James Jones - Next Coach (oh boy)?

I take back what I said earlier about not buying season tickets for this upcoming year.

Let me be more clear: I will not buy ANY tickets for this year if we hire someone like James Jones. The only exception will be if we somehow position ourselves to make the Tournament (the real one- won't happen).

Last year alone, I dragged a total of 8 different friends and family members out to games who would not have attended otherwise. We accounted for at least a couple thousand dollars worth of tickets and food/beverages.

I'm sure there are others like me. I will not accept a ****ty candidate when we could hire a great coach like Cluess. Let Cragg do his job.

Following "The Interview", surely Gempshaw and Oliva understand that Cluess is one of the very few hires that could take a little heat off of them.

Hiring James Jones is the equivalent of a big F-U to everyone.

Yeah but who is making the decisions?
Pretty clear Tom
Ha we figured it out the other day that we were in the ear of the horses ass not his face. Guess we will have to pick someone up at RDU pretty soon

His grandson beat us in 2010. Played for St. Mary's.
Rob. Good player. Kind of an Anthony Glover body, maybe a little taller.

WCC must not have transfer rules because he started at San Diego.
If I remember correctly, kind of short on talent, but definitely possessed that killer instinct

From a New Haven Register article about James Jones/SJU: "and given the St. John’s roster situation, which is in flux right now following Mullins’ departure, it’s possible Jones might not even want the job. Attempts to reach Jones on Wednesday were unsuccessful."

I can't even being to think what kind of team we will field next year

That’s why I say lock up Cluess. Soon we are going to be turned down by low major coaches and look worse than we do now, which would be hard to recover from.

We'd be lucky to go 3-27. Every player will split. Attendance would be abysmal.

Weatherman has now confirmed. If this shit happens our steak of season tix since the beginning of the Norm error ( starting with Kranmars and myself ) has officially ended for seven of us. We will stubhub 114 msg to sit with olv and Ralph assuming they renew and let that money go to our scalper friebd

I know I’m in section 116 but count me in. I have no intention of even scalping tix, except for the occasional one in the front row. But I’ll still meet you guys for drinks after the losses

Games likely to be free

No point in trying to play more games at MSG
We wouldn't sell enough seats to even come close to paying the rent

This is would be just my luck. I'm finally moving back to NYC after over a decade away from home and this is what I'm coming back to? When I left Norm was coach and going to games sucked, I come back, Norm 2.0 is coach and games are going to suck. I was looking forward to meeting some of you all but looks like that won't happen now. This is a fkn joke.
James Jones over Tim Cluess?
What a freakin' joke!!!
I like Tim a lot, but I didn't think he was right for the job this time around. With the power of hindsight, he would have been better than Mullin when that search was going on.

That said, he was better candidate than Moser. And he's literally a zillion times better than Jones. This is the worse coaching search in the history of searches. People who don't recognize the value of a great basketball program to a school shouldn't be making any basketball decisions at all.

And a coaching search should be one of the easier decisions. Just imagine all the non-sports decisions they fuck up.

All these years I said at least it's better being a Johnny fan than a Knick fan (I was both); not sure that will be true next year, although with my luck it will just be equally bad!

Hiring an Ivy League coach for a team that has been maybe the farthest team from a Ivy League team for the last how many years.

Sorry but not sorry. It's fact

I was out shopping all day. Costco has great values--but NOT this!!!
Was surfing on phone intermittently; didn't notice this until I got back!!!
Typical me, I began to look for a silver lining in the guy's record.
And he's been 'good' the past 10 years, winning 180 games with a .592 winning %-age overall, and booking 92 Ivy wins and a .657 winning %-age over that time.
But it's the Ivy League!
That silver lining is the plastic wrap inside a steel drum.
The news could not be worse.
Would the BOT reject this insanity?!?
I'm sick.

Maybe this the school floated this to rally support for Cluess. A week ago most of the board was killing Cluess over Kenpom ratings.

Tonight he's become a near unanimous choice.
