Sorry Tom, but it seems they won’t hire Pitino who many on this board want , yours truly included , so no sense that we keep harping on that improbable hire. We have had 1 true four star recruit in 4 years , Ponds, and a bunch of 3 stars the majority of whom transferred out. I can’t even remember the last true 5star recruit we got. Was it Don Pointer 9 years ago who did nothing his first three years ? Was it Rysheed 7 years ago ?
Let’s stop with the nonsense that we need the level of recruit you are referring to. We need a coach with a plan and a system something Jarvis, Norm , Lavin and Mullin all lacked. All of them had zero plan for recruiting , a grab what you can strategy at best.
If he can recruit 3 star players who don’t leave on mass ( Mussini, Ellison, Sima, Williams do I continue ? ) mixed in with jucos and grad transfers, and the guy can coach we will be far better off than the last 4 coaches.
Am I excited about the hire not at all but SJU is my school and if JJ is hired I will certainly back him and give him the same respect I gave every other coach to date. I loved Mahoney his first season, I loved Jarvis his first 2 , I respected Norm throughout, I loved Lavin first 3 seasons and I supported Mullin until I réaliséd progress was just not happening.
Coach Jones deserves our support and respect and if you have nothing nice to say about the hire direct your anger towards those responsable , not the Coach , unless he stops working as many seem to have done in the past.

Honestly, I hope this information is wrong too. We know why the first one fell through and who knows what can happen. This is what I'm hearing

Well I doubt he is. The Hurley thing blew up at the end because of Bob and Oliva screwing it up from what I heard. Jones is a solid coach, totally unknown as a recruiter which is a HUGE gamble imo. I know he’s from the area and what not but big gamble.

If it is him, they need to surround him with some strong recruiters and I hope he’s a hustler and has an eye for talent on the recruiting trail. Seems like a good man and good coach. I just hope he can move the needle upward.

Painful week, but funny to see reporters scrambling for info on search. Rothstein seems most wired at this point & Slater one to also pay attention to.

Absolutely 100% agree. You have the whole basketball community on your side. You've waited decades for this shot. Are you going to let a bunch of idiots take this away from you? No, you want control. YOU TAKE CONTROL. Repole put the pressure on them. Make them stop you from doing what you know is right.

Rubin saying its Mike Anderson. I'll decline the phone calls next time I get the scoop. Leave it to the pros.
