James Jones - Next Coach (oh boy)?

As will mine. And not one dime more to my alma mater.
How will I ever meet you then? lol. Hate to say this Tony, if they don’t give a flying Fick about Repole’s money, they sure as hell don’t give a damn about ours.
So true! LOL! What I donate compared to Repole probably doesn’t even buy a pretzel at CA!
I feel sorry for the program, the players and the next coach. THIS firmly puts us at the bottom of the conference in so many ways.

His teams had no defense at all. Everything was run and gun! I refuse to buy into his success in the Guyanan Conference. However, he did get lots of people to follow his lead.
I believe the guy has three 20 win seasons in the last 5 years and has been to two NCAA tournaments in the last four years and even won a game. His team this year was better than ours with less talent and very well coached. Yale was a basketball wasteland in the Ivy league when he took over. He's a New York guy from Long Island. I don't know if he's the answer but I wouldn't just write him off either.
He was a .500(maybe 1 game over) coach in 15 years at Yale through 2015. In 2016 Copeland joined the team and in 2017 Oni joined the team. Both are NBA prospects. I don’t believe this is simply a case of a coach getting better at 50 years old(he’s 55 now), I think it’s case of a coach landing a couple of talented kids who he was able to ride to some success. Like others, bye bye season tix if this guy is hired.

So like EVERY other coach in the history of coaching he became better when he got better players. I don’t know Jones at all so I have no opinion but a) I don’t put credence in the source at all and b) if he landed NBA prospects at Yale, well that could possibly say something, no? Emphasis on possibly.....

Oni was not a D1 prospect, let alone an NBA prospect, when he arrived. Good for Jones for finding him and coaching him up. Copeland not sure about, but let’s assume same thing. Now you may choose to look at the last 4 years as an indicator of what kind of coach he is, but I’ll look at the past 20 years to draw my conclusion. And my conclusion is that he’s a mediocre coach in a conference which has sent very few coaches on to sustained success at a higher level. Jones just another one of the mediocre coaches being highly sought after.

Despite my criticism of source on Jones, he may be a serious candidate apparently.

Wish him well, but going to find another team to root for until these dopes figure it out.

His grandson beat us in 2010. Played for St. Mary's.

Of course he’s a serious candidate. He fits the exact profile of the coaching candidates. He’s a long term mid-major coach with a very mediocre track record. Perfect!

Yeah but who is making the decisions?

I knew it was a west coast team.

Pretty clear Tom

This hire would be a deal breaker for me. I will not attend games next year. To me this is Gempshaw and Oliva digging in after the Repole interview.

It has really become hard to take this program seriously. I sincerely hope our fan base sends a strong message now. I will begin doing my part by sending emails tonight.

I would guess Cragg will not be our AD when the basketball season starts. And, I don't blame him.

Did you even read my post? Clearly I stated I had no opinion so I didn’t take the last 4 or the previous 20 years to draw any conclusion.

Never been so embarrassed to be a fan of this once proud program. Don't know how Oliva and Bobby G can sleep at night.

Pretty mundane hire. Track record of ivy league coaches succeeding in power conferences not great. Although I guess you can say JT3 had a nice run at Gtown.

Just can't believe this the best we can do.

Jones has been a mediocre coach for Yale. Maybe that is all we can hope for at this point. If we hire this guy, I will just hope that Davidson continues to be good because I will be done with SJU.

Looks like this school finally did something right in hiring Cragg and then ran him out of the school within a year. What a disgrace and a joke.

Rob. Good player. Kind of an Anthony Glover body, maybe a little taller.

WCC must not have transfer rules because he started at San Diego.
