. Someone else said it earlier, we need a lunchpail guy. The staff can find one if they look. Even Mike Jarvis found a few of these guys I recall.

You seen him? Heard of him? Just wondering.

Having a daughter in college and a son going this Fall, each kid is soooo different and one never knows what's in a person's heart!
I hope Lawrence flourishes at UC.

By the way an interesting procedural thing is arising: if a player now trasnfersto Queens from say UC or UConnor Pitt etc. while the Big East is in transition, I wonder if it's one or two years that player must wait for eligibility?

all the best

You would think he just saw Harkless who was on campus parading around after going right to the NBA. He got TONS of exposure because of the NYC stage which no doubt hyped him up and made his stock rise. Lavin knows how to get you to the NBA if you have the talent. I can't see how going to Cincy would 1) Give you a much better chance to win over us or 2) Give you a better shot at the NBA. To choose a small stage over a big one especially as they lose Wright is very weird. It's like shooting yourself in the foot intentionally...I wonder if they are paying him and that was the difference. Either way, you don't tell Lavin you will visit him for the last shot then not go. It's called respect and even if you are leaning one way you see what they have to say if for no other reason than it's your home school.

No such thing as "home" school in the recruiting landscape.

Besides, this recruitment wasn't going to come down to a final visit.

Zach Braziller reported in todays New York Post that Jermaine Lawrence commited to Cincinnati.

No way, he is a head case. Very talented but isn't a "junkyard" player, his game is finesse

Agree w/ Marilac... we need someone who can board but who also can work the elbows to break zones. We need some strength. That is why we struggle with Hoyas and will struggle with Panthers. Hit the weight room men for the next two campaigns.

What's up with Sanchez for next year? I'm only kidding!!! But that is the type of player I have in mind... 6'9" to 7' strong and agile and good passer. Might be what Obekpa turns into but realistically won't be to 14-15 campaign IMHO FWIW.
