JaKarr Sampson

Maybe the visit is just a simple statement that we are still interested in him at SJU. If we did'nt show interest, what would that tell him?  In addition, if we got a whiff that he is looiking elsewhere, that is also important to know.

We should move on from him. He had time and chances to visit schools. NO loyalty NO ship

Oh for crying out loud The only reason you drop a RECRUIT who still has you in his top 4 (actually from all reported sources, his top ONE, he's just exploring other options), is if you sign someone in his class BETTER.

Jakarr ended 2011 as the #40 prospect in the RSCI rankings. If he reclassifys to 2012, he likely supplants guys like Danuel House and Sam Dekkar - and leapfrogs into the 2012 RSCI top 25.

BFingDeal if he requires some re-recruitment. The kid could be an absolute superstar senior on our 2016 National Championship team.

SJU had some nice success last year. But no way has it yet established it's bonafides for earning undying loyalty from RECRUITS from Akron Ohio. That kind of loyalty is a TWO way street. Not that anyone on these boards doesn't have the right to express their own opinion - but "move on from him - no loyalty, no ship" - and a hundred other similar comments on the SJU boards - doesn't exactly inspire (or demonstrate) the kind of loyalty that's being demanded. These are 18 year old kids evaluating what may be the most important decision of their lives so far. Circumstance has required an additioinal 6-10 months be added to that decision making process. I hope he comes to the realization that his original decision was the best one. Unless, of course, during the time HE's deciding, we land an Amile Jefferson, or pull a rabbit out of the hat like an Anthony Bennett to take that ride. Or who knows, maybe there's another "out of the top 100" right now like Dom Pointer, who'll end up our hihgest 2012 recruit by the time senior year is over - maybe be he'll be a 6'9 kid who can play the 3 and 4 :)

But in the meantime, Sampson is still a GREAT get, even if it's for the 2013 thru 2016 seaons.

I think it's ridiculous that JaKar is having our staff come in and re-recruit him. What is our staff going to say to him that he didn't hear last year?? I'm all for a kid looking at as many options as possible, but he either feels St. John's is a spot that will work out or not. Ridiculous that he's having us re-recruit him.

Could not disagree more and no point in responding other than what I have said

CR, could not agree with you more. My gut feeling is Sampson wants to play for Lavin & Co., but like any 18-year-old kid with NBA dreams, he's concerned about PT and being to showcase his talents as best he can, so he's keeping his options open. Nothing more, nothing less. It would be great if he had Amir Garrett's attitude and commitment to the program, but under the circumstances (including Gathers' coming into the fold), I think we should cut him a little slack.

(By the way, we all know you're going through a really rough time, but erratic outbursts like "Oh for crying out loud" cannot be tolerated.)

How about you let the moderators do the moderating.

Supposedly Duke might be in the mix now? Here is a piece of an article that was written a few days ago....

"We wrote recently of the visit that former St. John's signee JaKarr Sampson was set to take to Baylor, but it's not yet safe to call the Bears a leader for the coveted small forward........

Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog.com reported Tuesday night that while Baylor's coaching staff remains very aggressive in its recruitment of Sampson, other top programs like Duke, Kansas and yes -- St. John's -- are also very much in the mix.

Zagoria writes that Baylor coach Scott Drew, St. John's coach Steve Lavin and Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski were all at Brewster Academy on Tuesday (it's unclear whether Coach K took the trip to Wolfeboro to check in on Sampson or his teammate Mitch McGary), and that coaches from Kansas, Florida, Miami, Providence and South Florida will attend a workout today......"

Lawman, don't tell me you took me seriously! (I was poking a little fun at CR, who recently wrote that, because of what he's been dealing with, some of his recent posts might have been seen as ranting or bipolar-sounding.)

Duke was there mainly to recruit McGary.

CR, if you're referring to my post, I, too, didn't think a smiley face was needed. Besides, I'm inept are placing those faces in the right place.

Unfortunately that may be very true.

How often does Duke bring in a player who couldn't finish high school in four years?

Never understood why we didnt go hard after McGary since he was Jakarr's roommate.

The coaches felt Mitch out and he showed no interest. Jakarr is in regular communication with his fellow recruits at SJ. They are all pulling him back but like it or not, he has decided he wants to prep for the year as opposed to Amir and Norvel who are taking specific course work to qualify.

If you told me Garrtett and Pelle would be here in Dec and Sampson next year I would be very pleased.

I'd more than be pleased with just the first 2.

Agree here. Losing 1 guy out of 10 recruited would be more than fine. We do have Gathers coming in next year for PF help. LOVE to have Garrett and Pelle here in December.
