Interview with Jakarr does anyone have a subscription?

I think Fordham has a Scout subscription

He didnt say much that we didnt already know.

- Working on getting his grades in order.

- List is Kansas, Baylor, Louisville, SJU, Providence, etc

- Said might take trip to SJU to see his boys. "I'm friends with all those guys".

- Not planning any other trips til after school is up, concentrating on grades.

- Said he's seen Lavin 3 or 4 times so far this year.

- reporter asked him: "is it safe to say your recruiting is 'wide open' at this point"...Sampson said "oh yes...wide open."

Brewster Academy (NH) 95, Massanutten Military Academy (VA) 65

St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin and Providence head coach Ed Cooley were both in the building for this one, as was and NBA scout to see Mitch McGary. Massanutten was able to keep it close against the loaded Brewster squad, staying in a 2-3 zone and forcing Brewster to slow down their tempo. Massanutten got a great first half out of point guard Bryan Harris, who nailed four threes. After leading 48-33 at halftime, Brewster began to pull away towards the middle of the second half, capped off by a thunderous dunk by TJ Warren with five minutes to go that seemed to have taken all the wind out of Massanutten’s sails. Xavier-commit Semaj Christon had 18 points and once again controlled the tempo of the game, TJ Warren showed off his deep offensive arsenal by scoring a game-high 22 points, and Jakarr Sampson dominated around the rim on his way to 20 points. Brewster shot 67% from the floor in this one.

I don't have a subscription, but I bet it's about Jakarr waiting until the spring the commit somewhere. Hopefully, he's still partial to St. John's.

EDIT: I didn't see the earlier responses.

Looking at some sites it appears there are a lot of good players signing but we do not seem to be in the mix and are getting passed by Opinions

I know lavin is going around and trying to re-commit Sampson after he verballed It feels like we are being used. It is like having a new relationship with a friend and then your friend thinks about it and says look am going to see if I can find a better friend If I can't maybe I'll be our friend again I know it is a business even if it is college but still does not feel right Amir is a solid character I can see persuing players hard but not after being slapped in the face I know my thinking is probably off based more on emotions

Its pretty clear our priorities are Sampson and Gathers for 2012. Backup option is Obekpa. All have said they would sign in the spring. We haven't seen new names because those are the 3 staff is focusing on. Might someone else pop up sure but I think we need to accept those are the names that most make sense right now.

So we are kind of putting all our eggs in 3 baskets Guess the staff must be pretty confident we aregoing to get maybe 2 of those players

Pretty much, Moose. It seems the staff is focusing on Sampson and Gathers, with Obekpa running just right behind those two. A commitment from the first two or 2 of 3 from the above-mentioned will surely suffice.

So, no need for anyone to start sweating bullets at this moment.

We aren't getting passed by at all. We just signed a handful of top 60 players in 2011 and have a long way to go in 2012. We don't cast a tremendously wide net for players which is fine. We'll win plenty of these battles as we have been. People are IMO getting overly nervous due to the fact that we had a few misfires without disqualified kids. If we get even one of Gathers/ Sampson back on board, ats already 1 top 35 and another top 100 kid for 2012 with the winter and spring left to go. We have one of the best recruiters in the country recruiting for our team. A verdict on the 2012 class will have to wait until after spring signing, and although it might make some here uncomfortable, that's the way some classes are for just about every school. Some years certainly a bigger haul than others. Fwiw, I've hear we lead for one or two excellent 2013 players. We will be landing top talent for a long time here at SJU. Just enjoy this rebuild. We won't have as much recruiting drama in coming years trying to fill a huge class and recovering from several kids becoming ineligible due to the large class.

MJ, right now I'm thinking Self and Kansas are the biggest threat, if only because they whiffed on Kaleb so bad and need a big pull for 2012. I still believe that SJ"s is the best fit for Rico and JaKarr, but it's their bball lives. The staff is so solid, and is hungry beyond any of the comfortable schools. If the guys want the chance to be immortalized in bball history one day, this is the destination.

Well said

Former St. John's signee Jakarr Sampson, a 2012 SF from Brewster (NH), is taking an unofficial visit to Pitt today, per his coach.

I knew there was a reason to read all those Bobre posts. Given the speed and talent of who we have and with Amir, we sure could use a Sean Evans type to play hard and bang bodies to protect our higher skill players.

I had to comment here, that GG is the new Sean Evans. Dominates weak, smaller competition, and scares the crap out of me every time he touches the ball and tries to make a move. Granted he shoots way better from the line and has a softer touch around the rim. Not big on GG right now, I think Pointer needs to see more of his minutes.
