JaKarr Sampson

Then lets stop wasting time on him and look ahead. Just waiting til Lav makes another big signing , gets crazy all these sites and twitters? Guess we do not no until it comes from the horses mouth Just a question wht is your opinion on the next big recruit w sign either for 2011,12 13 0r 14h

If his NLI was still valid. By definition not qualifying makes it null and void. Null and void is the equivalent of never signing one to begin with.

Does any one know if Sampson is allowed to play for the Brewster team if he becomes 2012 eligilbe? How many years of HS/Prep school are you allowed?

Why would he go to Providence? It's a step down.

Playing time he would lose on a loaded SJ team....that's why!

Someone this talented would not be sitting, if he comes back to us he will see plenty of playing time

The bulk of his playing time was going to be at PF. He physically would not be able to move Gathers out of the paint in halfcourt sets during practice. And I'm pretty sure Gathers could score on him fairly regularly.

I agree Sampson is too good to sit, but he was going to get 30+ minutes as a freshman starter in the Big East. He wouldn't be getting nearly that as a soph.

Sampson could play at the 3/4 and occasionally the 5. He could also play in a line up with Gathers at the 5 and him at the 4. I believe he would have a great chance at starting on this team either in 2011 or 2012. Bottom line there is no reason with his talent that he should worry about his minutes

He was going to get serious minutes as a freshman but there is no doubt Gathers would have stole some of those minutes going forward when JK was a sophomore, lets face it a serious chunk , Gathers is just that good.

Honeslty, I don't even understand why he would reopen his recruitment. What did Lavin have to do with him not qualifying? Especially since it's not even just him.

The staff picked the summer school.

If it's a commit-to-us-now-or-we-move-on message being delivered, would Dunlap be the one doing it, or does it come straight from Lavin?

I think these kids sometimes are bored after the reality hits them that they did not qualify for college. So a good way for them to apply salve to the wound and stroke their ego at the same time is to open their commitment. There is a rush to these guys being chased by upper echlon programs.......just a thought.

According to Zag's he's visiting a bunch of different schools in the not-so-distant future.

I don't like making judgments on things I don't know a lot about, but this is a joke. This kid doesn't make the grades to make himself eligible,..so what happens?
Instead of trying to fix things in the classroom, he's gonna travel to bunch of different schools, the first being in Texas of all places, where I'm sure his grades will be on the up-and-up. And, predictably, every top 25 Division I basketball program is salivating just to get this kid on the phone.
So, according to NCAA logic, a kid can't make the grades, he de-commits because of it (supposedly), and now he's basically a free agent, where 10(!!!!!) top schools are already interested in him.
This is kind of a rant, and I'm sorry, but what the hell is going on here? This is just plain, old-fashioned ridiculous.
Instead of doing the right thing and doing the work in the classroom, he's going to be galavanting all over the country as the one of the biggest prospects in the country. Grades, be damned, I guess. See ya. It's almost like he's rewarded for failing.

Good post, guinness. Sniff.... Yep! Smells like hypocrisy to me.... Courtesy of the NCAA.

As, far as Sampson is concerned.... I guess he, like many of these kids, enjoys the attention and wanna go through the process again. I was hoping he would start pounding the books and try to stick with his guns and play for the Johnnies. Quite frankly, I have a hunch that he'll end up elsewhere.

At this point, I hope he does.

yep

I don't begrudge any kid changing their mind. I don't have to like it, but I can live with it.

What I don't understand is why we are still chasing after a kid that went from..."I love the staff and people at St John's" to "I failed to qualify so I'm re-opening my recruitment."

Either he wants to be here or he doesn't.

If he no longer feels the love or the desire to be here then why are we wasting time on him now?

Isn't that like getting divorced and then re-married 6 months later? How often does THAT work our for the best?

Sooner or later everyone remembers why they got divorced in the first place and it falls apart again...right?
