Jermaine Lawrence, PF (Cincinnati)

Fortunately, with GG redshirting, Lavin can assure Lawrence that he will play the 3 next year---whether Jakarr leaves or stays for another year.

Add Lawrence to this team, and assuming Sampson/Harrison stay, it becomes our break out year. Harrison as a JR, Sampson as a Soph, Obekpa as a Soph, Greene as a JR (I think), Marco as a SR, GG as a Senior, etc.

Jermaine Lawrence will visit Cincinnati officially Friday and St. John's will be next, I'm told. #stjbb #collegehoops

Surprisingly he didn't visit yesterday to see the Bearcats play New Mexico. Could have received alot of love from their fans.

Maybe he was too distraught & dsitracted with the state of local sports: the loss to UNC-Ash; the firing of Coach Johnson; the lack of NFL playoffs etc. The bottom line is St. J's vicinity offers so much more than UCinn - but then again it's what he wants - and I hope his heart ultimately is with the local team. I hope he enjoys a good college experinece whereever he chooses to enroll.

all the best

Cam someone bring me up to date on Marco his playing time and overall his performance and if you think he will be the shooter we expected

IMO I think Marco needs more minutes. His shooting has began to pick up, i think he's hit 5 or 6 threes in the last 3 games. His lack of defense I believe is overstated (our whole team strugles guarding the perimeter). A couple things I like about his game is that he doesn't hold on to the ball and he looks to crash the boards.

He has not been able to hit more than two 3s a game. I think during Big East play he will have a break out game where he will ne on fire from deep. But I think he is starting to get in the swing of things

Hes only had double digit minutes in two games. In the four games wheres hes got 9+ minutes, hes hit two 3's in three of them. With more minutes will see him get more comfortable.

This is true and you can't really complain when he is shoot 40% but only take 5 shots in his limited time. He might start getting more minutes if Greene doesn't start scoring again.

Kinda hope they both warm up in conference play. Seems better to have four scoring opinions but wishful think.

Pope John plays South Shore at Baruch College on Monday, January 21 at 6:30pm.

Is anyone going to the game ????????

Would be great to have a strong St. John's showing for Jermaine.

Can any insiders summarize:

@FinkelsteinNERR: ESPN: Jermaine Lawrence talks about his final 3 schoolshttp://t.co/isms1lw2

Highlights-

“I’m going to take an official to St. John’s soon,” he said, “Then, after the visit, we’ll take a little time to sit down and see what each school has to offer and then we’ll go from there.”

UNLV hosted Lawrence for his first official visit back in November, and while it’s the farthest distance from home, there are still some familiar faces in Las Vegas.

“I liked their up-tempo style of play and the weather is real nice,” Lawrence said. “Plus, I’d have the opportunity to play with Savon Goodman again, who I played with in AAU.”

Cincinnati offers a familiar face of its own in assistant Darren Savino, whom Lawrence singled out as the coach who has been recruiting him the longest.

“Coach Savino has been there throughout my recruitment,” Lawrence said. “He’s been consistent with me and my family, always communicating with me and my mom, and been to a lot of my high school and AAU games.”

“I like that they’re a tough team,” Lawrence said. “And Bearcat Nation showed a lot of support when I was out there.”

While St. John’s will receive Lawrence’s final official visit, there isn’t likely to be as much to learn as there was on his first two, since he’s already taken several unofficial trips to the school’s campus.

“It’s only a few minutes away from my neighborhood,” Lawrence said, “so my mom and I have been there a bunch.

“Coach (Steve) Lavin is a winning coach and he’s bringing the program to the next level,” Lawrence added. “I know Chris Obekpa and I could see us playing (well) together in the frontcourt.”

“@SLAMonline: King From Queens: Versatile, silky-smooth swingman Jermaine Lawrence is ready for the next step:http://t.co/JDI0LLO3 @mainestory”

Would he be our first 5 star recruit ever? Man we need this kid...especially if D'Lo wants to leave. Imagine if somehow D'Lo stays, Sampson keeps improving and wins ROY, we land Lawrence, then we have an improved Branch, Greene, Garrett, Pointer, Obekpa, and pure shooter Hooper?! Man...that team would really be nasty. If I were Lavin I would show him that potential lineup and tell him it's much better than Cincy, UNLV, etc. he must be pitched as the missing puzzle piece that makes it all come together for us. He clearly has a lot of pride in being from Queens and watching the team all his life. I really hope his family is going to tell him it's a no brainer to stay home.

Your new to this program. We got the overall#1 recruit w Felipe Lopez and a number of 5 star MCD AAs. But it has been a long time since we got a 5 star recruit.

I can name several 5-stars that have signed with St. John's in the past 15-20 years.

Felipe Lopez, Zendon Hamilton, Ron Artest, Erick Barkley, Omar Cook, and Darius Miles (who flew the coop to the NBA straight outta HS).

Heck! Norvel Pelle was considered a 5-star player, per Rivals.

Before Rivals and the Internet there were more that would be considered 5* today---LeRoy Ellis, Tony Jackson, Malik Sealy, George Johnson, Reggie Carter, Chris Mullin, Walter Berry.
